Musicians on the March Disney is this year’s theme for the Massapequa High School marching band, which will perform its show during halftime of all home football games and at the Newsday Marching Band Festival in October. A voluntary camp was held at the high school from August 14th-16th, and a majority of the marching band’s 152 members attended. Band directors Eva Marie Arnold and Andrew Dwork led the

camp along with fellow Massapequa band teachers Rob Giannotti, Gary Loock, Mike Perticone and Jessica Wyman. Andrea Gropf coordinated the flag line. Senior Julian Alberto is the drum major and Sarah Benedict is assistant drum major. On the football field, band members practiced marching technique, while in the auditorium and little theater they rehearsed music for this year’s show. It will highlight Disney

Pixar favorites, including The Incredibles. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), approximately three out of four new heroin users report having abused prescription opioids prior to using heroin. Residents can also Take Action and SAVE THE DATE for MTAC’s next prescription drug take back day on Saturday, October 27th at Massapequa High School from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event is part of the National Take Back Initiative which encourages parents and residents to clean out their medicine cabinets and turn in - safely and anonymously prescription drugs and over the counter drugs.

The Museum of American Armor at Old Bethpage Village Restoration will award a total of $10,000 in scholarships to Girl Scouts from throughout Nassau County who are selected as winners in the museum’s Heritage Essay program. Awardees will be announced at the museum on Veterans Day, 2018. The announcement will be made during ceremonies at the armor museum, 1303 Round Swamp Road, Old Bethpage, on Sunday, September 2nd, at 11:30 a.m. Girl Scouts will be challenged to write essays about the veterans in their own families, or those they have met, as part of the museum’s ongoing educational efforts designed to create a better appreciation of the sacrifices asked of those who have served our nation. The program will award the first prize winner a $5,000 scholarship, the second place essay a $3,000 award, and the third place

essayist will receive $2,000. Honorable mentions will receive $250. Museum president and founder, Lawrence Kadish, stated, “This program began in 2016 and the response was overwhelming. As we approach the 75th anniversary of D-Day it is only fitting that we continue this scholarship awards program with the intention of sustaining it as it serves to personally connect generations of Americans with their nation’s history and that of their families. In an era when the time allocated to history studies in the classroom is being reduced, this expanded scholarship program couldn’t have come at a more important time.” An education center Michael Sapraicone, museum board member and president of Squad Security, stated, “This scholarship reflects the personal commitment of Lawrence and Susan

Kadish who recognize that young people need to pause and reflect on the legacy of those Americans who have served in the armed forces. By funding this program they are ensuring that thousands of young people will understand the courage and valor that is required to defend our freedoms. Equity First Foundation

Equity First Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit organization located here on Long Island. Rhonda Klch started this foundation with the mission to offer services, resources and programs to consumers and small businesses that are facing financial distress. Although the details of financial markets may not be necessary for everyone, a good understanding of everyday finances is needed to ensure your home, bank account and additional assets are protected as you go about your life. This nonprofit is guided by a board of experts from the Long Island business community. They strive to educate the community so people can make financial decisions with knowledge and confidence. The mantra of this foundation is “Learn today to choose wisely tomorrow!” This organization holds hands-on workshops, where participants will be given course material, handouts and goals to accomplish. Some people they help through these workshops are those in women’s shelters, homeless shelters, veteran homes, at-risk communities, drug rehabilitation centers, senior centers and more.

As a way to benefit and honor certain individuals, this nonprofit holds many events throughout the year. Some of these events include their Dancing for a Cure event, which raises awareness and research for individuals who have or have had cancer; their Holiday Dream Mission, which assists families in financial distress during the holiday season; their Military Saves Week, which is geared toward assisting military members financially; and their Angel Awards, which honors women of Long Island who have created an impact in the areas of community, volunteer, philanthropy and business development! Equity First Foundation is available to provide educational presentations on an array of topics such as the importance of credit awareness, budgeting and mortgage modification. Businesses, civic groups, community centers and other groups can host seminars or workshops for their employees, members, the communityat-large, etc. If you are interested in scheduling a program, the opportunity is available! Looking to volunteer? Equity First Foundation is in need of volunteers to coordinate events and tradeshows, assist with office work, organize fundraisers and, lastly, to help with grant writing and research. Bluefish Tournament Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Tom Hand announce that registration is open for the 33rd annual Bluefish Tournament, scheduled for Sunday, September 16th. “This all-day sporting event features hours of fun fishing followed by a tailgate party with refreshments, raffles and awards,” Supervisor Saladino said. “The event is open to anglers of all ages but space is limited, so sign up quickly.” The tournament runs from 4:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is limited to the first 350 boats with entry fees discounted for Town residents. Costs to enter are $35 for residents and $45 for non-Town

residents. Councilman Hand added, “This event always proves to be a great time for participants. Anyone who registers prior to September 10th will receive a tournament T-shirt and be automatically entered in a special raffle. Residents can pick up registration forms at all Town facilities.” Raffle prizes include Solstice inflatable boats and Mercury outboards, rods, reels, ice chests, restaurant certificates and more. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino announces Car Show Long Island’s Fall Classic, a new premiere experience, kicking off on Sunday, September 23rd from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at TOBAY Beach. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino today announced that registration for the Town’s 2018 Fall Youth Ice Hockey Program will take place on Sunday, September 9th (8 a.m. to 12 p.m.), Monday, September 10th (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.), Thursday, September 13th (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.), Sunday, September 16th (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.), Monday, September 17th (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.), and Thursday, September 20th (6 p.m. to 9p.m.) at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center, located at 1001 Stewart Avenue in Bethpage. “The Town of Oyster Bay’s Youth Ice Hockey Program is one of the best games in town, and features many respected coaches dedicated to teaching this outstanding sport to the many boys and girls enrolled in the program,” said Supervisor

Saladino. “As a hockey enthusiast myself, I am proud to announce that the children who attend the program get the unique opportunity to hone their skating and hockey skills as part of a program that has earned recognition by the National Hockey League for its high level of quality.” Individuals interested in registering for the 2018 Fall Youth Ice Hockey Program must bring a copy of their birth certificate, proof of Town of Oyster Bay residency (tax or utility bill) as well as payment. Check, money order, MasterCard or Visa will be accepted. All registrants must bring these items, even if they have participated in the past. A parent or legal guardian must be present at registration. The program is held on Sunday mornings, and Monday, Tuesday,
