Labriola Announces Co-Ed Fitness Classes for Spring 2021 Oyster Bay Town Councilman Steve Labriola recently announced that residents who are interested in maintaining or improving their levels of fitness as spring arrives will be able to register for the Town’s popular Co-Ed Fitness Classes. Classes are offered to individuals 18 years of age or older. “The Town is pleased to once again be offering these excellent fitness programs,

which provide a terrific outlet for our residents to exercise and stay in shape,” said Councilman Labriola. “The Town’s Parks Department has done an amazing job offering residents the opportunity to take advantage of these classes and stay physically active, all with proper health protocols and public health guidelines in place, creating a safe environment for physical fitness and

potentially forging new friendships!” This spring, residents will have the choice between the following classes which run for 10 weeks:

THE COZY CONE OF SILENCE By Dr. Cynthia Paulis Mayoral candidate for MPK

A curious thing happened at the last village hall meeting. When entering the building there was a police officer from the 7th precinct standing guard. “Are you expecting trouble tonight?” I inquired. “I was just told I needed to be here tonight”, he replied. Last time police were present at a meeting was in January 2020 when the hall was packed with angry residents holding up the anonymous flyer that Pearls camp spread through the village that Spinosa was going to “anoint herself as Mayor”

Even more curious were two people, one from the Town of Oyster Bay who was involved with Pearl’s campaign, especially election night and Spinosa’s husband who hasn’t been at the village hall since election night last September. There was one other person, a woman who admitted she lived in Massapequa and just recently moved into the Park and never came to the meetings but was upset about some articles she was reading and wanted to defend her friend and her character. Admirable but if she really read the articles she would see it’s not about character but about showing up for the job your were elected to do. She pulls out her cell phone and reads a very long speech no doubt written by someone else, about the individual and in it tries to justify why trustees are entitled to health care for life for a part time position. She even broke down in percentages that even though they miss meetings it’s only a small percentage. Really? As I looked up at the plexiglass encased trustees , there between the Garden City lawyer, a fixture for 20 years and our newly appointed trustee Wiss (who is the deputy comptroller of the town of Oyster Bay) was an empty chair. Our newly elected trustee Dana Durso was ABSENT. Where was she? A PTA meeting or perhaps spring break. Ironically that was the same seat Pearl sat in as trustee and was ABSENT from meetings 23 times including his own swearing in when he first ran for office. Perhaps there is a Bermuda triangle or a malfunctioning

Why was the health care never made public until Pearl wanted to run for office as Mayor? He is currently running with Schiaffino who receives the benefits and Wiss, who he introduced as someone who worked with the Lions and Kiwanas club never mentioning she worked with him at the TOB. Even more upsetting is to see Scott Wiss her husband a lawyer and former MPK trustee who was arrested and charged “in one of the largest insurance fraud rings ever uncovered in New York” (Massaspequa Post December 26, 2001) Then newly elected Mayor Altadonna, who ran as a solo candidate and won, took the situation under advisement from village attorney Kevin Wash who currently sits on our the board. Massapequa Post November 6, 2002 headline “MPK village official pleads guilty to insurance fraud.” At a board meeting Altadonna asked for Wiss to step down from the zoning board. “We all have to accept responsibility for what we do and I believe he should resign.” Fast forward October 29,2020 Massapequa Post written by same writer covers the swearing in of “ Christine Wiss, a longtime Massapequa Park Village resident and wife of former Massapequa Park Village trustee Scott Wiss was sworn in as the village’s newest trustee.” Why was there no mention by the same reporter who knew the background and FAILED to report it to the community? Holding the bible was Scott Wiss ,whose law license was pulled in several states for a while as punishment for his crime, smiling at the attorney Kevin Walsh who was swearing his wife into office. They all knew and they all remained silent. Optics. Why was this kept silent by the newspaper, the lawyer and most of all Pearl? You get the government you vote for so if this is what you want then vote for it. Do you want someone who qualifies for the Pinocchio award? Or you can VOTE SMART and hire Dr CYNTHIA PAULIS as your next mayor, someone who will tell the truth, a straight shooter, a proud veteran who served her country, paid for her own health care, has a business and medical background, ran her own company and managed a busy trauma center and wants to fix the problems in the community. If you ever attend these meetings at 8 pm it’s the usual group of 3 to 5 men, the board, and an occasional homeowner with an issue. The meeting lasts usually 15 minutes unless there is a hot button issue. So why were we wasting the resources of a police officer who could be patrolling the village, catching some of the people who have been breaking into our cars lately which has been happening all over? (Note to homeowners LOCK YOUR CARS and homes, break ins are on the rise.) Better still they can be ticketing speeders and people blowing through stop signs endangering the safety of our community, an issue that has been addressed at the last few meetings with no resolution. Yet here he was standing in an empty hallway.

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino invites residents to be “Freezin’ for a Reason” at a polar plunge benefitting the Special Olympics New York on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at TOBAY Beach. The event, which will include an extensive list of new COVID-19 safety protocols, will feature pre-assigned time slots beginning at 9:30 a.m. “Many of our residents are used to seeing beautiful TOBAY Beach in the middle of the summer, but this event provides an enjoyable and charitable reason to begin the beach season early,” said Supervisor Joseph Saladino. “Participants will have an opportunity to prove their mettle and their compassion by wading into the chilly waters of TOBAY Beach to raise funds for the athletes of Special Olympics New York.” The safety of participants is of the highest priority for both Special Olympics and the Town of Oyster Bay. This year’s plunge will include comprehensive safety measures that will comply with federal and state guidelines. Instead of large groups, each team will have a personalized polar plunge experience in a controlled safe environment. All spectators and volunteers will be required to wear masks and plungers will wear masks until plunge time. Signage and announcements will also serve as a reminder to maintain social distance and adhere to all safety protocols. All funds raised at the event support Special Olympics New York’s programs and promote awareness of people living with intellectual

disabilities in New York. Proceeds will help to provide year-round sports training and competition in over 22 Olympic-style sports for more than 66,835 children and adults with intellectual disabilities living in New York, giving them continuing opportunities at no cost to them or their families. “This polar plunge is sure to create lasting memories for all participants and support a very worthwhile cause,” added Supervisor Saladino. “Special Olympics New York changes lives through the joy of sports and the Town of Oyster Bay is proud to partner with this outstanding organization to help make this event a success. Pressing Flowers Flowers can have sentimental value, particularly those received as gifts or those that were part of momentous occasions, like weddings. Dry the flowers out as quickly as possible to prevent browning. Place the flower between two pieces of white, nontextured paper. Then place all

T h e Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the organization’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. Sometimes a wish fulfills an immediate need, and sometimes it is a last wish or lifetime dream. Large or small, all wishes provide a meaningful “thank you” to the senior for a lifetime of service to others. Every wish they grant helps build a culture that values and respects our senior population. The Twilight Wish Foundation has expanded throughout America and they currently have 17 chapters. The majority of their chapter directors and chapter volunteers have fulltime jobs, but volunteer their time because they believe so much in the impact Twilight Wish has on our senior population. Many seniors experience social isolation, which can lead to undesirable conditions. Granting a Twilight Wish can help change that! You can qualify for a Twilight Wish if you are at least 65 years old, are a legal U.S. citizen, demonstrate financial need, provide a history of giving back to others and possess the cognitive,

emotional and physical ability to experience the wish. Twilight Wish recipients report that having their wish granted impacted their life for the better. Their mental and physical health often improved, positively changing their outlook on life! The wishes that this organization grants truly changes the way that our society views aging, as it witnesses seniors living life to the fullest. By sharing their recipients’ stories, they inspire both older and younger generations and help bring about a cultural shift in how aging is perceived in our society. To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,700 wishes throughout our country and multiple wishes have being granted on Long Island recently! These wishes have ranged from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck. This organization has continued to do their good work throughout this pandemic. Today they are still helping others and when going to grant a wish, they are taking all the necessary safety precautions. Safety is a top prioity at The Twilight Wish Foundation. By Dr Cynthia Paulis Congratulations to Massapequa High School Seniors Juliana Lovett and Christopher Flaherty who are the winners of this years 500 for 500 competition. The contest started 5 years ago by Dr Cynthia Paulis MHS graduate ’71 and proud veteran herself was designed to have the students write an essay in under 500 words around a particular patriotic theme and each winner from the senior class a boy and girl will receive a check for $500. The theme this year was, “Why are veterans important to this country” “The entries this year were extraordinary and it was difficult choosing but Juliana’s and Chris’s essay really epitomized the sacrifices veterans make for not only this country but around the world. Paulis commented Juliana’s dad was a marine who was overseas through much of her childhood so she understood what it was like having a parent missing milestone events. As she read her poignant essay at the Massapequa American Legion Hall 1066 to family, friends, and veterans, her dad later commented that he cried when he read her essay for the first time. Her opening paragraph started, “The year 2008 showed me firsthand why veterans are important to this country.
