Night Fishing Parking Permits Now Available to Non-Residents

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board today announced that the Parks Department will begin to offer a night fishing parking permit to nonresidents, effective January 1, 2020. In order to obtain the permit, a non-resident must be sponsored by a current Town resident who has already obtained a night fishing permit. Supervisor Saladino stated, “As the popularity of night fishing on Long Island has continued to flourish, the Town’s will begin to offer a new, nonresident night fishing parking permit. This parking pass, which must be displayed on dashboards while parking in Town lots where night fishing is SANTA VISITS FUMC NURSERY SCHOOL - Farmingdale United Methodist permitted, will allow nonNursery School tots enjoyed their annual visit from Santa. They wish everyone a residents to night fish at Merry Christmas! four different locations
in the Town of Oyster Bay throughout the year.” Non-residents will be able to obtain a night fishing parking pass by submitting a $50 fee and being sponsored by a current Town resident who has obtained a night fishing permit. Each resident with a current night fishing permit will be able to sponsor one non-resident, and will be held responsible for the non-resident’s decorum while using Town facilities. Permits are available through the Town’s Parks Department, located at 977 Hicksville Road in Massapequa. Night fishing hours are 7pm to 7am at select facilities. Night fishing is permitted at the following locations throughout the Town, during the following dates:
• January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020 • Harry Tappen Beach in Glenwood Landing • Theodore Roosevelt Beach in Oyster Bay • Centre Island Beach in Bayville • April 2020 through December 2020 • TOBAY Beach Night fishing parking permit does not substitute any additional requirements of New York State in regards to night fishing. Tech Smart: Cyber Security For All Ages MARINE IS ON A MISSION - The Marines live by the motto of never leaving anyone behind. For some that includes a dog they have rescued during deployment, and have bonded with. The loyalty from Captain Dave and his unit and the dog that they rescued goes both ways, and now his wish is to bring her back home to the United States with him when he returns soon. Guardians of Rescue have helped other military members pull off this same mission, and they are seeking public donations to help pull it off again. Along with paying fees to allow the dog to leave, there is medical care, airfare, and other relocation expenses involved. Nassau County Executive Laura Curran is deploying the County’s brightest IT experts to locations across the county to offer free trainings for residents on how to combat cyber threats. This training is designed for all ages and is focused just on cyber threats and
scamming - phishing, identity theft, viruses, ransomware, malware and social engineering. Participants will learn how to protect themselves using the same methods that are employed by the Nassau County IT department. Tech Smart: Cyber

While flowers certainly add beauty and a wonderful aroma to wedding ceremonies and receptions, there are other reasons behind their inclusion in such festivities. In ancient Rome, brides carried or wore flower garlands because the Romans believed flowers signified hope, fertility and new beginnings. In the Middle Ages, brides did not carry flowers, but rather strong-smelling spices and herbs. The rationale was that the herbs and spices would drive away bad luck and evil spirits. Flowers also served another practical purpose. In eras when bathing was a luxury, different flowers and herbs helped mask body odors. It wasn't until the Victorian era, when flowers were used to symbolize romantic love, that they became part of wedding ceremonies, according to Modern Weddings magazine.

In December 2015, Karam Chand, 110, and his wife, Kartari Chand, 103, from Bradford, West Yorkshire (originally from India), celebrated their 90th wedding anniversary, becoming the world’s longest-betrothed couple. In America, John and Ann Betar, ages 104 and 100, respectively, have been married 83 years as of 2016. The couple eloped in 1932. They have been named one of America’s longest-married couples by the Worldwide Marriage Encounter.

As we wrap up 2019 and head into 2020 I would like to thank all of the non-profits that I have worked with this year. It has been a pleasure for me to learn more about each one of your organizations and help spread the word about the difference you make in our communities.
According to the home improvement resource HomeAdvisor, adding square footage to a home can cost homeowners anywhere from $7,000 to $100,000. When adding square footage to a home, homeowners may need to knock down an interior wall or walls, the cost of which can vary widely depending on the walls being knocked down. Loadbearing walls are needed to support the home, and while such walls can be removed, homeowners may need to hire structural engineers at additional cost to orchestrate such removals. In addition, homeowners can expect to pay more when knocking down walls that contain ducts or electrical wiring. It also can be costly for homeowners whose homes are old to knock down walls. HomeAdvisor notes that the wall-removal process in old homes that contain lead paint or lathand-plaster walls is more intricate and may cost homeowners more money.
