Each child picked and decorated a pumpkin, and put their hands inside of the orange gourd to feel its different parts. Town of Oyster Bay residents who are looking for a pre-school program for their children are invited to attend an open house at one of the Town’s two pre-schools, located in Woodbury at the Syosset-Woodbury Community Center and in Massapequa at Marjorie R. Post Community Park, Town Councilwoman Rebecca Alesia announced. Parents are welcome to see the facilities and get more information on this popular program. “As a young mother, I know full well that the early years of a child’s life are incredibly important in shaping them for the years that lie ahead,” Councilwoman Alesia said. “The Town’s PreSchool Program prides itself on providing a positive and fun environment within which each student can
begin to love learning. Our teachers place great emphasis on developing a positive educational experience for all children, helping to make learning both exciting and interesting.” To help parents get an idea as to what the Town of Oyster Bay Pre-School Program has to offer, the Town will host an open house at the pre-school located in the SyossetWoodbury Community Center on Wednesday, November 5th, from 6 to 9 p.m. The open house at the Massapequa preschool, located in Marjorie R. The perfect dress. Is there even such a thing? Perhaps. It’s just that, when pressed for time, the search becomes seemingly more futile by the day. Store after store, scanning the racks for something – anything – that stands out and screams you... I suppose I’m atypical in the sense that I’m part of a rare breed of girl that doesn’t enjoy shopping; that is, not when I need something specific, anyway. Send me on a random shopping spree with all the time in the world, and I have no problem dropping several hundred dollars in a matter of hours. But give me an occasion, a short window of time to find something appropriate and,
can motivate myself to venture out. Couple that with my deep aversion to being forced to navigate an entire mall, that endless, sprawling layout of department stores and dress shops, and my options become increasingly limited. More often than not, I find myself on the complete opposite side from where I need to be, standing in front of one of the gigantic maps, vainly trying to ascertain the quickest route to my destination. Once in the store, there’s the matter of locating which floor the department you’re seeking is on, which, oddly enough, some employees don’t even seem to have a handle on. So
each level, I can then get down to the purpose of my mission – actually pinpointing something I like, finding it in my size and then, assuming steps 1 & 2 go as planned, crossing my fingers that said “perfect” dress is somewhat affordable. Sound simple? Let’s just say my last dress shopping mission, which I began precisely two weeks before the date I needed it, has so far encompassed two different malls, several department stores and random dress shops and resulted in my purchasing two different selections, neither of which I am completely sold on. Massapequa High School’s Family and Consumer Sciences Department, in conjunction with its Child Study course, will once again sponsor a Preschool Program for district residents. High School students enrolled in the Child Study course have successfully completed the Parenting and Child Development course and are now ready for a hands-on approach to learning. The students will plan, prepare, and implement interdisciplinary activities within a thematic unit for the preschool students. Preschool will begin around March 12th, 2015 and continue for approximately 11 weeks, to “graduation.” There are two sessions – Tuesdays and Thursdays or Wednesdays and Fridays, each from 9:55 a.m. to 12 p.m. Children must attend
both days of the session chosen. A donation of $60 per child to help defray expenses is encouraged. the General Office of Massapequa High School from November 1st to December 22nd, and can be picked up between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Applications may also be downloaded from the Massapequa School District website using the links and directions above. Copies of completed applications must be returned to the General Office at Massapequa High School by Monday, January 5th, 2015. Acceptance notifications will be mailed by January 26th, 2015. The program will assist those in the armed services with making special arrangements for displaced couples while a service man or woman is overseas in places like Afghanistan. The event provided wedding ceremonies and vow renewals to active US Military personnel. Approximately 1,200 seventh-grade students from 35 Catholic elementary schools in the Diocese of Rockville Centre participated in the Fifth Annual Technology Days at Adventureland in Farmingdale on Wednesday the 15th and
Friday the 24th of October. Technology Days combine work and play by giving each attendee a workbook with learning activities connected to 12 rides. These activities direct students to study the rides and observe engineering design principles such
as structure, safety, and accessibility. Participating students make notes on their observations and use problem-solving skills to complete workbook activities associated with each ride.

students learned what it means to be part of a team and how to offer support to one another to help stop bullying. Franklin’s message was clear: If you see bullying follow the simple ABC’s – Action, Bravery and Compassion. “Our students can use these rules on a daily
basis,” said Principal Dr. Amanda Lowry. “We will begin to incorporate these ABC’s into our S.T.A.R. (Show respect, Treat others with kindness, Are always safe, and Reach for the stars) Students of the Month program.”
