The Cemetery of Lost Souls is a grass roots organization that gears up each year to create an elaborate Haunted House on the founder’s property, located at 350 Broadway in Massapequa Park. E v e r y bit of money raised through their annual event (admission, donations, sponsorships, etc.) is given to a chosen charity. They have raised a lot of money over the years in donations alone and have donated to charities such as Autism Speaks, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Long Island Cares. This year they will bring the community a new interactive experience with the second Lost Souls Walk-Thru haunt, new rooms, new scares and new thrills! The remaining events will run on October 25-26, 31 and November 1-2 from 7PM-11:30PM. The chosen charity for 2019 is Melissa’s Wish, a non-profit organization founded with the purpose of providing short term, non-medical financial aid in the form of a grant to caregivers who are assisting those afflicted with a serious illness, injury or end of life event. This homegrown haunt has been up and running for a few weeks so far this year and visitors have only good things to say! Below are some recent reviews:

Town Unveils New Dog-Friendly Neighborhood Parks Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Steve Labriola today unveiled a dozen neighborhood parks in communities throughout the Town where residents are now permitted to bring leashed pets. This new initiative builds on recent efforts to enhance dog-lover’s access to Town facilities, including upgrades to the Town’s existing Dog Park on the south shore and a commitment for a new north shore facility, for which construction is

underway. “Our pets are like family, and residents have been requesting that we give consideration to allowing them to enjoy our facilities with their dogs,” said Supervisor Saladino. “We are pleased to be able to unveil these new dogfriendly locations for our residents and their furry friends!” “As a dog lover and owner of two, I understand how enjoyable it is to bring our pets on outings where they can enjoy the nice weather and get some

exercise,” said Councilman Labriola. “I’ve spoken with many residents who have expressed their desires to walk their dogs at local neighborhood parks, and I immediately began working with the Parks Department to make that dream a reality.” The Town Board recently voted to allow pets at neighborhood parks designated by the Town Parks Commissioner. Consideration was given to park utilization, location and usage. New signage has been placed at the

designated parks advising residents that leashed pets are welcome. Dogs are only permitted at those locations specified by the Parks Commissioner, with the exception of serve animals. Boarding The Energy Bus Third graders at Fairfield Elementary School in the Massapequa School District have recently been reading “The Energy Bus for Kids” to spark a growth mindset for the year. Teacher Danielle McCaffery said that the goal is to create classroom environment filled with

positive energy. The book by Jon Gordon has four messages — create a positive vision, fuel your ride with energy, no bullies allowed and love your passengers. It shows children how to overcome negativity and everyday challenges to be their best and share their positive

energy with others. Students completed a writing assignment for each message, such as setting personal goals for themselves, identifying the traits of a buddy and a bully, and describing ways they could show kindness to others.
