Event To Give A Boost To The Local Economy & Provide Residents And Visitors With Unique Experience Fall will be better than ever in Nassau County, with County Executive Laura Curran announcing that Old Bethpage Village Restoration (OBVR) will host the iconic Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze® for a second time, after a successful launch last year. The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze® Long Island will run for 36 selected nights through November 7. Tickets are now on sale at www.pumpkinblaze.org. “We’re thrilled to bring back this extraordinary experience for the second consecutive year and provide a safe and spooky way to celebrate the Halloween season right here in Nassau County,” said Nassau County Executive Laura Curran. “The County’s Old Bethpage Village provides a perfect backdrop for this spectacular event which is expected to attract thousands and give our local economy a boost. That location will be open 59 nights through November 21 and will feature new displays such as an immersive river walkthrough experience and a New York City streetscape.

Restoration is a living history museum owned and operated by Nassau County that provides guests the opportunity to step back in time to the island’s agrarian past. The Village consists of homes, barns and other buildings dating back to 1765. Costumed interpreters describe life as it was in the 19th century and historic trade smiths demonstrate various trades. Also on the grounds of Old Bethpage Village Restoration is a Co-Op Farm and farmers market, which brings organic and local food to Long Islanders and the Museum of American Armor which is home to armored vehicles dedicated to remembering our servicemen and women who have fought bravely for our country. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilwoman Michele Johnson invite residents to participate in the Fall Oyster Bay Harbor & Beach Cleanup, scheduled for Saturday, October 2nd at the Town’s north shore beaches. The event, held rain or shine, is cosponsored by the Town of Oyster Bay, the North Oyster Bay Baymen’s Association (NOBBA) and Friends of the Bay. Volunteers – including individuals, groups, families and friends – should meet at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park (off Larrabee Avenue in Oyster Bay) beginning at 8 a.m. “This great environmental cleanup initiative features volunteers and Town
employees rolling up their sleeves and working side-by-side to remove litter and debris from the beaches and shoreline areas along Oyster Bay Harbor,” Supervisor Saladino said. “We invite residents of all ages to pitch in and help make a difference in our community! This year’s event will also feature new fun for the family, as a new scavenger hunt will be featured for kids.” Volunteers are invited to participate in the cleanup, which will run from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The central meeting place will be Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park launching ramps and waterfront gazebo off of Larrabee Avenue, Oyster Bay. Code Enforcement Bureau from the Department of Planning of Development continually monitor vacant properties, issue Notices of Violation against neglected properties, and take action to cleanup properties. With help from the public, the Town can better identify every existing eyesore within communities. Once a property has been identified as abandoned or an eyesore, Code Enforcement Officers inspect the property to assess the property. The Town explores all possible avenues to spur the owner to rehabilitate the property. Once all options have been exhausted, the Town will
seek legal remedies to demolish eyesore in the community. “The objective of the Town’s Zombie Home Program is to ensure the Town of Oyster Bay continues to be a highly desirable community to live, work and raise a family,” added Supervisor Saladino said. “This new, online registry will help our Department of Planning and Development enhance their tracking of eyesores. Ultimately, if the property owner cannot keep it maintained, the goal of this initiative is to make way for new families and new homes after tearing down these zombie homes.” The Town’s Abandoned Property/Zombie Home Registry was established under a grant provided through the New York State Housing Stabilization Fund. This new Abandoned Property/Zombie Home Registry assists the Town of Oyster Bay in combatting eyesores in local communities. “Protecting our suburban quality of life is a top priority for the Town Board,” said Councilman Imbroto, who serves as Chairman of the Town’s Quality of Life Taskforce. “No community should be forced to deal with unmaintained and dangerous eyesores that serve as havens for squatters, rodents and other such problems. Saladino Announces Free Mega Job Fair Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and The Workforce Partnership today announced that a Mega Job Fair will take place on Tuesday, October 12th, at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center, located at 1001 Stewart Avenue in Bethpage. There is no charge for admission and parking is free. Veterans’ admission begins an hour earlier, at 9:00 a.m., while doors for General
Admission open at 10:00 a.m. The event runs until 2:00 p.m. Employers from across Long Island will be seeking candidates for positions including entry and middle management level, licensed professional, hospitality and food service industries, banking, staffing and individuals with technical and IT experience. Supervisor Saladino stated, “The Workforce Partnership and Town of
Oyster Bay are committed to helping residents find meaningful employment opportunities as well as assisting local businesses in recruiting qualified employees. This Mega Job Fair will connect private and public sector employers with job seekers, while also providing attendees with employability workshops onsite.” The Town of Oyster Bay serves as administrator of The Workforce
Partnership, a consortium of local governments funded by the Federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act that provides free valuable resources to both employers and job seekers at Career Centers in Hicksville and Massapequa. These centers help train employees to meet the needs of the private sector, connecting qualified job seekers with employers, and by assisting applicants in accessing job
opportunities. The Centers offer Resource Rooms, which are equipped with state-of-the-art computer workstations, complete with Microsoft software and internet access. Additionally, these Centers offer residents access to job listings, resource materials, photocopiers, fax machines and telephones. The Centers provide employability and computer workshops, as well as career counselors who will guide residents
through their job search. Computer workshops are taught on-site in modern computer labs. Residents can increase their marketability by updating or acquiring new computer skills at the Centers. Saladino And Town Board To Collect DVDs For U.S. Troops & Kids With Cancer Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board today announced a partnership with Massapequa-based “Big Hy for Heroes” in an effort to collect DVDs for those deployed and serving overseas in the United States Armed Forces as well as children’s movies for kids with cancer at local hospitals. Donations will be accepted through October 29th and then delivered to Chaplains, Commanding Officers, Sergeant Majors and Sergeants around the globe to distribute to troops and arrange movie nights
this holiday season.
