In total, these counties are home to over 131,000 hungry children, and many more hungry adults. Normal? Whatâ€™s that? Sleeping in your own bed? Being able to walk through your house without tripping over piles of sheetrock? Funny

how adverse conditions force us all to adjust our conception of what, exactly, is routine. What would have been unthinkable circumstances just a year ago has now become the â€œnorm,â€? that revolving, whirlwind of chaos where each day brings new issues, and the finish line continues to stretch just a bit farther into the horizon. I donâ€™t think anyone anticipated the intensity with which Superstorm Sandy would hit, nor the continuing repercussions it would entail. And now, just ahead of yet another dreaded hurricane season, we waitâ€Ś and worryâ€Ś some from the newly renovated confines of

our own homes, others from hotels and mobile trailers and temporary rentals, all anticipating that day when, somehow, we can move on and leave the madness and mayhem behind for good. Mother Nature is an uncontrollable force, and clearly, one to be reckoned with and taken seriously. The best we can do is to prepare as much as possible, cross our fingers and hope for the best. ... And appreciate whatever sense of â€œnormalcyâ€? we have, while we still have it. They say you never truly appreciate what you have until itâ€™s gone. Best to hold onto it for as long as you can. These are the days to remember.
