Town Announces American Spirit Home Decorating Contest For Independence Day Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilwoman Laura Maier invite residents to express their patriotism and the American Spirit in advance of Independence Day by decorating their homes in red, white and blue with lights, flags or other decorations through July 15th. “This contest unites
our communities through patriotism and love while supporting our local economy,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Buying decorations from small businesses is also an important way for us to show our support of small businesses while celebrating our American spirit.”
“As we continue to experience some trying times in our world, bringing back our patriotic spirit can help unite us as Americans,” said Councilwoman Maier. “We hope our residents will join us in decorating their homes as America celebrates its independence.” The Town will illuminate Town Hall in red, white

Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York (Little Flower) is a human services organization that has been around for 93 years. It transforms caring into action to deliver services, programs and direction to improve the lives of children and families in crisis and people with developmental disabilities across New York City and Long Island. Little Flower prides itself on adapting and innovating to address the unmet needs of those in its community by enhancing current programs and services or developing new ones. They have been able to do that by partnering with individuals, businesses and community partners through special events like their Annual Golf Outing! This year they will celebrate their 25th Annual Golf Outing on September 12, 2022 at Engineers Country Club in Roslyn. Guests in attendance will enjoy a day of golf, breakfast, BBQ lunch, a cocktail and networking hour, along with an inspiring program. Little Flower will honor the past and promise for the future with honoree Grace Lo Grande, former Little Flower Executive Director, and special guests, such as former foster youth, now Little Flower Board member, Bianca Buckridee. Grace served the organization for 19 years, seeing it through growth and transformation, witnessing firsthand the tremendous impact made by Little Flower’s essential staff on thousands of children, families and people with developmental or intellectual disabilities. Town To Host Empire State Ride Long Island To End Cancer
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board recently announced a partnership with Empire State Ride Long Island to host a charity ride to raise funds to end cancer. The ride, which will take place on Saturday, July 23, features 3 different course lengths for riders of all ages and ability. All course routes begin at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park, in Oyster Bay. “I am so proud that the Town of Oyster Bay will play host to such an amazing event. Empire State Ride Long Island is poised to make a tremendous difference in the lives of those touched by cancer, and it will be directly due to the actions of our amazing residents who sign up for this fundraising ride,” said Supervisor Saladino. “With two wheels, our residents can change the world. I look forward to seeing everyone on event day, and I encourage any one of any age or riding ability to sign up for the event, as three course routes will be featured.” The Empire State Ride Long Island is a perfect, family-friendly summer event that features a ride through beautiful beaches, woodlands, and the historic destinations in and around the Town of Oyster Bay, all while helping cancer patients gain access to the newest clinical trials.
This one-day bike ride event, held in partnership between the Town and Empire State Ride Long Island, will raise funds for clinical research and trials that will benefit cancer patients at Catholic Health on Long Island and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, the nation’s first cancer center in the United States dedicated exclusively to cancer research. “At Roswell Park, we believe that no one should have to choose between convenience and quality when facing a decision about where they or a loved one should seek care for cancer,” says Roswell Park President and CEO Candace S. Roslyn Harbor, to Port Washington, and then all the way to Teddy Roosevelt’s home at Sagamore Hill (for advanced cyclists). By participating in Empire State Ride Long Island, bicyclists will have an opportunity to make a real impact on cancer research and patient care through clinical trials at these locations. In 2021, over $100,000 was raised by nearly 250 riders. Registration is now open for this fundraising event with a $25 fee for each participant. Riders will commit to a fundraising minimum which is $200 for adults and $75 for riders under 18 for all routes. To kick start each rider’s efforts, their $25 registration fee will be credited to their fundraising page. On 9/11/2001 the world changed with the terrorist attacks. My first thoughts were how do these people go on without getting to say goodbye to their loved ones. Then it happened to our family the following year. Our youngest daughter, Michelle was killed in a car accident at age 16. What was supposed to be a movie night with 3 other friends, turned tragic. So much has happened in 20 long years. I will always ask, “Why my Michelle” especially on July 2nd every year. She was loved by everyone…her family, friends, classmates, teachers, co-workers & all & missed out on her whole life ahead. Where would her life be now? We will never know. She would have turned 37 this October. We pray that she continue to watch over our family especially her sister & brother & nieces & nephews. I always wish my grandchildren could have met their Aunt Michelle. She will always be in our hearts. We love you forever, Michelle.
