The organization’s dedicated team of administrators, direct support professionals and clinicians work together to provide a continuum of care. Services are provided in residences across Queens and Long Island that feel like home. The majority of individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities served by Little Flower participate in their Family Care program. Family Care providers provide an extended, supportive family to individuals who cannot live independently in the community by welcoming them into their homes and families. They support them as they become productive and active members of their community. All Family Care providers are certiﬁed by New York State and are supervised and monitored by Little Flower.

Little Flower also provides an on-site residential program, Individual Residential Alternatives (IRA), which consists of smallgroup residences that provide residents with more opportunities for greater independence. On any given day, direct support professionals help empower IRA residents by supporting them as they overcome challenges to reach their best potential. While supporting their basic health and well-being, they assist the residents with rehabilitation, guide them in recreational and group activities such as fishing trips or vacations, and support them in their day-to-day goals and as active members of their community. Little Flower continues to discover extraordinary abilities within their residents, and while those individuals may face a more challenging future than most, the organization is confident that they can still enjoy a full and active life. They truly feel that what they need most is encouragement, understanding and the willingness of others to help them maximize their opportunities for becoming part of the community. “The students have worked incredibly hard this year on preparing the Ames Little Free Library for the Massapequa community,” Ms. Wegener said. “They have all truly enjoyed working on this multidisciplinary, hands-on project.” Ms. DePalma noted that every book was labeled with a CCC Little Free Library logo, to see how far the books travel. Anyone can take a book from the library, but community members are also encouraged to leave books that they have finished reading and want to share with someone else. CCC students held a collection drive for new and gently used books, for readers of all ages, to initially stock the library. McKenna Biographers Tell The Whole Story

The classic country music of the 1920s through the 1950s—the music of Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers, the Carter Family, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and more—will be coming to the Massapequa Public Library on Saturday, July 2, at 2 p.m. Tennessee Walt’s The Other Great American Songbook is a oneman concert featuring two dozen songs from country’s greatest songwriters, the likes of Kris Kristofferson, Ernest Tubb, Loretta Lynn and Hank Williams, arranged for voice and piano. It’s also an intriguing, factfilled look into what has made country music (and its most prominent descendant, rock ‘n’ roll) popular throughout America and beyond. “Think of it as a cabaret show, except that, instead of voice-and-piano versions

of Tin Pan Alley songs from the 1920s through 1950s, these are Music Row songs of the same period,” said Gayden Wren, the musical-theater veteran who performs as Tennessee Walt. “From those two streets have come the lion’s share of America’s greatest songs. Both streets were originally dedicated to pop music, music made for a buck, but in the past 20 or 30 years we’ve come to realize the classical aspects of the songs of Jerome Kern, George Gershwin and Rodgers & Hart. I think it’s time we recognized that there’s that same classical essence in the greatest country songs. “This isn’t what people may think of when they hear the words `country music,’” Wren said. “It’s voice and piano, not fiddles and steel guitars, and I won’t be yodeling.

And this isn’t the country of Toby Keith or Carrie Underwood—it’s the older, purer country music that inspired them and everybody from Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley to Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan and Ringo Starr.
