Readers have been writing in lately, inquiring as to my whereabouts, my wellbeing, my latest exploits… So I’m here, as requested, to fill you all in on my comings and goings – well, as much as one can come and go in the confines of a one-gallon aquarium, but you know… The latest bit of exciting news – potentially, anyway – is my Human’s impending purchase of a friend for me! Yes, that’s right, Buddy the Betta will soon be accompanied by the likes of a small, colorful (but not too colorful), aquatic snail. I’m thinking purple, to

complement my gorgeous aqua fins. The best part is that, in addition to having a companion for those ohso-long days when my Human leaves me to my own devices, my new little friend can also serve as a portable vacuum cleaner of sorts. With my larger residence, the maintenance can be a bit much, and I do like immaculate living quarters. I’ve even picked out a name – “Squeegee.” Oh what fun we will have together, so long as he keeps those long tentacles off my delicate fins, of course... and away from my food… and off of my favorite bedtime leaf… and, well, we’ll see how it

goes. This could be shortlived. Other than that, life in the bowl is pretty much status quo. I’m going on 15 months old, still as vibrant and beautiful (and humble) as ever, and my Human has graduated to feeding me twice a day – small portions, but still, I’ll take what I can get. It’s a good life – especially when Grammy comes to visit and makes kissy-faces at me. ‘Til next time, this is Buddy, anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new googly-eyed roommate. Beantown Visit

Recently, Wantagh’s Troop 96 ventured off to Boston and camped at Camp Sayre, also know as New England Base Camp. They started off with a visit to the Boston Museum of Science. While there, they saw an IMAX movie called National

Parks Adventure and saw the various exhibits in the museum. Those exhibits included the Hall of Human Life, The Theater of Electricity, Frogs: A Chorus of Colors and many others. The next day, they hit the Freedom Trail.

They hiked from Boston Commons all the way to the USS Constitution “Old Ironsides.” Along the way, they saw various burial grounds, the site of the Boston Massacre, Faneuil Hall, Paul Revere’s House, The Old North Church and the Bunker Hill Monument. While on Bunker Hill, there was a man dressed in period attire that explained what happened on Bunker Hill. He even shot off a gun to show them how the gun worked. The boys all enjoyed lunch at Quincy Market. It was a fantastic, fun and educational trip.

Officer, Brian served with distinction during his career as an officer with the New York City Police Department and made over 150 arrests. He quickly earned the respect of fellow police officers with his tireless dedication to his profession and his inherent ability to root out crime and perform his duties at the highest level. His NYPD colleagues knew he was a natural. “To those who had the pleasure to know Brian, it was no surprise that he was able to leave such an indelible mark, both socially and professionally,” Supervisor Venditto said. “He had a unique ability to connect with people and felt a tremendous sense of duty as a police officer to stand up for those in need.” Plainedge School District Superintendent Edward A. Salina, Jr., Ed.D said he was honored

that his District’s athletic center will be named in Detective Moore’s honor. “Brian will always be one of Plainedge’s own and we can think of nothing more fitting than to have the district’s athletic center forever bear his name,” Dr. Salina said. “He played ball and attended school on the very grounds where this building is situated. The entire Plainedge community has been personally touched by Detective Moore and what he represented. This building will stand as a permanent testament to his legacy of dedicated service.” Detective Moore paid the ultimate price serving and protecting others. More than 30,000 police officers from around the country came to Plainedge to attend services and pay their respects to the fallen officer. “This memorial statue and building dedication, in the community where he grew up and lived,

will stand as a permanent tribute to a young man who touched the lives of many,” Supervisor Venditto said. “It will also serve to honor the memories of those who made the ultimate sacrifice while defending this nation and protecting its citizenry.” Parking around Plainedge Park will be limited on the date of the ceremony, so shuttle buses will be continuously operated to and from Plainedge High School, located at 241 Wyngate Dr, North Massapequa, beginning at 11:00 a.m. All attendees are welcome to park at the high school and take the convenient shuttle to Plainedge Park. Brian cared about the people he served and his community. “This ceremony is the community’s way of showing how much was cared about him,” Supervisor Venditto said. “Brian will forever be a true American hero.”

(Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Camp over school spring break, ushering in a new era of scouting at its recently opened S.T.E.M. Center in Massapequa that kept scouts’ minds productive, engaged and active while school was out on spring recess. “On the national level, the S.T.E.M. program has become a priority of the Boy Scouts,” says Boy Scouts of America Theodore Roosevelt Council S.T.E.M. Center & Workshop Director Dakota Oher. “As a result,

at the local Council level, we’ve fully embraced the program and are already seeing exceptional results and advancement opportunities, community relations and career development.” “During spring break it is important for youth to keep their minds active and engaged,” adds Theodore Roosevelt Council Executive Jay Garee. “Our S.T.E.M. Camp programs and activities offer scouts a fun and unique way to interact with one another while learning important fundamentals about science, technology, engineering and math in everyday applications during spring recess.” As part of the camp’s S.T.E.M. related programs and activities, the scouts

built their own interactive robots before bringing them to life, giving their robots the ability to pick up and launch balls, trail paths and follow instructions.
