Town Collects and Delivers Over 2,000lbs of Food & Supplies to LI Cares for Pets of Disadvantaged Families

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Saladino, Town Councilman Lou Imbroto and Town Clerk Rich LaMarca proudly partnered with Long Island Cares for their 10th Annual Legislative Pet Food Drive, which took place over the last few weeks. The drive

focused on collecting food for our residents’ pets through Baxter’s Pet Pantry, which supplies free pet food and supplies to pet-owning families in need in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Supervisor Saladino and Town officials were honored for

collecting over 2,000lbs of pet food and supplies from charitable residents, which will in turn keep pets at home with their loved ones, well-fed, and out of shelters. For more information about Long Island Cares call (631)582-3663.

Linked By Uniqueness To mark Autism Awareness Month in April, students at Birch Lane Elementary School in the Massapequa School District celebrated all of the attributes that make them unique and special.

Assistant Principal Joyce Larkin said that there were lessons during library classes in which students learned to celebrate each other’s differences and to embrace their own unique qualities. As a visual

reminder of this important lesson, all children contributed to rainbow chains, which were hung throughout the hallways. Each student added a link, writing one reason why he or she is unique.

Registration Open for GAP Summer Program Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino today announced that the Town’s Group Activities Program (GAP) will run a Summer Program from July 6th through August 13th at Marjorie Post Community Park in Massapequa and SyossetWoodbury Community Park. The summer day camp program will run daily from 10am to 3pm, and will be open to developmentally disabled children and young adults ages 5-21. “Our TOB GAP Summer Day Camp is one of the finest programs of its kind in the country and our activities specialists take great pride in fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere at the day camp,” Supervisor Saladino said. “The focus of the GAP program is group interaction, and as part of the summer camp, participants will be able to take part in such as activities as swimming, arts and crafts, sports, music, and playground time. I encourage residents to take this opportunity to register now and take advantage of this great program.” Group Activities Program (GAP) Summer Day Camp provides a unique socialrecreational experience for developmentally disabled town residents in a well-supervised setting over the course of sixweeks. The GAP Program is administered through the Handicapped Services Division of the Town’s Department of Community and Youth Services. The focus of the GAP program is group interaction. Their mission is founded in the spirit of St. Louis de Montfort, who had a commitment to the poor and the courage to do what no one else had the courage to do. They have accomplished much over the 40+ years they have been helping others with minimal ﬁnancial assistance from federal, state or county agencies. They depend on the generosity of private contributions, fundraising events and corporate donations. Hope House Ministries services people in both Nassau County and Suffolk County, offering services free of charge. Together, their staff and volunteers have created an empowering sense of family and community that are the change agents, helping young people grow in self-discipline, critical thinking, problem solving skills and personal responsibility. Hope House Ministries was founded by Fr. Francis Pizzarelli, SMM, LCSW-R, ACSW, DCSW. 41 years ago, Fr. Francis discovered hundreds of youth who were homeless, experiencing mental health issues and living with addictions and it wasn’t long before he realized that neither government nor faith communities were doing enough to meet the crisis of homelessness. He formed Hope House Ministries and it has grown into an amazing organization that has provided for the needs of over 500,000 individuals. Hope House Ministries offers

many programs, such as their Community House, Hope Academy, Montfort Therapeutic Residence, Pax Christi Hospitality Center, St. Maximillian Kolbe Outpatient Addictions Treatment Center, Wisdom House and much more. Healey Beach at Florence Avenue in Massapequa, Centre Island Beach, Stehli Beach in Bayville, and at Ransom Beach in Bayville. To purchase a beach parking sticker for your vehicle, residents must present their vehicle registration and bring the vehicle they plan to drive to the beach since parking stickers are placed on the vehicle at the time of purchase. Only residents may purchase beach parking stickers for Town of Oyster Bay beaches. Seasonal parking stickers are $60, which pay for themselves following three visits. Free beach parking is offered to Town of Oyster Bay senior citizens aged 60+, the disabled and those on social security disability. To protect your health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, senior citizens and the disabled will simply be asked to show their driver’s license and registration from behind the window when visiting the beach for the first time this season. A parking sticker will then be adhered to the vehicle to ensure continued free access upon future arrival through the established Express Lane. If seniors or those with disabilities

choose to visit the beach in another vehicle, they must simply present their Driver’s License or Beach ID Card from behind the window and will then receive a free day pass. Town of Oyster Bay volunteer firefighters, members of the Armed Forces, veterans and electric port vehicle owners qualify for beach parking passes at reduced rates. Beaches are staffed with lifeguards and parking attendants on weekends only beginning Saturday, May 29th, and then daily beginning June 25th through Labor Day. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board recently announced that seasonal beach parking sticker sales and the free distribution of stickers to senior citizens will begin on Saturday, May 8th. The Oyster Bay Town Board has restricted beach access to residents only and enhanced safety measures by installing signage and pedestrian barriers. Residents are reminded to be safe and cover their face when unable to maintain a social distance. Supervisor Saladino stated, “The summer season is nearly upon us, and many residents are eagerly looking forward to a sun-filled fun day at our beaches. By purchasing a beach sticker in advance, residents can avoid the inevitable lines that often accompany the start of the beach season and spend more time with their feet in the sand instead. We ask residents to follow the advice of health professionals and keep their family safe by socially distancing from others while at the beach and by utilizing face coverings if you’re unable to keep a safe distance from others.” Beach parking stickers will be on sale daily beginning May 8th, from 10am to 2pm, at TOBAY Beach, Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park and Beach in Oyster Bay, Tappen Beach

The Kiwanis Club of Levittown recently teamed with Massapequa-based “Big Hy for Heroes” to spearhead a drive to collect and distribute thousands of DVDs for US troops overseas and for children in local hospitals.

In just six weeks, and through mere word-ofmouth, we collected and distributed well over 15,000 DVDs – from movie mysteries, comedies & thrillers, to TV series and informational/educational specials. In addition to the

15,000+ DVDs sent to the troops, we also received hundreds of children’s videos, which were donated to local cancer-treatment hospitals. This is just one of the many services and projects Levittown Kiwanis, along

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Oyster Bay Town Board recently honored Massapequa resident Kristine Magnifico-Riggio and her organization Autism FYI at a recent Town Board meeting, and proclaimed April 2021 Autism Awareness Month in the Town of Oyster Bay. Supervisor Saladino and the Town Board joined Kristine and Autism FYI DVD DRIVE FOR SOLDIERS AND CHILDREN - The Kiwanis Club of Levittown to support and bring recently teamed with Massapequa-based “Big Hy for Heroes” to spearhead a drive to awareness to the 1-in-54 collect and distribute thousands of DVDs for US troops overseas and for children in children born who will be local hospitals. diagnosed with Autism.

training. Autism FYI has created training programs for first responders, childcare providers, transportation models, hair salons, restaurant staff, school resource officers, correctional officers and medical staff. Supervisor Saladino and the Oyster Bay Town Board thanked Kristine and her organization for their amazing work, and presented her with the proclamation honoring Autism Awareness Month in the Town of Oyster Bay.
