Sterling National Bank Charitable Foundation Helps Vulnerable Long Islanders Thrive Options for Community Living, Inc. received a $5,000 grant award from Sterling National Bank Charitable Foundation. This award supports Options housing programs for homeless individuals and families living in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Through housing and case management programs, Options helps more than 2,400 Long Islanders annually. “On a given night in January last year, there were 3,050 people experiencing homelessness on Long Island,” said Yolanda Robano-Gross, Chief Executive Officer at Options for Community Living, Inc. “Our programs help vulnerable people – individuals and families – who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless access and maintain decent housing. Students Make National Connections By Mail After randomly receiving a letter from students at a school in Hawaii, fifth graders at Fairfield Elementary School in the Massapequa School

District are now trying to make connections throughout the United States. The school got a letter from Kaumana Elementary

School in Hilo, Hawaii that was addressed to “Any 5th Grade Class” at Fairfield. Children in Hilo wrote about life at their school and in their community.

The letter inspired young writers in Peggy Meininger’s class. Every student was assigned two states and had to pen a letter to a school in each.

They had to do research to find schools that also included fifth grade. Ms. Meininger said each student’s letter was three paragraphs – the first

about him or herself, the second about Massapequa and Long Island and the third about everything they are learning this year.

FCA runs numerous Children’s Mental Health and Wellness Services programs to help children with mental and/or behavioral health issues and their families, regardless of insurance status and provides Health Home Care Management for recipients of Medicaid in both Nassau and Suffolk counties. Services are provided in the home, school and/or other community setting. FCA services utilize a “family-driven” process to create an individualized plan of service for each child and provides access to appropriate services to improve health outcomes and prevent hospitalizations.

Services (CFTSS): Provides in-home and community based supportive services, including therapy and rehabilitative support services to children who are at risk of being diagnosed or who are formally diagnosed with a mental health diagnosis. Services are available to recipients of Medicaid only.
