t. Rose of Lima students in grades 5 through 8 performed in the chorus and band as part of their annual Christmas Concert. The evening started off with a wonderful performance by the 5th and 6th grade students singing songs that incorporated the use of handheld lights with synchronized movements. As I embark on year number 10 of my tenure here at South Bay’s Neighbor, I am fast approaching another mini-milestone of sorts with this very column. touched on throughout the years, some inspired by the very fan mail and feedback I have received from all of you. It is with that in mind that I invite you to submit your own suggestions for future columns, en route to the next milestone, whatever it may be. Massapequa High School’s music ensembles brought the sounds of the holiday season to the community during its annual holiday concert, December 16th. Performances by the Women’s Chorus, Symphony Orchestra, and A Capella Choir directed by Ilena Dempsey, Marjorie Spagnuolo and Nichole Greene, respectively, had audience members smiling and applauding in delight as they delivered a festive

variety of traditional songs and those enjoyed from around the world. Songs from other countries included the Nigerian Carol Ogo ni Fun Oluwa and the Portugese Adest Fideles, while traditional songs, such as A Christmas Festival, Sleigh Ride and Chanukah Festival Overture, were showcased. “We are proud to share with you the accomplishments of our music ensembles over the past few months while

spreading some holiday cheer to our residents through music,” said Dr. David Gaines, the district’s curriculum associate for music. In addition to the community concert, the high school held its evening holiday concert for parents and family members and its holiday alumni concert where Massapequa High School graduates were called to the stage to perform.

Magical Music & More The Town’s 2015 Children’s Magical Music & More series will kickoff with a performance by Bubblemania, a performance of bubble art and all of its fun by Seth Bloom. The performance will take place at 2 p.m. at the Hicksville Public Library, which is located at 169 Jerusalem Avenue, Hicksville, on Saturday, January 17th. The Town is proud to present the Children’s Magical Music & More

series, helping to provide families and children with exciting, free entertainment at local schools and libraries throughout the Town. This program runs throughout the year and each new month brings with it new performers! In addition to Bubblemania, the Town will host a second performance this month featuring the Plaza Theatrical Productions and their performance

CHRISTMAS PROJECTS - Kindergarten students at St. Rose of Lima prepared for the Christmas season by working on detailed Christmas tree projects with their families. They also enjoyed reading the book The Gingerbread Man, followed by a delicious snack of gingerbread cookies!
