Dr. CYNTHIA PAULIS RUNS FOR MAYOR SEAT IN MASSAPEQUA PARK

I am a proud veteran who served as a military physician for 4 years as a Lt Commander with the USPHS, and as Trauma/ER physician for almost 20 years. A Georgetown University graduate and one of the first six women admitted to the business school I finished in 3 years included six months as an exchange student in Japan. I went on to study for my MBA and spent time working in the international department of Salomen brothers on Wall Street. A year later after working for a small consulting firm I started my own company at the age of 24 recruiting physicians to underserved areas. At 27 I entered medical school on a full scholarship and became the first female in the history of the school to be elected class president. After residency training I went into the military and served during the Gulf War. I became double boarded in both family practice and emergency medicine and was on the front lines setting up emergency care during the tornados in Oklahoma, and providing medical care to victims of Hurricane Katrina. Then years later I assisted the Red Cross when our island was hit by Sandy. VOTE DR. CYNTHIA PAULIS

When I ran the first time there was a huge learning curve. The more I learned the more concerned I was in the management of the village. I discovered that 12 PART TIME elected officials; many who went on the work full time for the Town of Oyster Bay are getting FULLTIME health care for LIFE and their families. This boondoggle costs the village taxpayers $210,115.99 ANNUALLY! That cost will continue to rise. Pearl, who knew about this for SEVEN years, and said nothing, vowed to eliminate this if elected. He didn’t qualify for it and was receiving his insurance from the TOB. Pearl got elected and Nothing has changed. He promised there would be TRANSPARENCY and has right from the first meeting had closed door executive sessions THREE times and refuses to answer questions about what happened. He said if anyone wanted to be a trustee to submit a resume. I asked to look at those resumes and was refused and did a FOIL to see who submitted resumes which is part of open records. Both were denied. Imagine my surprise when he appointed Christine Wiss another full time employee from the TOB who works as a deputy comptroller is now a new trustee who helped his election. So now you have two people who receive checks from your tax dollars double dipping from the village and the TOB. If you think that’s bad enough let’s not forget that during this pandemic when people lost jobs and businesses closed and people struggled to put food on the table the TOB gave bonus raises to 150 workers to the sum of $660,000 without the public’s knowledge. (Newsday October 21, 2020.) Pearl’s salary went from $117,204 to $121,153 and a bonus increase of $13,699 bringing his new salary to $130,903 paid for by your taxes. Trustee Wiss went from $112,245 in 2019 to $117,092 in 2020 and with a bonus increase of $14,597 her new salary from TOB is $126,842. Then add on the village salaries. Aren’t you glad you pay taxes? The optics of these salary increases being rolled out during the lockdown raises all sorts of questions. So tune in weekly folks as you learn more about your village and where your tax dollars are being spent. We need strong, SMART leaders to affect a positive change on our community. Our roads have deteriorated so badly, crime is rising and the lack of concern on the part of the village trustees is infuriating. So for the first time in history in our village there was a three way race between two trustees Theresa Spinosa a CPA, the deputy mayor who sat on the board 18 years, Daniel Pearl works full time for the TOB as deputy commissioner of sanitation. He sat on the village board of Massapequa Park for seven years and had the worst attendance record in a twenty year history review missing more meetings than any other trustee. Then I came into the picture. An independent, gutsy woman who fought my way up the ranks and not afraid to work hard and take on challenges to improve the community.

I was the medical director of an inner city trauma center responsible for the hiring and firing of staff and smooth operation of the ER and was involved in the business as well as the medical end of the ER. I retired from medicine after a serious car accident by Massapequa High School which almost ended my life. Three surgeries later and out of a wheel chair and walking again I am now running for office.

A year ago on October 28 ,2019 at 1:22am the sounds of multiple gunshots rang out in front of my house waking and terrifying a quiet community. The street where I rode my bike as a child and still do was now a major crime scene. Having cameras around my house, the police came to my door wanting the DVR and any information I could assist them with and I was more than happy to help. The video revealed a man running behind a tree and into my neighbor’s backyard. Then a black car pulled up and two men in hoodies with semiautomatic guns starting shooting up my neighbor’s home, both front and side narrowly missing the head of my neighbor and his wife who fell asleep on their couch. Nothing was ever the same after that. The news media descended on our block clogging the streets with camera crews at all hours and politicians who were running for office held a press conference by the village hall declaring Massapequa Park “The safest village in all of Long Island”. As I watched them lie to the people and the reporters my blood boiled. This was just a game to them and all they cared about was getting elected in a few days. A swat team stayed hidden in an unmarked car for several days. Two members from the bloods gang in Bayshore were arrested but due to bail reform were released 5 days later and shot up three more homes on Long Island and injuring a child. The village shut the story down quickly not wanting bad press to affect their election and they succeeded on both counts. It was then I decided to run for office.

Saladino Cautions Residents of Scam Donation Bins Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Lou Imbroto caution residents who leave donations in collection bins to make sure the organizations behind those bins have good intentions. Particularly during the holiday season, Town officials have witnessed a proliferation in illegally-placed bins asking residents to drop off clothing or toy donations. Many of these structures appear to be homemade, contain stencil lettering and no sign of legitimacy. “With the holiday season upon us, many people are looking for ways to help others, especially during this pandemic,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Unfortunately this time of year is also when we begin to see this particular type of scam. We want to make sure our residents are vigilant when it comes to making

donations, and to be sure they are contributing to a legitimate, well-intentioned organization.” While collections bins are not permitted in Town of Oyster Bay operated lots, some well-intentioned businesses that authorize donation bins may not be aware of some are fraudulent. Residents should be aware of the following warning signs: • Collection bins with no identification • Overflowing, nonmaintained donation bins • Donations being requested over the phone • Acknowledgement of a donation never made • Requests for personal identification, including social security number Town officials have removed these illegallyplaced bins in the past after learning that donations were allegedly being improperly collected and sold for profit.

Any residents who see these type of donation bins in their community in the Town of Oyster Bay should contact the Town’s Code Compliance Bureau at (516) 624-6200. “As we approach the holiday season, we want residents to be certain that donations made out of the goodness of their hearts are going to the intended place,” added Councilman Imbroto. “Overall, just be cautious and remain vigilant to protect yourself, protect your personal information and protect your wellintentioned donations.” To learn how charities spend donation monies, residents can visit charitynavigator.org or charitywatch.org. To help hospitals meet the ongoing and pressing need for blood and in honor of cancer survivor Aliyah Petrone of Massapequa, the Town of Oyster Bay will host a Blood Collection Drive on Saturday, December 19th from 10am to 4pm at Marjorie Post Park, located at the intersection of Merrick Road and Unqua Road in Massapequa. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino stated, “The Town of Oyster Bay is proud to partner with the New York Blood Center to collect donations for hospital patients throughout Long Island. This December 19th Blood Collection Drive is especially important as it honors cancer survivor Aliyah Petrone of Massapequa. At the age of 18, Aliyah was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and received multiple blood transfusions at Cohen Children’s Medical Center. Aliyah has a heart of gold and is helping us coordinate this drive so that blood donations are readily available for others.” Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome if capacity permits. Social distancing and sanitary protocols will be in place to maintain the health and safety of all donors. We were pleased to have the Board Members and our Legal Counsel, fmr. State Senator Mike Venditto, with us. Mike also brought his little son, Andrew, and the highlight for me was watching Andrew as the Christmas Tree and Menorah were lit, and then talking to him about Santa Claus and his wish list.

This truly proves that Christmas and Hanukah is the most wonderful time of the year…even with a pandemic over our heads. To this end, I need to recognize the Beautification and Decorating Committee, consisting of Past President Patty Orzano and Treasurer Greg Massimi. Wally D’Amato set up the flags and decorated our Christmas Tree with lights and our beautiful topper. The gazebo wreaths were from Pequa Park Florist. Additional decorative lights were from J.P. Scarisbrick of J.P. Scar Inc. Many thanks to Treasurer Greg Massimi, Howard Ritzer, Mark Wenzel, and Past Presidents Patty Orzano, Phyllis Doria, and Robert Barrett, who also worked on the decorating and finishing touches that made the lighting a success. My heartfelt thanks to all for their dedication and commitment to this annual project. The best part was that this was all funded by two sources. One source was the donations from our local businesses. Special thanks to Town Councilwoman and small business owner Laura Maier. We are proud to have Dairy Queen Grill and Chill as the Platinum Sponsor of our Holiday Beautification Program Fundraiser. The other source was a grant from PSEG that Past Presidents Gary Slavin and Patty Orzano worked on as well. In addition, we will also use the rest of the PSEG grant for local sitting benches around Massapequa.

Our Community Food Drive was also a great success, and Patty Orzano, Phyllis Doria, Karen Gawrych, and Robert Barrett did a great job collecting our pantry donations and getting to those in need. This all makes me proud to be the President of a fine Chamber. They are also completing another Toys for Tots program, and we will make the presentations later this month. The office space that we rent also had the storage area in the basement cleaned out. Chris Merz and CenterPoint Church, along with Sal Polito and Past President Robert Barrett, got this task done with skill, and the storage area looks great. You can see how busy November and December have been, and all performed with dedication and loyalty to our Chamber. Our Board has also approved a new accounting firm, and starting in January, we will have this company handle all of our monthly needs for the Chamber. This will keep all of our financial needs on a sound footing, and all of the Board will be kept informed. Thanks to Steve Parmiter, Greg Massimi, and Robert Zabbia for working on the Finance Committee and securing this company for our benefit. Great work again from some very dedicated people.

The 12th Annual Bethpage Turkey Drive for Island Harvest, which took place on November 20, collected 3,157 turkeys, 28,000 pounds of food and raised more than $17,000 to date, to support Long Islanders experiencing food insecurity, an issue which is escalating resulting from the Coronavirus pandemic. For the first time, this year’s turkey drive was contactless to ensure that community residents and businesses were able to safely drop off their holiday donations. For those who were unable to make a donation to the drive, Bethpage Federal Credit Union has set up an online donation page, where monetary contributions can be made directly to Island Harvest. Oyster Bay Town Councilman Lou Imbroto recently announced that residents who are interested in maintaining or improving their levels of fitness over the cold and stagnant winter months will be able to register for the Town’s popular Co-Ed Fitness Classes. Classes are offered to individuals 18 years of age or older. “The Town is pleased to once again be offering these excellent fitness programs, which provide a terrific outlet for our residents to exercise and stay in shape during the winter,” said Councilman Imbroto. “The Town’s Parks Department does a great job providing residents the opportunity to take advantage of these classes and stay physically active and engaged during the cold winter months. Additionally, these classes will be presented this year with new health protocols in place to protect the health and well-being of our residents as we all continue to navigate the coronavirus pandemic.” This winter, residents will have the choice between the following classes which run for 10 weeks: •Ballroom Dancing: Saturdays, from 7pm to 8pm, beginning on January 9, 2021. This class will be held at the Hicksville Athletic Center •Cardio Kick-Boxing: Thursdays from 7:30pm to 8:30pm beginning January

7, 2021. This class will be held at the Hicksville Athletic Center. •Pilates: Residents can choose their session from the following: Tone & Sculpt Pilates on Mondays beginning January 4, 2021 from 8pm to 9pm; Pilates with Rings on Wednesdays beginning January 6, 2021 from 8:30am to 9:30am; or Pilates with Props beginning January 9, 2021 from 9am to 10am.
