ROCKY is an approximately 12-14 year old male German Shepherd mix. Sadly, Rocky and his two siblings (Cali and Suzie) found themselves orphaned when their dad passed away. This sweet old fella deserves the chance to live out his days in a warm home with a loving family. Rocky has significant arthritis and hearing loss. While Rocky does get along with his siblings, he should be the only pet in the house, if adopted without them. He adores being the object of attention and being around people. We would love to see Rocky adopted or in a permanent foster home in time for the holidays. If you are interested in meeting him, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with him in a domestic setting, which includes our Meet and Greet Room, the dog runs and our Dog Walk trail.

The “Sounds of the Season” Concert for Organ, Flute & Trumpet will be held at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, 2 Bayview Ave, Massapequa, on Saturday, December 12 at 7:30 pm. Admission is free. Face mask required. All are welcome. Social distancing observed.

Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Michele Johnson announces that residents seeking a lowimpact and enjoyable fitness activity are encouraged take part in the Town of Oyster Bay’s Yoga Classes, which will be held in January and February. Classes are coed and open to individuals 18 years of age or older. “The Town is proud to offer residents a variety of programs and services including these yoga classes which offer benefits to the mind, body and soul,” said Councilwoman Johnson. “Yoga builds strength, increases general flexibility and is considered a great stress reliever. Sign up today and use this opportunity to also meet new friends that can last a lifetime!” Beginning January

4th, Yoga Classes will run for 10-weeks on Sundays (9am-10am) at the Hicksville Athletic Center, Mondays (10am11am) at the Hicksville Athletic Center, Tuesdays (8pm-9pm) at the Hicksville Athletic Center, and Saturdays (9am-10am) at the Ice Skating Center in Bethpage. Registration takes place at the Hicksville Athletic Center on Monday, December 14th (5:30pm – 9:30pm), Wednesday, December 16th (5:30pm – 9:30pm) and Thursday, December 17th (5:30pm – 9:30pm). The fee for residents is $60 and $70 for nonresidents. Please note that the schedule may be subject to change and residents are encouraged to inquire about special holiday scheduling. If a

session is cancelled due to inclement weather, a make-up session will be attempted. Mats will not be provided, so participants must bring their own Yoga mat. Participants should check with a physician before partaking in any physical fitness program. Due to COVID, class enrollment will be limited to allow for proper social distancing and temperatures will be checked upon arrival. Masks must be worn while moving throughout the facility. Daily cleaning and sanitizing takes place prior to and after classes. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino stated, “The Town of Oyster Bay is proud to partner with the New York Blood Center to collect donations for hospital patients throughout Long Island. This December 19th Blood Collection Drive is especially important as it honors cancer survivor Aliyah Petrone of Massapequa. At the age of 18, Aliyah was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and received multiple blood transfusions at Cohen Children’s Medical Center. Aliyah has a heart of gold and is helping us coordinate this drive so that blood donations are readily available for others.” Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome if capacity permits. Social distancing and sanitary protocols will be in place to maintain the health and safety of all donors. To qualify as a blood donor, a person must between the ages of 17 and 75 years old (16 with parental permission and 76 or older with a doctor’s note), weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated blood within the last 56 days. Anyone who received a tattoo within the past 12 months is ineligible to donate. It is recommended that volunteers eat well (low fat) and drink fluids in the days

500 for 500 Patriotic Scholarship Program Dr. Cynthia Paulis proud veteran announces the annual 500 for 500 patriotic scholarship program for all seniors at Massapequa High School. The theme this year is Why Veterans are important to this country. In 500 words or less students will write an essay and submit it to Mr. Paul Weber in the guidance office. Make sure your

Two students will be selected from the winning essays, one girl and one boy and will each receive $500 from Dr. Paulis and the essays will be read at a site to be determined later.
