He has been involved in all levels of the fire service and, in addition to his service as Company Captain and Chief of Department, served as President of the Association of Fire Districts of New York State and also as Chairman of the Nassau County Fire Commission. George is a member of Hose & Engine Company 2 who served as Company Captain before being elected to serve as a Commissioner of the North Massapequa Fire District, where administrative skills enabled him to skillfully balance the needs of the fire department and the taxpayers of the district. George has been active in many other diverse capacities within the department. Gary is a
member of Friendship Engine Company 3 and ably served as his company’s captain. Aside from being an active first responder, Ex Captain Pysock serves on the Department’s Board of Directors, was a long time member of the Gremlins Drill Team and serves as Chairman of the Fire Prevention Committee. “We are particularly fortunate to have the service of these three outstanding members of our department,” said chief James Maroldo. “The success of any agency is contingent upon the dedication of exemplary volunteers like them. Town’s Zombie Home Registry Now Live
Town Councilman Lou Imbroto recently announced the launch of a new online initiative that allows residents to report abandoned/zombie properties within their neighborhood located in the unincorporated areas of the Town of Oyster Bay. This new Abandoned Property/Zombie Home Registry assists the Town of Oyster Bay in combatting eyesores in local communities. “Protecting our suburban quality of life is a top priority for the Town Board,” said Councilman Imbroto, who serves as Chairman of the Town’s Quality of Life Taskforce. “No community should be forced to deal with unmaintained and dangerous eyesores that serve as havens for squatters, rodents and other such problems. The Abandoned Property/ Zombie Home Registry will help us continue to make headway with cleaning
up these eyesores, and we encourage residents to serve as our eyes and ears by using this reporting system to help.” Zombie homes are properties that have been vacant for an extended period of time and are often owned by a bank, trust, or mortgage company. Code Enforcement Bureau from the Department of Planning of Development continually monitor vacant properties, issue Notices of Violation against neglected properties, and take action to cleanup properties. With help from the public, the Town can better identify every existing eyesore within communities. Once a property has been identified as abandoned or an eyesore, Code Enforcement Officers inspect the property to assess the property. The Town explores all possible avenues to spur the owner to rehabilitate the property. Once all options have been exhausted, the Town will
seek legal remedies to demolish eyesore in the community. “The objective of the Town’s Zombie Home Program is to ensure the Town of Oyster Bay continues to be a highly desirable community to live, work and raise a family,” added Supervisor Saladino said. “This new, online registry will help our Department of Planning and Development enhance their tracking of eyesores. Ultimately, if the property owner cannot keep it maintained, the goal of this initiative is to make way for new families and new homes after tearing down these zombie homes.” The Town’s Abandoned Property/Zombie Home Registry was established under a grant provided through the New York State Housing Stabilization Fund. That was the question posed to ninth grader in their health classes at the Massapequa High School Ames Campus to begin a lesson on social and emotional health. Health department chairwoman Denise Baldinger told students that they will face a lot of adversity in their lives, and it is up to them how
they can handle those challenges. When faced with heat, the strong carrot wilts and loses strength and an egg becomes hard on the inside, but the coffee bean releases its fragrance and flavor. This metaphor showed students how they can take a negative experience and turn it into a positive one. Challenges, Ms. Baldinger explained,

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Massapequa Park Village Mayor Daniel Pearl announced a new Salivabased COVID testing site for the convenience of local residents will be available at the Marjorie Post Park Community Center on Monday afternoons, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. “We are pleased to expand upon our COVID testing availability to help further accommodate residents, including students and faculty from the Massapequa area. Through our partnership with ProPhase Labs, we have been providing this highly-effective saliva testing, a great non-invasive alternative to a traditional COVID test,” said Supervisor
Saladino. “Many local school districts, community members and their families have taken advantage of this free service and we are happy to partner with the Village of Massapequa Park to further serve our residents.” The saliva-based test is proven to quickly detect and identify COVID-19 and any of its 17+ current viral mutations. ProPhase Labs has the capacity to provide test results to individuals within 24 hours from the time when one of its labs receives and accepts a specimen. Residents who prefer traditional testing, nasopharyngeal swabs can be administered upon request. “We thank the Town of Oyster Bay for their assistance in making this
important service easily available to the residents of Massapequa Park,” said Mayor Pearl. “Continuing to support our school districts with continuing athletic activities and other community events is a high priority, and this service provides a safe method to further help our residents.” Testing will be regularly administered from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday afternoons. The Marjorie Post Park Community Center is located in Massapequa at the intersection of Unqua and Merrick Roads (451 Unqua Road). No appointment is necessary, but residents can register in advance by visiting www.oysterbaytown. com/testing.

This work includes providing personal protective equipment for frontline responders; care kits for schools, jails and the unhoused; studies examining the impact of COVID-19; work to strengthen communities and community-based organizations to improve vaccination uptake and address misinformation; projects focused on health more than 100 projects focused on health equity; and much more. United Way of Long Island’s You Call the Shots will focus its work in six communities designated by New York State as high priority for increasing vaccination rates: Elmont, Hempstead, Freeport, Huntington Station, Brentwood and Bay Shore. The organization will utliize its existing partnerships with corporate entities, government, labor, community leaders, school systems, health providers and over 100 funded communitybased agencies to increase vaccine confidence and uptake through: Bilingual community navigators who will connect Long Islanders to vaccination sites and providers. They will visit and speak with residents about the importance and safety of vaccines, while providing information on vaccination sites and availability. Navigators will work with state and local health departments to ensure pop-up clinics are located in areas where and when needed, as well as schedule appointments, arrange transportation when necessary, and provide facts about COVID-19 and the vaccine in multiple
languages. Leveraging trusted community-level spokespersons to provide consistent, factual and compelling science-based messages in support of vaccination. Spokespersons will be trained on COVID-19 facts and equipped with compelling scientific information to engage with residents and diseminate information through local media outlets, social media, faith-based venues, community events and other community-based, culturally appropriate venues. Building trust with community members to address the concerns people have about COVID-19. To increase confidence in and encourage vaccination, United Way of Long Island spokespersons and health care partners will help combat misinformation, stop myths and build public trust through community outreach and education forums. Funding for this effort is made possible through a subaward from the CDC Foundation and is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) financial assistance award totaling $25,660,048 with 100 percent funding from CDC/HHS. Town Plants Over Million Clam Seeds In Great South Bay
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Councilman Tom Hand and Town Clerk Rich LaMarca took to the waters in the Great South Bay to help replenish the shellfish population on the south shore of the Town. The Town was selected to receive these mollusks as part of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Long Island Shellfish Restoration Project, through which mature clams are planted for the purposes of reproduction
in protected south shore waters. The clams – totaling 1.5 million – were provided by grower Bill Zeller of Captree Clams. “We are pleased to partner with the DEC and Stony Brook University as we continue to expand our shellfish restoration program to our south shore, following our tremendous success in increasing planting on the north shore by millions,” said Supervisor Saladino. “These adult clams are placed into spawner sanctuaries within the greater conservation
