The 10th annual All Kids Fair, which was postponed from its usual month of April to November 8 has now gone virtual! An expo which draws thousands could not take place due to COVID-19, but rest assured a great time can still be had by all members of the family online. This year’s All Kids Fair, which will take place from 11 AM – 4 PM, will have a great line-up of virtual classes for the kids of all ages with some for the adults, too. Some of the many kids’ classes will be:

Incredibles Entertainment, Science Party, Captain America Entertainment, Intro to Chess, and an Adventure Style Class. For the adults, there will be classes on essential oils, avoiding sugar in your children’s diet, and financial planning. Since families always enjoy our petting zoo, this year there will be several virtual “live animal visits,” where farm animals such as sheep, goats and a mini-donkey will be the stars. In addition to being educational, the “visits”

will be highly entertaining. Another new addition to this year’s event are “coffee talks,” opportunities for parents to interact with others at the same stage of life, such as those with a child who is an infant, toddler, elementary age, middle school age, special needs, and gifted. All Kids Fair Director Barbara Kaplan said the time is right to pivot to an All Kids Fair virtual expo. “It’s definitely not “just a Zoom event.’ It is a fullfledged virtual expo. We have incorporated many

of the activities of our live events plus some new opportunities such as our ‘virtual live animal visits’ and ‘coffee talks.’ We are sure that families will have a great time learning about many classes, services and products available to them.” Multi-year sponsor and exhibitor Jennifer Keegan, owner of Your Local Kids Source magazine, shared her thoughts on this event. “After a year full of ups and downs, we are looking

Make Election Day Go Smoothly Be familiar with the candidates and issues on the ballot. Voting is a privilege and a responsibility, so voters should familiarize themselves with the candidates and issues on the ballot in the weeks leading up to Election Day. In addition to national or statewide candidates and issues, voters should learn about local issues that may have a more direct impact on their daily lives. The more voters learn about the candidates and issues in advance, the more quickly they can cast their votes and get to work or return home.

Election Day gives voters throughout the United States a chance to participate in their government. The right to vote is something to cherish, as many people across the globe do not get a chance to elect the officials who govern their countries. While Election Day is an exciting time, voters may find it frustrating if they do not take steps to ensure things go smoothly when they head to the polls. The following tips can help voters prepare for Election Day. Conﬁrm your polling location. Polling locations may have changed since last year, and voters who have moved in the past 12 months may now have to vote in a new location. Voters can contact their local board of elections or visit www.Vote411.org to confirm the correct polling locations for them to cast their votes. Voters should learn the hours when the polls are open so they do not arrive too early or too late to vote. Bring photo identiﬁcation. Voter identification laws vary by state, but voters who want to avoid hassles or holdups may be able to do so by bringing current photo identification with them to the polling place. While such identification is not necessarily a requirement, voters who bring along a driver’s license or state identification card may get in and out of the polling place more quickly than those who do not.

Voting on Election Day is a privilege that voters should not take lightly. Taking certain steps in the weeks ahead of Election Day can make it easier for voters to cast their ballots.

Conﬁrm registration. Voters can confirm that they have registered to vote by contacting their local board of elections in advance of Election Day. Sometimes voters’ names may not appear on the registration list when they arrive to vote, even if they previously registered. Poll workers can help voters who find themselves in such situations. But voters who want to avoid such hassles on Election Day can confirm their registration beforehand.

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran joined with the American Cancer Society to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness month and remind Long Islanders to “Go Pink” by committing to screening, building awareness and raising funds for research and programs to support breast cancer survivors. The message is more important this year, as many breast cancer treatments,

mammograms and other cancer screenings have been impacted by COVID-19. “One in 8 women in the US will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Raising awareness about prevention is even more important this year since many people have put off routine checks and screenings because of COVID-19. Thanks to early detection, better

screening and treatment options deaths due to breast cancer are decreasing, let’s continue the progress and spread awareness and education,” said Nassau County Executive Curran. The month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Each year it is estimated that over 220,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and over

40,000 will die. In Nassau County alone there are approximately 1,295 cases of breast cancer annually, and 146 deaths annually. Also, those attendance at the Breast Cancer Month kick-off included: New York State Senator Kevin Thomas, New York State Assemblyman Chuck Lavine, and Nassau County Legislators Debra Mulé, Ellen Birnbaum, Thomas McKevitt and

Rose Marie Walker. The American Cancer Society also announced a reimagining of their Annual Making Strides for Breast Cancer Walk, the largest breast cancer event in the Country. In lieu of gathering by the thousands at Jones Beach State Park, the American Cancer Society invites people to participate in a drive through experience at Jones Beach on Sunday,

October 18 between 7am-2pm. Attendees are encouraged to decorate their car exterior in pink. Time slots are mandatory to attend.
