HOCKEY HOUNDS WIN CHAMPIONSHIP AGAIN! - On Sunday, July 11, 2021, the Hockey Hounds won the Dek Superstars Squirt A Division Championship for the second season in a row. They were down two goals against the Honey Badgers and ended up scoring three goals in the final seven minutes of the game. The Championship game was played at Dek Superstars in Massapequa.

Sports Camps Bring Past, Present And Future Chiefs Together

Someday, they will suit up in the blue and gold of the Massapequa Chiefs, but this summer hundreds of youngsters are learning the fundamentals of the sports they hope to eventually play at a higher level. After a one-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Massapequa School District’s popular summer sports skills camps have returned. The camps run from June 28 through July 30 at Massapequa High School and Berner Middle School. Most camps are one week but some are multiple weeks. Leading the program are varsity and junior varsity coaches, as well as current and former student athletes. The

high school and college assistants work with elementary and middle school-age students to teach them the basics of the sport. Recent graduate John Reece is student assistant at the five-week baseball camp at the high school. He went to the camp as a child and went on to become a player at the varsity level. Now, he is passing down his knowledge to the future generation, leading games that help them practice their baserunning, fielding and throwing skills. “I have a great time; it brings me back to the old days,” he said. “The children make it fun for me, and I hope I make it fun for them. If I can teach

them a few things, and they have a smile on their face, I know it’s been a good day.” Incoming senior Jillian Johnson has been working at the track and field camp. Catholic Cemeteries of Long Island is offering families of victims and first responders to add loved ones’ names to its 9-11 Memorial as part of the 20th year remembrance of the September 11th Terrorist Attacks on America. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board announced that residents are reminded to bring chairs and coolers to the Summer Concert Series at TOBAY Beach.

In accordance with new CDC guidelines, the concerts will no longer be held in a drive-in fashion and residents can set up seating areas in the lot at TOBAY. The ‘Movies by Moonlight’ series, held at

local parks on Wednesdays this summer, will also be hosted in a traditional manner, inviting residents and families to bring chairs, blankets and coolers to enjoy the show. The 2021 summer

concert and movie series will feature a wide variety of genres ranging from country to rock, providing free family fun for all music lovers, as well as familyfriendly movie selections. Admission is open to

Attention Renters & Landlords: Apply Today for Grants Provided by Congress to the Town of Oyster Bay The Town of Oyster Bay was the recent recipient of $16 million in Federal funds to assist renters facing economic hardships and housing insecurity as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program, designed to help renters facing difficulty in paying their rent and utilities/ home energy costs, is being administered by the Long Island Housing Partnership and the official submission period has now opened. Supervisor Saladino stated, “These Federal funds were granted to the Town of Oyster Bay to help residents recover from economic hardships created by the pandemic and government shutdowns. This rental assistance program provides critical funding to prevent homelessness and

ensure those experiencing financial hardship are able to recover and rebuild their lives while having a stable place to call home.” The program is designed to assist Town residents with current and prospective rent, arrears for utilities and home energy costs, and other expenses related to housing such as rental security deposits. Both tenants and landlords may apply and both will be requested to participate. Assistance under this program could be provided for up to 12 months of payments, with an additional 3 months if necessary to ensure housing stability, and will cover arrears and costs accrued on or after March 13, 2020. Assistance is available on a first-come, first-served basis until Federal funds have been exhausted. To be eligible, a household must meet the following qualifications: • Be renting in the Town of Oyster Bay as a primary residence (including all

Villages but excluding the City of Glen Cove); • Show that one or more individuals within the household has either qualified for unemployment benefits, experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs, or experienced other financial hardship during or due to the COVID-19 pandemic; • Demonstrate that the household is at risk of homelessness or housing instability; and • Have household income at or below 80% of the HUD area median income based on calendar year 2020 or current projected 2021 income.
