Massapequa’s High School’s Family and Consumer Sciences Department will once again sponsor a preschool program for district residents. The program is led by high school students enrolled in Parenting and Child Development, Child Study and college-level Children in Families courses, under the supervision of Massapequa’s child study director, Anna FierroGregg. Students plan, prepare and implement interdisciplinary activities within a thematic unit for the preschool students. Preschool will begin on or

about Nov. 12 and continue to “graduation” in early June. Two sessions are being offered both on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The morning session run from 9:55 a.m. to noon and the afternoon session runs from 12:15-2:15 p.m. Children must attend both days of the session chosen. Bi-monthly donations of $30 or a onetime donation of $120 per child to help defray expenses is encouraged. Equity First Foundation (EFF) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization located here on Long Island. Rhonda Klch started this foundation with the mission to offer services, resources and programs to consumers and small businesses that are facing financial distress. Although the details of financial markets may not be necessary for everyone, a good understanding of everyday finances is needed to ensure your home, bank account and additional assets are protected as you go about your life. This nonprofit is guided by a board of experts from the Long Island business community. They strive to educate the community so people can make financial decisions with knowledge and confidence. EFF provides financial education, literacy and best practices at low or no cost to individuals and groups from primary school through retirement and including life events. Rhonda Klch, Executive Director of the Equity First Foundation has taken all necessary steps to get out of her comfort zone and attack COVID with her resources. As a women entrepreneur, she used her relationships, social media and community to power through this current pandemic. Although EFF has switched their programs from in person to virtual, they have been well received. They continue to offer free financial counseling and outreach resources for numerous families on Long Island. The Equity First Foundation has three different types of programs that they offer: Educational Institution Program This program focuses on k-12, post secondary, and trade schools with student types comprised of all abilities including special needs and developmentally disabled. It is offered as a workshop / assembly that can last for as short as 45 minutes to as long as a full day or mini series. Each program is uniquely designed to fit the educational facility after a comprehensive needs analysis. Some sample topics that can be addressed are:

career options by salary, understanding money management, life skills, healthy financial choices, creating a budget, creating a savings account and more. Community Outreach Program The Community Outreach Program focuses on independent facilities, partnering charities and nonprofits, community centers, libraries, career fairs, guest speakers, events and more for all demographics. These are offered in as short as 45 minutes to as long as a full day or mini series. Some sample topics are: first time home-buyer, understanding student loans, improving your credit, avoiding senior scams, understanding your retirement plan and more. Corporate Awareness Program This program focuses on a lunch and learn structure for 10 or more employees. Some sample topics are: paying off debt, understanding your 401K, saving for vacation, your family on a budget and benefits of good credit. Art shows are a spring staple in the Massapequa School District, allowing students from elementary school through high school to share their creativity and talent. With inperson exhibitions canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers from the art department created an online gallery to showcase student work. Art leadership team members Patti Krakoff, from East Lake Elementary School, and Paul Leone, from Berner Middle School, worked with Director of Fine and Performing Arts

Vincent Green to create the digital exhibition. Pieces in the gallery include work students made in school up until the closure, distance learning assignments and artwork made on their own at home. Art teachers shared a Google survey with their students giving the young artists an opportunity to choose pieces they wanted to display. “We knew that the art students in the district would not
