The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that they are hosting the 44th Annual Jones Beach Volleyball Tournament comprised of 6-player coed teams. This event will take place on Saturday, July 16, 2022 and will be held rain or shine. The tournament will begin at 9:00AM on the volleyball courts at Central Mall Field 4 at Jones Beach State Park. The first round of matches will be played as a round robin. All teams are guaranteed to play seven games. The top two teams from each round robin bracket will advance on to the quarterfinals which will decide the two final teams. Cash prizes will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place teams. Transitioning to college is an exciting, emotional and often challenging time for both young adults and parents. YES Community Counseling Center’s BRIDGES Program is hosting Transitioning to College, a FREE workshop for parents and graduating high school seniors transitioning to college this fall. The program is on Wednesday, July 13th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at YES Community Counseling Center, 152 Center Lane, Levittown. The purpose is to empower young adults to navigate the challenges of starting college and assist parents during this sensitive milestone. The evening will kick off with a panel of speakers addressing young adult social/emotional growth and common college transition issues. Next, The Safe Center LI will focus on creating healthy relationships, including sexual assault prevention. The final part of the program offers a choice of workshops from study skills to match one’s learning style to what college students should know about drugs and alcohol. A separate parent discussion will focus on ways to support their child’s transition to college. Naloxone training will also be offered to both parents and young adults. Spanish translation services will be available for parent sessions. Students in science research classes at Massapequa High School’s Ames Campus not only participated in the 2022 Long Island Science Congress competition, but were awarded for their outstanding projects. LISC is an adjudicated exhibit of science projects by students in Nassau and Suffolk county middle, junior high and senior high schools, sponsored
by the Long Island section of the Science Teachers Association of New York State. Student works were based upon independent experiments performed by students under the guidance of Ames research teacher, Carrie Kaplun. This year, 13 ninth grade research students were recognized at this year’s competition. Finn Curley, Michael
Lerch and Sofia Maran earned high honors with the Lloyd K. Chanin Memorial Award, which includes a $50 prize. Madeline Douglas, Mia Giannico, Amanda Kammerdener, Edward Pan, Shea Ringel and Delaney Sampson earned the Honors Award, and Ava Chaikin, Tyler Lopez, Cassidy Morrow and Katja Vardoulias received the Achievement Award.

Yet, many people, especially those with older policies, have less SUM coverage than they are allowed. Recently enacted state laws require insurance agents to explain to new customers, how much SUM

they may purchase. If your SUM does not equal your Bodily Injury coverage, talk to a licensed agent. Rental Car Coverage If you’ve ever rented a car you have likely been offered optional insurance. You have likely been confused, vulnerable, agitated, and frustrated. Do you, or do you not, need this optional insurance? Often, your own Auto policy’s Property Damage coverage will pay for all
property you may damage while in a rented car. This includes the rented car, itself. Your concern is not whether you have adequate Collision coverage (which protects your car) but, rather, whether you have enough Property Damage coverage to repair the rented car and all of the other cars and property you damage. State laws vary as to how/ which insurance pays for an accident in a rental car. Speak to your insurance agent in advance of your taking a trip. Full coverage If your insurance agent ever told you, “Don’t worry. You have full coverage,” then it might be time to find a new agent. No two people will agree on what is meant by Full Coverage. Huntington Folk Festival Set For July 16 At Heckscher Park The 16th annual Huntington Folk Festival is set for Saturday, July 16, at Heckscher Park, located off Main Street (Route 25A) and Prime Avenue, in Huntington, NY. Extending from 12 noon10 p.m., with a dinner break from 5-7:15 p.m., the free event is co-presented by the Huntington Arts Council, Folk Music Society of Huntington and AcousticMusicScene. com as part of the 57th Huntington Summer Arts Festival produced by the Town of Huntington. ‘An Evening with Paula Cole and Sophie B. Hawkins’ will be preceded by a series of amplified showcases and song swaps, along with a musical tribute to Lois Morton and an open mic, during the afternoon.
Paula Cole is a Grammy Award-winning singersongwriter best known for the 1990s radio hits “I Don’t Want to Wait” and “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone,” while Sophie B. Hawkins is celebrating the 30th anniversary of her breakthrough debut Tongues and Tails, which featured the hit song “Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover.” Prior to the evening concert on the park’s [Harry] Chapin Rainbow Stage, Michael Kornfeld, president of the Folk Music Society of Huntington and editor & publisher of AcousticMusicScene.com (an online publication for the folk, roots and singersongwriter communities), conducts an on-stage conversational interview
with the evening’s featured artists at 7:15 p.m. He also hosts a series of amplified showcases and song swaps from 2-5 p.m. near a canopy tent on the upper lawn area overlooking the stage. These will be preceded by an hour-long open mic hosted by singersongwriter Toby Tobias, who runs the NorthShore Original Open Mic (NOOM), an Acoustic Ally of FMSH, from 12-1 p.m. and Remembering Lois Morton: A Musical Tribute from 1-2 p.m. Artists slated to showcase their talents during the afternoon include Allison Leah, Brett Altman, The Levins, Catherine Miles & Jay Mafale, The Royal Yard, Alan Short, Hank Stone. Christine Sweeney, Us!, Drew Velting, Bob
Westcott, and Scott Wolfson & Other Heroes.
