Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York (Little Flower) is a human services organization that has been around for 93 years. It transforms caring into action to deliver services, programs and direction to improve the lives of children and families in crisis and people with developmental disabilities across New York City and Long Island. Little Flower prides itself on adapting and innovating to address the unmet needs of those in its community by enhancing current programs and services or developing new ones. They have been able to do that by partnering with individuals, businesses and community partners through special events like their Annual Golf Outing! This year they will celebrate their 25th Annual Golf Outing on September 12, 2022 at Engineers Country Club in Roslyn. Guests in attendance will enjoy a day of golf, breakfast, BBQ lunch, a cocktail and networking hour, along with an inspiring program. Little Flower will honor the past and promise for the future with honoree Grace Lo Grande, former Little Flower Executive Director, and special guests, such as former foster youth, now Little Flower Board member, Bianca Buckridee. Grace served the organization for 19 years, seeing it through growth and transformation, witnessing firsthand the tremendous impact made by Little Flower’s essential staff on thousands of children, families and people with developmental or intellectual disabilities. Bianca has the unique experience of Little Flower through the client lens, having received services as a child in foster care. She credits the social workers who worked with her as a young adult with helping her see past foster care and her potential for the future. She has supported the organization over the years and recently was elected a member of their Board of Directors.

The Support Squad is a monthly giving program, where donors will receive a special “thank you” piece of art made from the youth they serve.

Little Free Library A Labor Of Love In need of a good book to read? Head on down to the Massapequa High School Ames Campus, where the newest Little Free Library has opened up on Pittsburgh Avenue, just a few feet from the building. The project was conceived and completed by students in the Career and Community Connections program. A dedication ceremony was held on May 26, with Board of Education trustees, administrators, teachers, parents and students all present. Following a ribboncutting, the library was officially open for business. CCC students were involved in every step of

They were supported by their teachers Kathleen Wegener and Trish DePalma, along with library media specialist Evangeline King and technology teacher Matthew Burke. “The students have worked incredibly hard this year on preparing the Ames Little Free Library for the Massapequa community,” Ms. Wegener said. “They have all truly enjoyed working on this multidisciplinary, handson project.” Ms. DePalma noted that every book was labeled
with a CCC Little Free Library logo, to see how far the books travel. Anyone can take a book from the library, but community members are also encouraged to leave books that they have finished reading and want to share with someone else. CCC students held a collection drive for new and gently used books, for readers of all ages, to initially stock the library. CCC students involved in the creation of the library include Michaela Burke, Lucas Friedman, Ava Gonzalez, Karina Martin, Caitlyn Reece and Christopher Riviezzo.
