The Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk (EOC of Suffolk) is a non-profit organzation that operates a number of programs in both Nassau and Suffolk counties. Based in Patchogue, EOC of Suffolk is dedicated to promoting selfsufficiency among low-income families and individuals. Its programming largely centers on revitalizing communities, broadening the minds of children and assisting families in need. One of this non-profit’s programs that serves people in Suffolk County and Nassau County is called Chronic Health Care Coordination. Managed by program director Delmarie Gotti, Chronic Health Care Coordination supports individuals with such chronic illness as HIV/AIDS, mental health-related conditions, heart disease, diabetes, asthma and hepatitis C. It also serves populations with obesity, substance abuse problems, sickle cell disease and other long-term conditions. This Chronic Health Care Coordination program solely serves people with incomes below the poverty line. Participants, who must be on Medicaid, also often receive various forms of food and housing assistance. Because of their circumstances, and because of the day-to-day life challenges many participants face, it’s often difficult for them to maintain a proper focus on the management of their chronic health needs. Many are jobless and many lack an adequate supply of food. Some are homeless or have lacked proper housing for years.
participants are receiving the necessary care to stay healthy and to stay out of emergency rooms and hospitals. EOC of Suffolk team members help their clients “navigate the system.” They can assist with the filing of applications for various forms of public assistance. They may help connect participants with food pantries and help arrange assistance through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps. Additionally, a support team from EOC of Suffolk can help clients find housing and even help arrange for the services of a moving company. If clients are grappling with behavioral or mental health issues, EOC staffers can help them get proper professional assistance. They’ll help participants get past possible stigmas often associated with mental illness. The EOC of Suffolk team can assist by lining up such support as therapeutic assistance, group therapy and medications. While individual care plans vary from client to client, the most common, long-term goal of the Chronic Health Care Coordination program is to help participants manage their personal health care needs, stabilize their lives, become independent and find work. Clients who achieve these goals “graduate” from the program, ready to move on with their lives on a firm foundation. Ms. Gotti and her skilled team of care coordinators focus on helping individuals manage their physical health, behavioral health, and social needs in a comprehensive manner. Receiver Pravato Advises Late School Taxpayers Of Last Chance LONG ISLAND
To assist property owners who missed the May 10th deadline for paying their 2021-2022 school taxes, Oyster Bay Town Receiver of Taxes Jeffrey Pravato reminds residents they can still pay the bill by June 1st with a State-mandated 2% late payment penalty while avoiding additional interest and fees from accruing on their property. Late payers should immediately contact the Tax Receiver Pravato’s office at (516) 624-6400 if they did not receive a
second notification with a delinquent tax bill. Payments postmarked after May 31st cannot be accepted since the collection warrant will have expired. Those payments must be sent to the Nassau County Treasurer at 1 West Street, Mineola, New York 11501. In September, the Nassau County Treasurer will be mailing notices to all property owners with taxes in arrears. Receiver Pravato advises homeowners who fall
under those circumstances to contact the Nassau County Treasurer at (516) 571-2090 to determine the amount due. They may also visit the Nassau County Treasurer’s Office at 1 West Street in Mineola. Receiver Pravato noted, “Taxpayers in New York State are already paying some of the highest property taxes in the nation, and I want to make sure that our residents do not pay more out of pocket than they have to.”

Town To Upgrade Field Of Dreams In Massapequa With New Synthetic Turf Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino announced that the Town will upgrade two athletic fields at Field of Dreams in Massapequa. As part of these upgrades, the Town will replace two synthetic turf fields, including the east soccer/lacrosse/football field and the practice field. These replacements will not only improve the playing surfaces for young athletes, but also the overall safety for players. “These safety upgrades will help protect local
athletes and children who use these fields, as the existing synthetic fields have become worn out over time,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Synthetic fields improve the look of our community, help alleviate the high costs associated with maintaining grass fields, and increase play time for athletes as weather has limited impact on the fields.” Synthetic turf fields have an approximate useful life of 8-10 years, depending on use, and are less expensive
than the long-term cost of maintaining natural grass and a dirt surface. Synthetic fields also provide the potential for fewer cancellations of games due to inclement weather, as the field is able to absorb rain storms in a manner that is not possible on a dirt infield. Walsh Announces Sports Programs For Summer 2022 Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Vicki Walsh invites residents to take part in Summer Athletic Programs for basketball, badminton, and volleyball, beginning on July 10th at the Hicksville Athletic Center. All athletic programs run for 10 weeks, are co-ed, and open to individuals 18 and over. “The Town’s athletic programs offer a great opportunity for residents to take to the court, improve their skills, and make new
friends,” said Councilwoman Walsh. “Playing basketball, badminton, and volleyball are the ideal way to have fun while staying active, and I encourage residents to take advantage of these Town programs.” Basketball will be held on Thursdays from 9:00 PM to 10:30 PM, Saturdays from 8:15 AM to 10:00 AM, and Sundays from 8:15 AM to 10:00 AM, beginning on July 10, 2022. The Basketball program is 10-weeks long and costs $25 for residents
and $40 for non-residents. Registration is at the Hicksville Athletic Center (167 Broadway, Hicksville) on June 6, June 7, and June 8 between the hours of 5:30 PM - 9:30 PM. children ages 5 and older. “Because we live in a Town sandwiched between the Long Island Sound and the Atlantic Ocean, it is extremely important that children in the Town of Oyster Bay learn how to swim,” said Councilman Hand. “Our swim lessons have been a hugely popular program for many years as children learn how to safely enjoy fun in the pool under the guidance of our American Red Cross certified lifeguards.” There are four twoweek sessions throughout the summer. Classes are run on weekdays at 11:15 am and 12:15 pm for 45 minutes each. The registration fee is $55 per child for the first two-week session with a season pass.
