April 15th. The drive focuses on collecting food for our residents’ pets through Baxter’s Pet Pantry, which supplies free pet food and supplies to pet-owning families in need in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Supervisor Saladino and Town officials were honored for

Free Drive-In Movie Return to Town of Oyster Bay Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board are excited to announce the return of drive-in movies this spring. Free pop-up theatres will offer drivein experiences to Town of Oyster Bay residents. Supervisor Joseph Saladino stated, “Drivein movies will return to the Town of Oyster Bay for residents to enjoy
great family-friendly films from the comfort of their own car while taking in the spring breeze. Join us and take these rare opportunities sit back, relax and enjoy the show.” The following movie is playing at a pop-up theatre near you beginning at dusk: Friday, April 23rd at TOBAY Beach in Massapequa: Trolls World

Blood Donations Critically Needed to Help Replenish Low Supplies to maintain the health and safety of all donors. To qualify as a blood donor, a person must between the ages of 17 and 75 years old (16 with parental permission and 76 or older with a doctor’s note), weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated blood within the last 56 days. Anyone who received a tattoo within the past 12 months is ineligible to donate. It is recommended that volunteers eat well (low fat) and drink fluids in the days before the Blood Drive. Clerk LaMarca added, “It’s quick, easy, and safe to donate a single pint of blood which can save up to three lives. If you have family members or friends willing to donate, please ask them to support our effort this year, as this initiative is more vital than ever to help make sure that our local hospitals can meet the excessive demand during the coronavirus pandemic and continue to save the lives of as many people as possible.” For additional information regarding the Town’s Blood Drive, contact the Town Office of Public Information at (516) 624-6380. Contractors For Kids (CFK) is a non-profit organization, which was founded for the purpose of providing assistance to families in Long Island communities. Their goal is to assist children and their families overcome obstacles that have unfortunately changed or have impacted their lives through the sickness, injury or death of a child. They are committed to this cause and want to give hope and reassurance for the futures of Long Islanders. CFK was founded in 2005 by Kevin Harney and Alan Nahmias of Stalco Construction. Kevin and Alan, both long-time philanthropists, saw the growing need for financial assistance in our communities and knew that something more needed to be done. Through random acts of kindness, they were slowly changing the lives of others, however they thirsted to make more change so they decided to form this non-profit, Contractors For Kids. The Board of Directors, members, supporters and volunteers of CFK are all “Contractors For Kids.” They are all helping others and building futures for children and their families in need. Their organization runs on donations only and is volunteer based, they have no employees. One family at a time, they make sure that the financial hardship brought on by sickness, injury or death does not destroy an already hurting family. Whether it is to pay a phone bill or a mortgage payment, they want to be there to help. So how do you qualify to get help? It’s quite simple. If you can prove that you are struggling financially because of the sickness, injury or death of a child, you live on Long Island (in Nassau or Suffolk County), and you have filled out their Application For Assistance, they will get in touch with you to see how they can be of help! Contractors For Kids is local to the core. They know our Island well and they love to help locals. Their office is
located in Holbrook and they have no plans of going anywhere. The pandemic took its toll on CFK, as it did on many, but they stayed afloat and are thankful for the opportunity to continue to make a difference. Since 2005, CFK has given out more than 3 MILLION DOLLARS to help local Long Islanders. Here are some of the areas they’ve helped others financially: Rent, Mortgage Payments, Oil Deliveries, Utility Bills, Food, Transportation To & From Hospitals, Co-Payments, Medications & Funeral Expenses. Donations are so important to CFK, especially being that they receive no grant money. They would like to thank all thsoe who attended their Scavenger Hunt fundraising event on April 10th. Their next fundraising event will be a golf outing on June 14th, stay tuned for more information! Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilwoman Michele Johnson invite residents to participate in a special Oyster Bay Harbor & Beach Cleanup, scheduled for Saturday, April 17th. The event is co-sponsored by the Town of Oyster Bay, the North Oyster Bay Baymen’s Association (NOBBA) and Friends of the Bay. Preregistration is necessary. “This great environmental cleanup initiative features volunteers and Town employees rolling up their sleeves and working sideby-side to remove litter and
debris from the beaches and shoreline areas along Oyster Bay Harbor,” Supervisor Saladino said. “We invite residents of all ages to pitch in and help make a difference in our community!” Volunteers are invited to participate in the cleanup, which will run from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The central meeting place will be Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park launching ramps and waterfront gazebo off of Larrabee Avenue, Oyster Bay. Hundreds of volunteers of all ages joined with Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Councilwoman Laura Maier and Receiver of Taxes Jeff Pravato at the Town’s Dune Day event at TOBAY Beach. State Assemblyman Michael
Durso also participated in the event. This project brings together groups, families, and individuals concerned about our environment helping to protect and preserve our beautiful shoreline by planting stalks of dune grass. Dunes along the
south shore continue to face environmentally damaging storms that have a significant impact on the beach. Statistics indicate that the planting of dune grass provides a natural shield that is perfect for withstanding storm surges and high winds.
Town Invites Residents to ‘Commit to Conserve’ in Wyland Water Conservation Challenge
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Tom Hand announce the Town’s participation in the Wyland Water Conservation Challenge, a friendly national competition between municipalities across the country. The challenge will be held through April 30. Residents are encouraged to make an online pledge to commit to the conservation of water in their everyday lives. “We’re challenging residents to think twice about their water use and commit to conservation throughout the month of April,” said Supervisor Saladino. “This national challenge invites us to sign a pledge at www. mywaterpledge.com, and commit to use water more efficiently, reduce pollution, and save energy. Participants also have the opportunity to win some great prizes and take home bragging rights over other local governments throughout the country.” Last year, residents from over 2,000 locations
throughout the country pledged to reduce their annual consumption of freshwater by over 1 billion gallons, reduce waste sent to landfills and prevent hazardous waste from entering watersheds. The challenge encourages participants to look beyond short term issues and look at the ways water use affects the future of our communities — from how we manage our coasts, lakes, and rivers to reducing polluted runoff. “The Town of Oyster Bay is blessed with beautiful shorelines on its north and south shores, and our Town Board has continuously demonstrated our commitment to protecting our environment, our water quality and our shorelines,” said Supervisor Saladino. “We understand the importance of water conservation on every level and have taken many steps to protect our water supply. From creating a shellfish management program which helps keep our harbor clean to leading the initiative for the remediation of the
Grumman Navy Plume, we’ve consistently shown that we are committed to the preservation of our most precious resource.” Councilman Hand added, “Water conservation is something we can easily achieve each and every day. From watching sprinkler usage, repairing leading faucets and pipes, using reusable shopping bags and water bottles, to recycling plastics, metals and cardboard, we can truly make a difference. It doesn’t take much, and every drop counts!” To participate in the challenge and qualify for prizes, residents can visit www.mywaterpledge.com and make their online pledge to conserve water in the Town of Oyster Bay. Municipalities with the highest percentage of residents who participate receive a chance to win money toward their home utility bills and many more eco-friendly prizes. Locations are categorized by population. Students and teachers are also invited to participate.

East Lake Students Are Masters Of Disguise There was a bug invasion in a fourth grade classroom at East Lake Elementary School in the Massapequa School District, but the paper critters were a little hard to spot as it was part of a lesson on camouflage. During a science lesson in Theresa LiCausi’s class, students learned how animals hide, and they focused on the ways bugs
are able to blend in with their surroundings. Each student was tasked with making a paper insect and giving it a design so it could blend into a surface in the classroom. Before school one day, Ms. LiCausi hid their creatures around the room and when students arrived, they went on a bug hunt, trying to find as many as they could.
The bugs were “hidden in plain sight,” Ms. LiCausi said, but many were hard to find because the students did such a good job camouflaging them. She awarded a prize to the student who found the most bugs, and the student whose bug couldn’t be found at all.
