Our January General Meeting was at Mario’s Pizzeria Restaurant. We had a great turnout of our business members, and all enjoyed each other’s company. The February General Meeting will be held at Sal’s Place, and we will once again honor the local volunteer firefighters from the Massapequas who proudly serve in those positions. Visit our website or call the office and sign up for what promises to be a great afternoon. The March General Meeting will be a breakfast at CenterPoint Church. Thanks to our co-Chaplain Chris Merz, we will have a great meeting at a nice venue. The Guest Speaker for this meeting on March 24th will be Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder to update us all on law enforcement and keeping our county safe. We hope to see many of our members at this breakfast meeting. Upcoming programs include our Scholarship Program chaired by Second Vice President Karen Gawrych; our Nominations Report chaired by Past President Patty Orzano; our Random Act of Kindness Award chaired by Past President Gary Slavin; and our Member Benefits Roll-Out chaired by First Vice President Robert Zabbia. In addition, we will continue our involvement with the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce and their initiatives, led by their President Frank Camarano Jr. We are proud to have Gary Slavin representing our Chamber at these meetings. We will have an update shortly on the meetings being held, and their work with the new County Executive as well. Congratulations to our member J.P. Scarisbrick on his recent award from the Specialty Advertising Association of Greater New York (SAAGNY) for his very successful promotional products business. His items are second to none, and this was most deserving on his part. Please keep our Chamber Chaplain Father Tony in your prayers, as he recently was relocated to a facility in Ronkonkoma for retired clergy. He is doing well there.

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Lou Imbroto honored ice hockey coaches Kathryn Griswold and Buzz Deschamps as ‘Employees of the Month’ for their exemplary leadership in managing the program, as well as their enthusiasm and dedication to the game and the youngsters they teach. As program Director, Buzz recruited Kathryn to serve as a coach and staff member; her foresight and passion has grown the Girl’s Hockey Program from 6 participants to more than 40. “Kathyrn, you have brought your exceptional management skills into all aspects of coaching here
at the rink, from player development to fostering an atmosphere of teamwork and sportsmanship,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Buzz, you are an icon in the hockey world at all levels and your efforts here at our rink, and across the island, to grow this great sport are legendary.” “You are both incredible assets to our program and we are extremely fortunate to have you on our team. Children in Hilo wrote about life at their school and in their community. The letter inspired young writers in Peggy Meininger’s class. Every student was assigned two states and had to pen a letter to a school in each. They had to do research to find schools that also included fifth grade. Ms. Meininger said each student’s letter was three paragraphs – the first about him or herself, the second about Massapequa and Long Island and the third about everything they are learning this year.
