Mr. Carl R. Reinhard, a resident of Huntington Station, LI, died January 21, 2020 at Hospice Inn, Melville, LI. He was 59 Years old. Mr. Reinhard was born on June 25, 1960 in Southampton, LI to Carl and Marilyn (Lake) Reinhard. He was employed by West Amity Auto Part, Massapequa, LI, as a machinist. Survivors include his wife, Erica, his son Carl, Jr., his sister Carol Lynn Reinhard, his brother Robert Reinhard and his nieces and nephews Tom, Pete, Tim and Becky Reinhard. The Reverend David W. Anglin conducted a memorial service at the funeral home on Sunday, January 25, 2020. Cremation was private. Arrangements were under the direction of Powell Funeral Home, Inc., Amityville, New York.

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and new Town Clerk Richard LaMarca invite residents to renew their wedding vows at a group ceremony scheduled for this Valentine’s Day, Friday, February 14th, at Oyster Bay Town Hall. The special ceremony will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will include free photography and wedding cake for all guests. “Valentine’s Day is recognized as the most romantic day of the year, and many couples celebrate their wedding anniversaries on this special day,” said Supervisor Saladino. “We look forward to sharing in this special occasion for our residents looking to renew their marriage vows and declare their endless love for one

another.” The ceremony will take place at Oyster Bay Town Hall, 54 Audrey Avenue in Oyster Bay hamlet. The event is offered free of charge to Town residents but reservations are required. Residents interested in renewing their wedding vows should contact the Town’s Public Information Office at (516) 624-6380. Town Clerk LaMarca also invites residents interested in getting married this Valentine’s Day to have their special ceremony at Town Hall. “Couples often select Valentine’s Day to celebrate their relationship,” said Town Clerk LaMarca. “It may be a sentimental choice for couples who had their first date, first kiss, or even engagement on Valentine’s Day. FOR VALENTINE’S DAY GIVE THE GIFT OF SAFETY By Dr. Cynthia Paulis

As Valentine’s Day approaches we reach out to those we love to express our feelings for people who are important to us, be it family, friends, colleagues, and yes even pets. We show our expressions of love through gestures of dinners, cards, candy, because we care about people who matter to us. As a veteran, business woman, doctor and journalist I have worked hard to educate the public on disease prevention. However, I now have a new cause as the Mayoral candidate for Massapequa Park which is to educate the public on safety in your own home. My illusion of safety at home was shattered October 28, 2019 at 1:22 am when a car pulled up across the street from my home and two men with semiautomatic guns in 28 seconds blasted my innocent neighbor’s home with 24 bullets narrowly missing them as they lay sleeping on the first floor. The police came to my home at 2 am looking for help because my cameras recorded everything as did my neighbors. The cameras were instrumental in locating some of the gang members. As I visited with neighbors I realized how so many just across Sunrise Highway from the village hall were unaware of the dangers that terrorized our community that horrible night, and do very little to safeguard their home and loved ones. This idyllic tree lined community now has become a haven for drug dealing, robberies, vandalism, and a dumping ground for dead bodies in our beautiful preserve by MS 13, yet some people still take no precautions at safeguarding their own homes. I have heard all the excuses, well I have a dog he will protect me. I have a gun, that’s great but what happens when you are at work and your family is home alone? I have an alarm system, wonderful can it identify who is lurking around your backyard? I am not an alarmist but a realist trying to keep you safe and telling you the truth. The best thing you can do is get cameras installed. They have come down in price, Home Depot, Walmart, on line you can find cameras cheaply now and even the Ring systems are amazing with the quality and sound alerting you when someone is near your home. Install flood lights around your property and motion detection lights especially corner houses which are targets for crime because of the two street accessibility. Keep your doors and windows locked even if you are home and don’t open your doors to strangers. Don’t leave your keys in the door, I have seen this several times. Even though you have a glass door in front of your main door you can forget the keys are in there and now you have just given the bad guys an open invitation. Lock your car doors and windows at all times. Cars are being broken into regularly that are left unlocked as thieves are looking for cash and valuables. If you have fences with gates around your property, lock them with a combination lock. The night of the shooting the kid who did the drug deal ran into my neighbor’s yard through an unlocked gate. The gang members thought he lived there and riddled the house with bullets. Join up with a community watch group and if you see something suspicious let your neighbors know and notify the police. These are simple fixes to securing your home which is your castle. Now that you hopefully have followed some of these safety tips you can sit back and dive into that box of chocolates, Happy Valentines Day. Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Michele Johnson today announced that residents looking for fun activities to ﬁll their week of winter recess need look no further than the Town’s Ice Skating Rinks – outdoors at Marjorie Post and Syosset-Woodbury Parks and indoors at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage. Beginning Sunday, February 16th, and lasting through Friday, February 21st, the Town’s three rinks will be offering special public session schedules throughout Presidents’ week, providing kids who are off school a fun-ﬁlled wintertime activity. “During Presidents’ week when most schools are closed, the Town’s ice rinks will be open and

YES Community Counseling Center Receives $9000 Grant Award

YES Community Counseling Center is pleased to announce it has received a $9000 Community Partner grant from United Way of Long Island. Girls on the Run is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. They run a physical activity-based positive youth development program that is designed to enhance girls’ social, psychological and physical skills and behaviors to help them successfully navigate life experiences.

They serve girls in grades 3-5 and inspire them to be joyful, healthy and confident by using a fun, interactive curriculum, which creatively integrates running! Meeting twice a week in small teams for a 10-week season, a volunteer coach will teach girls life skills through engaging lessons and fun movement activities. At each season’s conclusion, all girls from teams across Long Island will meet up for a celebratory 5K running event. This year’s 5K event is scheduled for Saturday, June 6 at Hofstra University, where over 1000 individuals will run, volunteer or spectate to celebrate! Their upcoming spring season will begin the week of March 16th and is shaping up to be their largest season yet! This organization truly makes a difference! Candidates must be team captains, of Hispanic descent and have a grade point average of 90 or higher. Juan has run track since eighth grade and is a middistance sprint runner, primarily participating in 300-meter, 400-meter and 4x4 relay races. He has broken several school records, some dating back 50 years. Among his responsibilities as captain are leading sprinters in warmup exercises and teaching younger members of the team how to properly stretch before a meet. He is a three-time All-County athlete and has earned one All-Long Island and two All-Conference selections. Receiving the Leaders

of Tomorrow award is a great honor, Juan said, as it represents being a good athlete, a good scholar and a good person. He explained that he looks up to past winners of the award and as a recipient now himself, he hopes to be a good role model for others. Juan noted that he has a passion for track, as he loves being part of a team and working toward a goal.
