During PARP, which is presented in partnership with the PTA, children are encouraged to read for at least 20 minutes per day with a family member or friend. There are also daily and weekly challenges, and special gifts and surprises. Through Feb. 11,
students can participate in a variety of reading and kindness challenges. Championship Cat Shows and more. “We always have fun at these events, but we also are strong supporters of responsible pet ownership and humane values when it comes to all issues involving animals and pets,” said Garetano. “We partner with several community organizations, shelters, veterinarians and other animal lovers educate and inform when it comes to best practices for training, feeding and all aspects of pet care.” Community and rescue organizations participating in the show include Tylers Rescue, Chippy’s Angels to the Rescue, Haven Animal Foundation, Last Chance Animal Rescue, Pet Partners, LI Golden Retriever Rescue, and more The event is expected to draw over 10,000 attendees over the weekend. Admission is Adults $15, Kids 3-11 are $6, and those under three years old are always free. Saturday March 5th the hours are 10 am to 7 pm, and on Sunday, March 6th, from 10 am to 5pm. Let me begin by thanking Board Member and Event Co-Chair Lucrezia Falacara for the great job that she did at the Christmas Tree Lighting and Hanukkah Celebration, and for jumping in to keep all things organized as she always does. Our January General Meeting was at Mario’s Pizzeria Restaurant. We had a great turnout of our business members, and all enjoyed each other’s company.
The March General Meeting will be a breakfast at CenterPoint Church. Thanks to our co-Chaplain Chris Merz, we will have a great meeting at a nice venue. The Guest Speaker for this meeting on March 24th will be Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder to update us all on law enforcement and keeping our county safe. We hope to see many of our members at this breakfast meeting. Upcoming programs include our Scholarship Program chaired by Second Vice President Karen Gawrych; our Nominations Report chaired by Past President Patty Orzano; our Random Act of Kindness Award chaired by Past President Gary Slavin; and our Member Benefits Roll-Out chaired by First Vice President Robert Zabbia. In addition, we will continue our involvement with the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce and their initiatives, led by their President Frank Camarano Jr. We are proud to have Gary Slavin representing our Chamber at these meetings. We will have an update shortly on the meetings being held, and their work with the new County Executive as well. Congratulations to our member J.P. Scarisbrick on his recent award from the Specialty Advertising Association of Greater New York (SAAGNY) for his very successful promotional products business. His items are second to none, and this was most deserving on his part. Please keep our Chamber Chaplain Father Tony in your prayers, as he recently was relocated to a facility in Ronkonkoma for retired clergy. He is doing well there.

Students Put A Modern Twist On Books
First, they went on a fact-finding mission, then they tapped into their technology prowess. Fourth graders in Lisa Burke’s class at Birch Lane Elementary School in the Massapequa School District explored nonfiction writing by picking topics of personal interest, then making digital books.
Students used both print books and credible online resources to gather information on their topics, which included animals, astronomy and holidays. They created their projects, which were typically six to eight pages, using the Book Creator app. Ms. Burke said that students enjoyed using

Skate For A Cause With the school winter break upon us and families looking for a staycation, Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Steve Labriola invite residents to skate for a cause on 2/22/22, when the Town will be offering $2 admission and $2 skate rental to residents who bring 2 non-perishable food items to any Town rink on Tuesday, February 22nd. “The date of 2/22/22 is unique in that it falls this year during most school district’s winter break, where many families and children are looking for fun staycation opportunities. We invite our residents to help us ‘double our efforts’ in collecting non-
perishable food items on 2/22, welcoming them to skate for just $2 at any of our wonderful three ice skating facilities,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Whether you prefer our outdoor rinks at Marjorie Post Park in Massapequa and Syosset-Woodbury Community Park, or our indoor Town Skating Center at Bethpage Community Park, enjoy $2 admission and $2 rentals for any of our 2 hour sessions throughout the day.” Public skating sessions available on 2/22/22 at all three Town skating facilities run from 1-3pm, 4-6pm and 7-9pm. In addition to $2 skating and $2 skate rentals, the concession stands will
