Nearly half of that ($15,439) is spent on the reception venue alone. As expensive as wedding receptions can be, couples should know that there are many ways to reduce reception costs without sacrificing fun. 1. Choose Foods Wisely Pour over the details of catering costs. The Knot says the average price for catering will be $68 per person. WEDDING FLOWERS - Couples are moving away from traditional centerpieces to floral chandeliers and curtains made of blooms for their weddings. Move over bouquets and centerpieces, flowers are taking over weddings in a big way. While wedding trends come and go, flowers will always have a place at the wedding table. Many modern couples are opting for statement pieces with their flowers to rival the big and bold ideas they’re incorporating elsewhere into their occasions, such as in cakes and clothing. In 2016, Lindenhurst Union Free School District teacher John Mansfield spearheaded the First Book campaign for the Lindenhurst community and was able to secure a total of 7,000 new books for distribution to the children of Lindenhurst. Each pallet received contained books leveled for students in preschool through eighth grade. As such, books were distributed to all Lindenhurst UFSD elementary schools, the middle school and several community preschools. This year, the drive netted an additional collection of books to establish a library for the district’s Lindenhurst Academy. Additionally, books were provided to the English Language Arts Department of the Lindenhurst High School and Middle School for the distribution of books to enhance or establish classroom libraries.

Savvy couples who have guests’ health and comfort in mind recognize the importance of offering a varied meal plan for wedding-related parties and receptions. The following are some ideas to consider when planning wedding menus. • Consider a buffet-style service. Although couples might like the tradition and ﬂair that a seated/plated meal offers, it creates a much more limited selection of meal options. Students of Albany Avenue Elementary School in the Lindenhurst Union Free School District recently explored the writing process with Jen Calonita, author of the “Fairy Tale Reform School” book series among others. Calonita spoke about her early days of writing as an entertainment

journalist, a position she held for 10 years prior to writing her first young adult series, “Secrets of My Hollywood Life.” She shared with the students how she came to write various book series including “Fairy Tale Reform School,” “Royal Academy Rebels” and “Twisted Tales.”

Students Meet ‘Twisted Tales’ Author During each of the two school assemblies, the author explored writing strategies and the process of writing and publishing a book. Later in the day, Calonita expanded upon this information as she conducted a writer’s workshop session with fourth grade students.

“I started writing an email full of all the details to Mr. Miles immediately after I left the library,” she said. “I wanted to retain everything I could about the story.” The purpose of her journey to Princeton was to share her knowledge with the teacher who inspired her.

“Mr. Miles is an inspiration and he always tells me that I inspire him,” she said. “I never even liked to read and he made me fall in love with books.
