Autism FYI was founded by Dr. James Benjamin and his wife Joyce in 2014 to help advance awareness of the needs surrounding people with Autism. They accomplish this goal of theirs through a safety membership program offered by their organization that is called IRIS, as well as through training that creates community awareness about Autism and allows businesses to become “Autism Friendly Certiﬁed”, which allows them to create a more inclusive community for those with Autism.

In regards to their IRIS program, IRIS stands for Immediate Recognition Increases Safety. This program is free and anyone can register for at www. afyi-iris.org (parents or guardians can register and enroll their child or dependent as a member and those who are over 18 years can register and enroll themselves). The program is dedicated to the safety of those on the Autism Spectrum and those with Neurological or Brain Disorders. This includes those with Alzheimers, MS, Intellectual Development Disabilities, Down’s Syndrome, Brain Injury, PTSD and others. IRIS provides 24 hour access to members emergency information and contacts through their emergency hotline.

Another part of their IRIS program is their communication app, which is available for free in the app stores. This app contains picture language and emojis, so ﬁrst responders can communicate easily with the individual. It also contains their 24hour emergency hotline information and the 5 Keys To De-Escalation. A Message From Lindenhurst Mayor Michael Lavorata A mask mandate for shops and other indoor spaces in New York State took effect on Monday, December 13th to confront a surge in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations. Governor Hochul’s mandate requires masks to be worn in all indoor public buildings, unless the businesses or venues implement a vaccine requirement. The mask mandate will be in effect until January 15, 2022.

At this stage, Lindenhurst residents have no other choice but to comply with the Governor’s mask mandate. I am in favor everyone doing everything possible to keep ourselves and each other healthy. I am very impressed that many of our Lindenhurst residents have already gotten vaccinated and have taken commonsense steps to deal with this never-ending

pandemic. Our local businesses, who have already suffered so much already, are also working to keep the public safe. We are all feeling the effects of “pandemic fatigue”, but with the Delta and Omicron variants still very strong, we must be vigilant. Circuit Reliability Upgrades Begin in Brentwood, Copiague, Deer Park, Lindenhurst, West Babylon, Wyandanch PSEG Long Island is improving the reliability of the energy grid in Brentwood, Copiague, Deer Park, Lindenhurst, West Babylon and Wyandanch. The storm hardening work on these three distribution circuits is part of many system improvements included in the “Power On” program. “Reliable electricity is more important than ever to our customers. Through

Power On, PSEG Long Island is strengthening the electric lines that directly power homes and businesses, making them more resilient during storms,” said Peggy Keane, PSEG Long Island’s vice president of Construction and Operations Services. “These infrastructure improvement projects in Brentwood, Copiague, Deer Park, Lindenhurst, West Babylon and

Wyandanch are part of our ongoing, multi-year effort to continue to improve electric reliability for our customers.” Beginning in November and lasting for approximately three months, PSEG Long Island’s licensed and approved contractors will work along mainline distribution lines in three areas: Brentwood and Deer Park; Copiague and

Lindenhurst; and West Babylon and Wyandanch. To ensure traffic moves safely, PSEG Long Island will provide cones, flaggers and signage at the work sites as needed. Local officials also will be notified in advance regarding any potential traffic concerns. The storm-hardening improvements include: ·Stronger poles: PSEG Long Island will replace

some existing utility poles with stronger, more durable poles that are capable of withstanding winds up to 135 mph. The new poles will be approximately the same height as the existing poles, have a stronger base and will be placed no more than 5 feet from the current pole locations. PSEG Long Island will actively coordinate the removal of old poles
