There are many ways that individuals just like you can get involved with Long Island Cares. You can volunteer with the organization, even if it is just for a few hours, to help make a difference in the lives of others. Volunteers can participate in the following areas: Warehouse Sorting & Repacking (lifting is required), Clerical Tasks, Mobile Pantry, Food Pantries, Special Events, Food Drives or their Student Volunteer Corps. Please email licvolunteer@ licares.org for more information. Additionally, they are holding their annual Adopt-a-Family Thanksgiving Food Drive! This project involves others to volunteer their time to gather and bag items for families in need so they can have a filling Thanksgiving. This is the perfect opportunity for families, groups and students to get involved in their community. Long Island Cares has a goal of reaching

5,000 families and they need your help to reach that goal! They ask that you provide the following specific items in order to provide a Long Island family with a full Thanksgiving meal: - 4 cans of vegetables - 4 cans of fruit - 1 can of pumpkin or pie filling - 1 box/bag of stuffing - 1 box of mashed potato mix - 1 jar/can/packet of gravy - 1 can of cranberry sauce - 1 box of dessert mix (cake/cookie/ muffin) - OPTIONAL: Turkey (please put in a separate bag if you wish to donate this) Donations should be double bagged or in a reusable bag and delivered to their office located at 10 Davids Drive Hauppauge, NY 11788. Big Wins At Homecoming The Bulldog community came out in full force to support the varsity football team during the annual Lindenhurst Union Free School District homecoming festivities. The events began on Oct. 18 with the middle school pep rally. Studentathletes from all teams showed their Lindy Pride, donning green and white and cheering from the bleachers. The homecoming fun continued into the evening as the high school pep rally brought together all sports teams, the marching band, dance teams and the cheerleaders to

further illustrate a unified Lindenhurst. To conclude the high school pep rally, homecoming queen Sofia Petri and king Eric Hines were announced to the loud applause of their fellow schoolmates. The student council and athletic department coordinated the weekend’s activities. The parade on Oct. 19 began at Fireman’s Park, made its way down Wellwood Avenue and ended at Lindenhurst Middle School. Each class float represented a different Disney theme park. The freshman class float reflected

“Hollywood Studios,” the sophomore class depicted “Animal Kingdom” and the junior and senior classes portrayed “Epcot” and “Magic Kingdom,” respectively. At half time, there were special performances from the school’s marching band, color guard, cheerleading squads and dance team. At that time, it was announced that the sophomore class won the competition with their beautiful float. In the end, the Bulldogs reigned victorious as they beat West Islip Lions 14-0.

BRAIN CHALLENGE - Harding Avenue students participated in Hollyrock Entertainment’s Brain Challenge assembly. The students were asked various trivia questions to test their knowledge on anti-bullying in a fun and educational game show way. Harding student displayed great knowledge about anti-bullying and how to be inclusive of all children. This assembly was definitely a big success!
