Pa l - O - M i n e Equestrian is a comprehensive therapeutic equine program that uses horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for individuals with disabilities and for other vulnerable populations that was founded by Lisa Gatti. Located at 829 Old Nichols Road in Islandia, Pal-O-Mine grew from having two programs, eight horses and 80 students per week to 11 programs, 25 horses and 400 students per week. This organization sits on eight acres, with a 20-stall barn, handicapped accessible bathrooms, a new 100’ x 120’ indoor arena with stateof-the-art footing and a rider hoisting system, and three outdoor riding arenas. Individuals of all ages are welcome to take part in the programs they offer. They operate with five full-time employees, 35 independent contractors and 80 volunteers a week. Their riding instructors have experience with the following diagnoses: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Sensory Processing Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Neurological Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, Genetic Disorders and Emotional Disturbances.They also offer group programs, individual lessons, corporate workshops and a program specifically designed for military members. In honor of Veteran’s Day, Pal-O-Mine wants you to know just how they can help those who have served in our military, along with those who are still serving our nation. For more than four thousand years, horses have been an integral part of warfare. Today, horses are still playing an important role in war, this time in the recovery of military veterans who have suffered emotional and/ or physical injuries. Pal-O-Mine Equestrian is an EAGALA Designed Military Program.This designation asserts that EAGALA Certified Professionals working with the military have specialized training and experience in the military community. Sessions at the farm are action, not talk and they offer individual, group and family sessions. Did You Know?

Large school buses are not equipped with seat belts, but that doesn’t compromise their ability to transport students safely to and from school. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that school buses are designed differently than passenger cars and light trucks. As a result of their unique design, as well as their size and weight, school buses distribute crash forces differently from other vehicles, utilizing a different kind of safety restraint system that is effective at keeping passengers safe. This system is known as “compartmentalization.” The NHTSA says the interiors of large buses protect children without seat belts because of closely spaced seats that have energy-absorbing seat backs. This compartmentalization will keep children from being forced out of their seats during an impact. However, in the United States, small school buses, or those with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less, must be equipped with lap or lap/shoulder belts in all seating positions.

In recognition of “National Red Ribbon Week” from Oct. 26-30, students throughout the Lindenhurst Union Free School District took part in age-appropriate activities that reinforced this year’s theme, “Be Happy. Be Brave. Be Drug Free.” The event kicked off when the Lindenhurst Community Cares Coalition invited

community members to join them as they decorated the village with large red bows. During the week, students demonstrated their spirit and commitment to making healthy choices by participating in a series of designated mini-themed activities assigned to the school days such as wearing wacky socks to school

to “Sock” it to drugs, or donning super hero gear to illustrate that students have the power to say no to drugs. At Lindenhurst Middle School, students took part in the week by creating drawings and writing poetry reflecting the Red Ribbon theme.

Wreaths Across America Deadline Dec. 1 The Lindenhurst High School National Art Honor Society is raising funds for Wreaths Across America. A wreath can be sponsored for $15 and will be designated to a fallen soldier. All orders can be made through www. WreathsAcrossAmerica. org/NY0088P. The following ID numbers are required on each order so that the wreaths will be delivered to the

Long Island National Cemetery on Wellwood Avenue. The Location ID number is NYLINC and the Group ID number is NY008P. Orders will be taken until Dec. 1. On Dec. 19, National Wreaths Across America Day, the members of the class will place the sponsored wreaths on the graves of the fallen soldiers, as will numerous volunteers throughout the country.

This is the sixth year that Lindenhurst High School students have supported the cause. Last year, more than 200 wreaths were sponsored. This year, they are hoping to surpass that impressive number. All are encouraged to sponsor at least one wreath so as to demonstrate gratitude to the fallen heroes.
