KiDS NEED MoRE 7th Annual Halloween Party Kids Need More, Long Island’s premier 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of children, families, and young adults coping with cancer and life threatening illnesses, held its annual Halloween Party at The American Legion Post 1120 80 Herbert Ave Lindenhurst. Well over 200 people attended who are struggling with life-threatening illness. They were treated a day with smoking cauldrons, decorations, light show, face painters, photo booth, spooky fizzy drink station, food, soft drinks and the spectacular DJ Eddie Orihuela spinning the music while the kids

and their families enjoyed games, prizes and lots of fun together. The hall was generously donated by the American Legion. Commander Victor Diaz said, “that is what it’s all about serving the community, giving a place where people can come together and celebrate life.” The Halloween Party, was free of charge just like all KiDS NEED MoRE programs & services that are provided year round thanks to the generous donations of wonderful caring individuals and businesses and the support of dedicated volunteers right here on Long Island and Metro area. Lindenhurst Champions Lindenhurst Middle School students were honored at the first Breakfast for Champions celebration of the 2019-20 school year. The monthly event was coordinated by middle school educator Kathleen Curran and held on Oct. 22.

In its 22nd year, the annual breakfast was held at the Lindencrest Diner and honors students who exemplify Lindy Pride at the middle school. Students are nominated by teachers for a variety of reasons and are recognized publicly with

certificates of merit in front of proud parents, teachers and peers. “This is one of my favorite events because we get to celebrate great kids who make our work so much better,” said Principal Frank Naccarato. “They are our Lindy Pride.”

Protecting The Planet, One Pail At A Time Payton Lewis, a second grade student at Deauville Gardens West Elementary School in the Copiague School District, is doing his part to help save the environment and spark a green movement within his school district and community. What started as a recycling effort for Lewis has transitioned into

educating his peers. Lewis has launched his first initiative in the Copiague School District: Payton’s Planet. The first recycling pail is located in the faculty lounge at the Copiague Middle School and encourages faculty and staff to recycle their bottles and cans. Lewis, along with his mother Shakira, will pick up

the bottles each Friday. The funds collected will be used to purchase additional pails, which they hope will become a staple throughout the school district. Lewis wants to keep working to encourage others to save the planets, no matter how big or small their efforts may be.

VARSITY CLUB HELPS PAINT IT PINK - During breast cancer awareness month, the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School varsity club organized its annual pink pumpkin fundraiser to raise money for breast cancer awareness in October. This year, Hicks Nursery of Westbury, Best Market and Stop & Shop of Amityville donated pumpkins to help with the cause. The varsity club members painted and decorated the pumpkins pink and added inspirational words and phrases. This year, the club raised more than $200 to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Hundreds walked to support the fight against Alzheimer’s and raise funds for the 50,000 Long Islanders living with the disease at the second annual “Alzheimer’s Walk in the Park” hosted by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) and the Town of Babylon. The walk took place at the AFA-Town of Babylon Respite Care Relief Park at Babylon Town Hall. The walk raised more than $30,000 to support services for Long Island families impacted by Alzheimer’s disease, as well as research toward better treatment and a cure. AFA is currently funding Long Islandbased research projects at Stony Brook University, NYU Winthrop Hospital and the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research. “We’re extraordinarily
