Farmers Market At Spirit’s Promise Equine Rescue Spirit’s Promise Equine Rescue has announced they will host a Farmers Market on Saturday, October 2 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to support local businesses, shop vendors and take a tour of the farm, meet the animals and learn more about what they do at Spirit’s Promise
Equine Rescue. A twohour line dancing class will also be available. Cost is $5 per person for entry and the tour for members of Spirit’s Promise Rescue. Pal-O-Mine Equestrian Open House Proved a Wonderful Family Event for Long Island On September 12, 2021, Pal-O-Mine Equestrian, Inc. (www.pal-o-mine.org, Islandia, NY), a private, not for profit organization providing a comprehensive therapeutic equine program using horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for children and adults with disabilities, recently held its annual Open House. The weather and day could not have been more perfect. Under a beautiful sky, attendees numbering almost 500, enjoyed scheduled tours and demonstrations, a scavenger hunt, games, children’s activities, music and raffles. There were donkey cart rides, natural horsemanship and cattle lassoing demonstrations, mini horse dress ups, hugs with “Olaf “the chicken, cowboy games, and pumpkin painting. Pal-O-Mine CEO and founder Lisa Gatti said, “It was an incredible event,
which was not only great fun for everyone, but also an opportunity for us to raise awareness of the vital programs we provide children and adults with disabilities. As we dive into another unpredictable fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Heart Association, a global force for longer, healthier lives for all, urges people to take time to nurture their body and mind for better overall health. “After the past several months disrupted many of our typical routines, this fall is a great chance to reset and resume a more consistent work, school and family schedule. United Way of Long Island recently launched ‘Ride United’ to help local residents access transportation to receive the COVID-19 vaccine through the rideshare service Lyft. The program is part of United Way Worldwide’s Ride United Vaccine Access Campaign, which addresses unmet transportation needs for individuals and families. Preservation Long Island’s Endangered Historic Places List for 2021 includes seven sites and one district facing a variety of threats from demolition and overdevelopment, to a lack of municipal funding and support for historic preservation in communities throughout our region. Important historic places across Long Island are threatened by a variety of adverse conditions, from outright demolition to a lack of appreciation for their historic value, or the inability to develop sustainable longterm plans for preservation and stewardship. Preservation Long Island (formerly the Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities), established the Endangered Historic Places Program (EHPP) with the goal of raising region-wide support for historic places facing precarious circumstances. “The program offers Long Islanders an opportunity to advocate for preservation in their communities while learning how to use tools like landmark designation, tax incentives, and public outreach,” said Alexandra Wolfe, Preservation Long Island’s Executive Director. “Our program partners receive priority technical assistance from our professional staff and their listings are featured on our website and social media”. The pandemic did not have a negative impact on the public response to the open call for nominations issued last November. “This year marks the largest number of nominations received in a single program year since the establishment of the program in 2010,” said Sarah Kautz, Preservation Long Island’s Director of Preservation and Advocacy. A total of 18 nominations were submitted for the 2021 program year from communities across Long Island. A panel of Preservation Long Island staff and trustees, as well as experts in architecture, historic preservation, and other related fields selected the properties based on three key criteria: overall historic significance, severity of the threat and impact the EHPP listing will have on efforts to

The Lindenhurst Union Free School District is pleased to announce Lindenhurst High School senior Alyssa Wronski and 11th grader Lauren Walker were accepted to perform in the NYSSMA All-State Winter Conference from Dec. 2-5 in Rochester. Alyssa Wronski was
selected as an Alto 1 in the mixed chorus, as well as, an alternate for the band, and Lauren Walker was selected as an alternate clarinet player for the band. The students were among the thousands of students who auditioned for the honor last spring at solo and ensemble festivals
throughout the state. “Once again, we are very proud to recognize these two outstanding musicians,” said Director of Fine and Performing Arts Jon Trapani. “This is a tremendous achievement and honor for our students, teachers and district.”

Helping Hand Rescue Mission(HHRM) is a local non-profit organization that is located at 225 Broadway in Huntington Station, but serves people all over our island. Their mission is to improve the spiritual and temporal conditions of the children, families and people of the communities they serve by providing excellent service to all who come, whether they be rich or poor, high or low social status. They are here to love, to serve and to give.

Helping Hand Rescue Mission provides Thanksgiving food boxes and turkeys for families so they can cook up their special meal and have it together. In 2020, they served over a thousand families with Thanksgiving food boxes and frozen turkeys that were donated and funded by wonderful churches, businesses, organizations, and families. They believe an enormous part of gratitude is giving back, and they’re so thankful to be able to provide with their community, for their community!

MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER - Long Island will again unite in the fight against breast cancer with two Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks this year, on Sunday, October 17 at Jones Beach and Saturday, October 20 on Main Street in Riverhead. Both events will be held in accordance with CDC and NY State guidelines to ensure the safety of all attendees. Last year’s walk became virtual events due to the pandemic. Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among women in the U.S. In New York, the American Cancer Society estimates 17,540 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and 2,510 will succumb to the disease. Nationwide, 2,650 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021. The American Cancer Society is the nation’s nonprofit leader in the
