We hope that is understood as the time now approaches for these temporary tents and structures to come down. This Lindenhurst Village Board remains committed to the growth of our existing Downtown businesses, future businesses, and will continue to look for ways to mutually support them, and the direction we have planned for the Downtown. We need to get back on track with our focus on the Downtown Master Plan, continue to work with the Chamber of Commerce and other community/business groups to bring new events to our Downtown, and continue the growth!

Restaurants and local businesses, and even we here at Village Hall, can now welcome patrons inside. While some changes that were made can safely be maintained throughout the rest of these summer months, such as some outdoor seating areas, most

The Lindenhurst Village Board would like to take a moment to recognize the enormous revitalization of our Downtown Business District – before, during, and in the wake of the COVID-19 Pandemic. When our Downtown Master Plan was developed, there was no section that covered “Global Pandemic Contingency Plan”. However, thanks to the efforts of many – residents, business owners, and our team at Village Hall – Lindenhurst stayed strong, continued to grow and flourish, and our Downtown is now more vibrant than ever! When the Pandemic hit our Lindenhurst community, our lives forever changed. We lost loved ones; we had health scares; we had to “zoom” into new ways of doing business and existing socially; and local restaurants and businesses had to think outside the box so their businesses would not fail. As usual in our greatest times of need, Lindenhurst rallied, and offered help and support to these restaurants and businesses. Early on, the community bought gift cards and placed on-line and take-out orders, while the Village worked

Additionally, the high school added the AP Capstone diploma program from the College Board and the district implemented CSE chairpersons at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Furthermore, the district introduced bilingual guidance counselors at the secondary level, mental health professionals districtwide, a director of special education and pupil personnel services and an assistant superintendent for elementary curriculum and instruction to bring more consistency to the elementary buildings. When asked about Giordano, Board of Education trustee Michael DiGiuseppe said, “He’s the most caring human you’ll ever meet.” Trustee Mary Ellen Cunningham added that Giordano, will “bleed green” for the district. “We are grateful to Mr. Giordano for going above and beyond

As a friend and as a leader, he will be missed.” As superintendent, Giordano oversaw the implementation of significant advancements in the district such as the introduction of the Lindenhurst Academy for middle and high school students, the dual language program for students in kindergarten through second grade and increased early intervention services. The district’s ABA program expanded, as well as its course offerings, which now include American Sign Language, among others.

Daniel E. Giordano, superintendent of the Lindenhurst Union Free School District for the last eight years, has announced his retirement, effective June 30, 2022. “The job of the superintendent is extremely important,” said Giordano. “Because I have such great respect for this board of education, I believe that the right thing to do is to allow them the maximum amount of time to fill the position.” Giordano began his career in Lindenhurst in 1997 as an assistant principal at Lindenhurst High School. After serving in that role for five years, he was appointed principal in 2002. In April 2014, the board of education unanimously appointed Giordano to become the district’s superintendent of schools, a role he assumed officially in July of that year. Board of Education Vice

MTA Unveils Tour Package On Tuesday, June 29th, LIRR President Phil Eng held a press conference in the Lindenhurst Downtown to announce the MTA Long Island Rail Road’s new “Long Island Brewery Tour” package. This escorted tour package includes discounted round-trip rail and bus transportation, beer tastings at Sand City South in Lindenhurst and Great South Bay Brewery in Bay Shore, and a stop at Patchogue for shopping and dining. Tour dates are Saturday, July 31 and

On Saturday, June 26th, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey joined the Town of Babylon for a small ceremony dedicating the marina at Gilgo Beach as the “Congressman Pete King Marina.” The marina will serve as a reminder of his work, particularly the substantial efforts

CONSTRUCTION OF SOLAR CARPORT COMPLETED - Pictured here is a view of the Solar Carport from the LIRR platform. The Village of Lindenhurst is excited to announce that the construction of a 362kW Solar PV Carport at the LIRR Commuter Parking Lot has been completed. This state-of-the-art, renewable energy solar carport project is part of the Village’s Energy Solutions Project in partnership with Johnson Controls, a leader in energyefficient technology. The partnership is creating opportunities for the Village to produce clean,
renewable energy at various Village-owned facilities, and the production of solar energy at the Commuter Lot is a key part of this sustainability commitment. Once PSEG completes the hook up to the grid, the solar panels on the carport are expected to generate enough electricity to power about 50 homes and will reduce the Village’s carbon footprint. Trustee Patrick Pichichero said, “This is an ideal location because
the sun is unobstructed here, and it will also offer our commuters the added benefit of vehicle protection in inclement weather. I believe it is incumbent upon us in Village Government to utilize solar technology, transitioning us away from fossil fuels, and creating a positive impact on the environment. We are proud to be taking these steps to achieve local environmental goals, at no cost to our taxpayers.”

On Thursday, July 15th, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey honored Karen Vassiliou, of Lindenhurst, for her selection as Legislative District 14 Healthcare Hero of the Year! Karen was born and raised in Lindenhurst, and knew from an early age that she wanted to grow up to help people. Prior to COVID-19, Karen served in Good Samaritan Hospital’s cardiac telemetry unit, however she began work with the neuro step down unit in March of 2020. This transition made her one part of an amazing team of hospital staff that worked to convert medical floors and telemetry floors to Intensive care units to help accommodate the needs of the community during the pandemic, much of which was done by utilizing team nursing and working extra twelve hours shifts for
