Rebuilding Together Long Island (RTLI) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that is an affiliate of the national organization, Rebuilding Together. RTLI works yearround with their focus on keeping people safe in their home, as well as making sure that they have safe access into their home. While most of their clients are elderly, they will help anyone who meets their income guidelines and classify as low-income with limited assets. Additionally, they have a special program to help our deserving veterans in need. As a way to thank them for their service, they created the Hero Home Improvement Program, which aligns with their mission of repairing homes, revitalizing communities and rebuilding lives.

This organization performs repairs including carpentry, electrical, plumbing and home modifications (including wheelchair ramps for the physically challenged), weatherization, installation of smoke alarms, back and front yard clean-ups and more. Since 1992 they have provided repairs to over 2,600 homeowners in need at a current pace of over 150 projects annually within Nassau and Suffolk. There are many ways that you can become involved with RTLI, whether that be individually or as a company! Corporate sponsors are a huge help to the organization and it can benefit your company greatly as well. Corporate sponsors are companies that make the decision to fund a RTLI project for someone in need. Their employees will be able to participate in hands on work with the project they sponsor so their company can
have the chance to take part in a team building and community leadership opportunity. When they become a corporate sponsor, companies will get to see immediate positive impact on the life of a senior, veteran, disabled individual or a family in need, while demonstrating their company’s commitment to community service and improving the quality of life right here on Long Island. These sponsors will also get acknowledged on the RTLI website, in their quarterly newsletter and on social media. Additionally, if you are a business professional and are interested in getting involved with Rebuilding Together Long Island, the opportunity is available. RTLI is now interviewing business professionals to become an integral part of their Advisory Board and help advance their mission, whether it be through financial contributions, in-kind donations, networking capabilities or another way. Lastly, this organization is looking for people to fill the following volunteer positions: Crew Members, Electricians, Plumbers and Home Visitors. It has been Dr. Singhal’s life-long passion to study medicine. Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst Scholarship Awards Dinner relaxation. Nicholas Hager is this year’s Class Valedictorian. Nicholas has been a member of the Key Club, Rotary’s Interact club, Science club, a volunteer at Good Samaritan Hospital and a the LI Soccer Referee. His passion is running and he is captain of the Boys Varsity track team. He credits running with teaching him how hard work and perseverance lead to success. Nicholas plans to attend SUNY Buffalo and wants to be a meteorologist. Jubak-Heuwetter Memorial Key Club Scholarships Monika Orzelowski has been an member and officer of Key Club since freshman year. She performs with the high school marching band, Odyssey Acapella Group, is in the Tri M Music Honor Society and the Thespian Troupe. She discovered her passion for theater when she was cast in a school play where she studied Polish, her family’s native language. She has since earned the highest possible grade on her Matura Polish Basic Exam demonstrating proficiency in the language. Monika plans to study Theater Arts.
Dana Storm plans to study nursing at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue. She has been an active member and officer of the Key Club since freshman year. She has earned the Girl Scouts Silver Award, was selected for the school’s Peer Leadership program serving as a mentor and positive influence for younger classmates. Dana has been a dependable volunteer for our village’s community organizations by helping at street fairs and festivals. Michael Cagigas has been a dependable member of the Key Club assisting our club with food drives, children’s holiday breakfast and reading to young people at the library. He has been a support to his family in caring for his special needs brother. Michael plans to study nursing at SUNY Farmingdale. This year’s group of students came right to the top of the pack. We wish them success and are very proud that they will represent Lindenhurst and our club as they embark in their studies.

May 9th was a special evening for the Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst, its five scholarship winners and their families. The club has awarded over $450,000 to graduating seniors since its founding in 1950. The Tony Lazio and Larry Troiano Memorial Scholar-ships are named for early club members who worked feverishly at the club’s annual Steak Fry to raise money for the scholarship fund. The William Jubak Memorial and Richard Heuwetter Memorial Key Club Scholarships are awarded to Key Club members to honor William Jubak, the first Key Club ad-visor at Lindenhurst High School and Richard Heuwetter, a past Lt. Governor of the Suffolk West division. Lazio-Troiano Memorial Scholarships Cesar Bravo will be attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his goal is to be a chemical engineer.
