Counting Chickens “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” ~ John Lennon If there is one thing we have all learned throughout our lives, it is that there are only so many aspects within our control; and even those few are questionable, at best. We can go through each day with a clear picture as to what we would like our life to be, but the reality is that this is the only true reality we know. The rest is mere wistfulness. This is why it is so important to appreciate each and every moment, those people we are fortunate to have in our lives, and to be grateful for the small miracles which surround us always. It’s difﬁcult, to be sure, when you feel overwhelmed by life and whatever obstacles it might throw your way; but it takes such a minimal effort to stop

for a moment and appreciate a sunrise, a sunset, a butterﬂy, a blossom … anything, really. My column last week touched on the concept of leaving your day - or at least a portion of it - to chance, to not making a point of scheduling every second, to disconnecting from the socalled “obligations” of phone calls and e-mails and text messages, to refrain from mindlessly scrolling through your social media feeds … to simply experience life as it was designed to be, in the ﬂesh, ever present. I received quite a bit of feedback on this topic, with many sheepishly admitting they are guilty of precisely this on a regular basis. Several even went so far as to make a point of saying they wanted to try my experiment, even if just for a few hours. I’m curious to hear how it went, if any followed through.

Did you feel empty without all the chaos and manic energy surrounding you, pushing you forward from one selfimposed task to the next? Or was it somewhat fulﬁlling, perhaps allowing you a muchneeded breath of fresh air? Sometimes, in literally taking that breath, we can recapture a large piece of ourselves that we tend to lose to the daily grind. It grounds us, reminding us of the important things in life. And what is more important than ﬁnding happiness in the mundane, in making the most of our time, in savoring the memories before they have had a chance to fade ... Nothing, so far as I can tell. There is no fault in having aspirations and dreams; just remember that these days we are living presently are the stuff that dreams are made of as well.

July’s Charity of the Month is:

Coastal Steward Long Island is a local non-profit that is dedicated to restoring and preserving Long Island’s coastline through education, community action and raising public awareness. They hope to foster a caring connection between Long Island residents and their shoreline to create future generations of coastal stewards. CSLI has led beach cleanups in their local communities for over a decade, which has helped prevent the contamination of our beaches. Thanks to their volunteers and sponsors, they have removed over 200 tons of trash from the shores of Long Island! On Sunday, August 12th, they are hosting their 2nd Underwater Beach Cleanup. This will be held at Centennial Beach in Port Jefferson starting at 9 a.m. If you love our oceans and want to help keep our coastlines clean, bring your friends and family to help clean up the beach. Also, if you are a certified scuba diver, you can bring your equipment and join those who will go below the surface and clean the beach. Lunch will be provided after the clean up, courtesy of Port Diver. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to

CSLI also runs programs for camps, schools and any other interested groups that include activities such as shellfish hatchery tours, marine life identification, plankton identification under microscopes, use of the interaction presentations at the Marine Stewardship Education Center and touch tank presentations. They are always looking for more volunteers and are currently looking for people to help in the following areas: beach cleanups, planting oysters, data collection, maintaining tanks, releasing into the harbor and office work. 11. Since July 23rd, 1978, Plaintiff has been under the impression that the Boat Berth was part and parcel of those lands and that fee title was conveyed to Plaintiff. 12. Since July 23rd, 1978, Plaintiff has cultivated, or improved the Boat Berth premises and has protected the Boat Berth premises with an enclosure. 13. Since July 23rd, 1978, Plaintiff has maintained the Boat Berth in the following ways: a. Plaintiff paid the real estate taxes on the Boat Berth since 1978. The tax bill is in the Plaintiff’s name and sent to the Plaintiff’s house. Exhibit “C” is the tax bill for 91 91 East Riviera Drive and the Boat Berth; b. Plaintiff paid the mortgage and utilities associated with the Boat Berth; c. Plaintiff enclosed the Boat Berth with a fence; d. Plaintiff stored materials and boats on the Boat Berth; e. Plaintiff watered, mowed and maintained the lawn and planted grass and bushes on the Boat Berth; f. Plaintiff docked boats and tied them to the Boat Berth; g. Plaintiff openly used and enjoyed the Boat Berth. Title to the Boat Berth 14. This action was precipitated by the Plaintiff’s contemplated sale of 91 East Riviera Drive, including the Boat Berth. 15. In preparation for sale, Plaintiff’s attorney, Gerard Glass, Esq., reviewed and ordered a title search. 16. The title search revealed that the above title to the Boat Berth in fee was owned by deed from Defendants, Vito Palazzolo and Elayne Palazzolo (the “Palazzolos”), who previously owned 91 East Riviera Drive, Lindenhurst, which Deed was last recorded on March 8, 1966 in Liber 5921 Cp. 561. Exhibit “A” contains the Deed. Exhibit “D” is the title company’s last owner search. Other Interested Parties 17. The Palazzolos are interested parties who may claim to have some estate or interest in the disputed Boat Berth area described above, which belongs to Plaintiff. 18. It is obvious the Palazzolos intended to convey title to 91 East Riviera Drive, Lindenhurst and the Boat Berth. But did not by mistake. 19. However, the Palazzolos have not made such claim, nor have they ever had any contact with the Plaintiff. 20. Indeed, the Palazzolos cannot be located and are believed to be deceased. 21. Based on the public records from the chain of title search, the Palazzolos are the only parties that might have a claim on the estate, or interest in the real property which is the

(NAPSI)—For too many workers in the U.S., a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work doesn’t ring true. That’s especially the case in certain sectors of the economy including construction, food service, agriculture, janitorial, retail and hospitality. Too often, employers mistakenly or intentionally deny workers the wages to which they are legally entitled, such as the minimum wage and overtime. That’s where the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division comes in. The agency enforces federal labor laws. If it investigates and ﬁnds that an employer failed to pay at least the minimum wage and overtime, it can recover unpaid wages on behalf of workers. The Wage and Hour Division wants to make sure those wages are quickly handed over to the workers who earned them, yet ﬁnding workers can sometimes be a challenge. But there’s now a new online tool called Workers Owed Wages. It’s available in English and Spanish and allows workers or their

advocates to ﬁnd out— through a set of user-friendly questions—if they are owed wages currently held as the result of an investigation. To use the Workers Owed Wages tool, visit http://

On Sunday, June 10th, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey attended the Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony for Troop 2014’s Kyle McCarthy. The ceremony took place at the American Legion Post in Lindenhurst and was attended by the new Eagle Scouts’ parents, friends, elected ofﬁcials or their representatives, the Suffolk County Police Department’s First Precinct and Troop 2014’s leadership. Kyle McCarthy, in addition to recently achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, is a wellrounded, communityminded individual. He is a member of the West Babylon Fire Department

and the Suffolk County Police Department’s First Precinct Explorers, a student at St. John’s University and an intern with Legislator McCaffrey’s office. “It was special being at the Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Kyle McCarthy,” said McCaffrey. “Kyle is a fine young man and is exactly the kind of person we can all be proud of here in the Town of Babylon. With young people like Kyle, our future continues to be bright.” An Eagle Scout’s service project is the crowning achievement of a candidate’s journey to Scouting’s highest rank. The project must be one that benefits the
