For One Day Every person needs to take one day away. A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future. Jobs, family, employers and friends can exist one day without any one of us, and if our egos permit us to confess, they could exist eternally in our absence. Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us. ~ Maya Angelou I have always been a fan of the above quote, feeling its sentiment to be one we would all do better to embrace from time to time. One day. How difficult can it be to truly remove oneself from our surroundings and instead become immersed in the peace and tranquility of utter respite for one continuous 24-hour period? Turns out, much more so than anticipated.

I have never been one to take vacation days too liberally, so when I decided to make it my mission to piece together a five-day “weekend” leading up to the 4th of July, it was with a feeling of entering unchartered territory. How to fill these five days from morning ’til night, to schedule hour after hour of fun. Schedule fun, you say? Perhaps that was where I went wrong. It’s funny, I generally ﬂuctuate between moving manically from one task to another, barely coming up for air, to spending an entire day doing what can only be adequately described as vegetating. There is rarely an in-between mode. Given five days to play with, I spent the better part of two going full speed ahead, and the others, well - recovering from said adventures. Come time to return to work, and I was just about ready for another minibreak.

I often look at others’ vacation photos and admire how they seem to never come up for air, to always be fitting in one more cultural outing, a dinner with friends, a tourism stop in some city or another. Relaxation? That’s a foreign word for another day; certainly no time for that during the course of limited “free” time we each hold onto like a precious commodity.

Irony noted, of course. Try it yourself. Take one day, and attempt to leave it open, free of any scheduled tasks but the ones you choose to engage in on a whim. Remove yourself completely - no phone, no e-mail, no contact. Start with an hour. See how it feels. Build from there. Who knows, you might just reach the end of the day feeling completely refreshed and reinvigorated. Or bored out of your mind. No harm in finding out either way.

Mr. Vitiello’s resignation has resulted in a vacant seat on the district’s board of education. FIRST PLACE - The GU12 Lindenhurst Strikers team clinched 1st place in the Champion Division of the LIJ league. They only had six goals scored against them the entire spring division, and they scored 20 goals. Most of these girls have been playing together since they were 5-6 year olds and have grown into a highly competitive team that constantly support and encourage each other. Krystal Marie Will of Lindenhurst has graduated from Hofstra University with a Degree in Early Childhood and Childhood Education and a minor in Psychology. She plans to teach Elementary Education. Krystal is a member of the Honor Society of International Literacy Assoc. and the Honor Society in

Education. She will return to Hofstra this fall for her graduate studies. Last summer, Krystal volunteered a month in Africa teaching English to orphan African children, ages 2 to 6, where she picked up the language of Swahili. However, we must remember to take care of our shoreline and preserve the natural beauty that surrounds us. Throughout the month, I will present various ways that you can help those at Coastal Steward Long Island to preserve, educate and take action! Coastal Steward Long Island is a local non-profit that is dedicated to restoring and preserving Long Island’s coastline through education, community action and raising public awareness. They hope to foster a caring connection between Long Island residents and their shoreline to create future generations of coastal stewards. CSLI has led beach cleanups in their local communities for over a decade, which has helped prevent the contamination of our beaches. Thanks to their volunteers and sponsors, they have removed over 200 tons of trash from the shores of Long Island! They have also been restoring shellfish since 2000. More than 500,000 adult shellfish have been released into Port

Jefferson and Mt. Sinai Harbors to date. They wish to establish a self-sustaining population of oysters in our harbors. As a non-profit that operates 100% by volunteers, Coastal Steward Long Island is always taking volunteers. If you would like to help keep our island home to some of the most beautiful and top-rated beaches in America, then consider volunteering with CSLI! They are looking for volunteers to help with beach cleanups, to plant oysters, to collect relevant data, to maintain tanks, to release into the harbor and to perform office work. This action is to clear title pursuant to RPAPL §1515 to the Boat Berth which Plaintiff has exclusively used for more than 37 years. 3. In addition, this action seeks to claim a right of adverse possession to the Boat Berth property, pursuant to RPAPL Article 15. 91 East Riviera Drive and the Boat Berth 4. On July 23rd, 1978, 91 East Riviera Drive was purchased by Plaintiff and Bruce Kay (“Decedent Partner”) from Miguel and Delores Broullon. Exhibit “A” includes the April 10th, 1980 deeds. Exclusive Ownership and Possession of the Boat Berth 8. Between July 23rd, 1978 and April 10th, 1980, Plaintiff and his Decedent Partner (or his Administrator) were the exclusive owners in fee and in actual exclusive possession of 91 East Riviera Drive and in exclusive possession of the Boat Berth. 9. Since April 10th, 1980, the Plaintiff has been the exclusive owner in fee and in actual exclusive possession of 91 East Riviera Drive and in exclusive possession of the Boat Berth. Adverse Possession 10. Since July 23rd, 1978, Plaintiff in title has been in actual possession of the Boat Berth under a claim of title, has held the same exclusive of any other right under written instrument and has been in hostile, open and notorious and actual possession of the Premises continuously for more than ten (10) years prior to the commencement of this action, and such possession continues to the present time. 11. The tax bill is in the Plaintiff’s name and sent to the Plaintiff’s house. Exhibit “C” is the tax bill for 91 91 East Riviera Drive and the Boat Berth; b. Plaintiff paid the mortgage and utilities associated with the Boat Berth; c. Plaintiff enclosed the Boat Berth with a fence; d. Plaintiff stored materials and boats on the Boat Berth; e. Plaintiff watered, mowed and maintained the lawn and planted grass and bushes on the Boat Berth; f. Plaintiff docked boats and tied them to the Boat Berth; g. Plaintiff openly used and enjoyed the Boat Berth. Title to the Boat Berth 14. This action was precipitated by the Plaintiff’s contemplated sale of 91 East Riviera Drive, including the Boat Berth. 15. In preparation for sale, Plaintiff’s attorney, Gerard Glass, Esq., reviewed and ordered a title search. 16. The title search revealed that the above title to the Boat Berth in fee was owned by deed from Defendants, Vito Palazzolo and Elayne Palazzolo (the “Palazzolos”), who previously owned 91 East Riviera Drive, Lindenhurst, which Deed was last recorded on March 8, 1966 in Liber 5921 Cp. 561. Exhibit “A” contains the Deed. Exhibit “D” is the title company’s last owner search. Other Interested Parties 17. The Palazzolos are interested parties who may claim to have some estate or interest in the disputed Boat Berth area described above, which belongs to Plaintiff. 18. It is obvious the Palazzolos intended to convey title to 91 East Riviera Drive, Lindenhurst and the Boat Berth. But did not by mistake. 19. However, the Palazzolos have not made such claim, nor have they ever had any contact with the Plaintiff. 20. Indeed, the Palazzolos cannot be located and are believed to be deceased. 21. Based on the public records from the chain of title search, the Palazzolos are the only parties that might have a claim on the estate, or interest in the real property which is the subject of this litigation, and that is extremely unlikely. 22. No personal claim is made against any third party herein upon any cause of action brought under Article 15 of the RPAPL, except such parties as may assert a claim adverse to the claim of the Plaintiff as set forth herein. 23. Upon information and belief, none of the parties interested in this action are

Last week we asked you to think about developing an idea that would contribute to a personal funeral service - which would have the greatest meaning to you and your family for your loved one. We stated that it did not matter whether you were planning a traditional funeral with a wake and church service or whether you were planning a direct cremation or direct burial with a memorial service at a later date. We feel from all our experiences those who take the time to think about a funeral service which recalls the joy and comfort the deceased brought forth into you and your family’s lives begin the mourning process with a much better focus. Pictures of times gone by are a wonderful reminder of a person’s contributions to joy and happiness. Letters written by friends co-workers and family also remind you of the joy the deceased brought into your hearts. Although flowers contribute beauty and are an integral part of the funeral process - instead of flowers you may wish to ask friends and family members to contribute pictures or a written story to the funeral service. Some of you reading this article may also wish to consider bringing pictures or a written story to a funeral instead of sending flowers, the family would greatly appreciate your efforts. You may wish to have one or several people deliver a eulogy. With consultation with the clergy/minister the eulogy can be delivered at the church during the funeral or at the memorial service. It can also be delivered at the funeral home the night before the funeral. Because of the difference in the funeral mass and funeral service, it is preferred that the eulogy for Catholics be delivered in the funeral home the night before for several reasons, the most important being the length of the eulogy. It is extremely rare that a Protestant church would have more than one funeral service on any given day. Whereas, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church often has two, three or up to four funeral Masses in one day, not including the three scheduled masses everyday. The sheer numbers and the desire to accommodate all the families in the parish preclude lengthy eulogies. You would not want to postpone your funeral because another family took 45 minutes to eulogize a member of their family. Think about it, come talk to us and we will help you.
