This organization performs repairs including carpentry, electrical, plumbing and home modifications (including wheelchair ramps for the physically challenged), weatherization, installation of smoke alarms, back and front yard clean-up and more. Since 1992 they have provided repairs to over 2,600 homeowners in need at a current pace of over 150 projects annually within Nassau and Suffolk. After featuring a powerful testimonial last week, I’d like to feature another testimonial this week to show just how much of an impact the work of this organization has on the Long Island community. One thankful Long Island resident that has received help from RTLI said, “Your organization is truly a blessing to people like me who have no one and no finances at all to ever cover all the fixings. You’ve made it possible for me to have some peace of mind so I can still be able to stay in my home, the only “roots” I know.”
1) Volunteer. They are looking for volunteers to work hands on with a crew performing home repair work. Individuals do not have to have specific handyman skills, training is available. All volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Additionally, they are looking for a licensed Plumber or Electrician to volunteer their time and skills to help on specific projects. Lastly, they are in need of home visitors to walk through the homes of needy individuals for a safety inspection. 2) Sponsor a Project. RTLI allows corporations to sponsor a project so they can see a positive impact on the life of a senior, veteran, disabled person or a family in need. This is a great opportunity team building and a community leadership opportunity for your employees. Why not demonstrate your organization’s commitment to community service and improving the quality of life on Long Island! 3) Attend a Meeting. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at their office located at 208 Route 109, Suite 204 in Farmingdale at 10 am. 4) Donate. Consider making a donation to their organization. Funding is a continuous requirement to support their efforts. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. The money you donate stays on Long Island to help our Long Island neighbors! Champions Recognized Lindenhurst Middle School students were honored during the recent June Breakfast for Champions celebration coordinated by middle school educator Kathy Curran. Held at the Lindencrest Diner, the breakfast, now in its 21st year, identifies students who exemplify
Lindy Pride at the middle school. Students are nominated by teachers for a variety of reasons and are recognized publically in front of proud parents, teachers and peers. The last celebration for the year recognized students who were part of the Student Advisory Council, National Junior
Honor Society and for Lindy Pride. With proud parents and teachers looking on, students received their certificates of merit from Principal Frank Naccarato who shared with the group the various examples of leadership and generosity that resulted in their selection.

It has long been our philosphy, and we have stated it in this column numerous times, that FUNERALS ARE FOR THE LIVING. The deceased, as sick as he or she was, has no more pain or suffering but only peace. We, the survivors, are left to grieve, mourn, and cope with our severe loss. The funeral, whether it is a traditional full service funeral or a direct cremation or burial with a memorial service, should be a personal tribute to the life of the deceased, which helps you remember the joy and comfort the deceased brought forth in this world to you and your family and friends.

was recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction and Joseph an AP Scholar with Honor. They each possessed the necessary leadership skills to hold high rankings within their respective extracurricular activities. Nicholas served as vice president of the National Honor Society and captain of the school’s crosscountry team while Joseph served as the president of the Debate Club and vice president of the Film and Interact clubs. Now that the two have graduated from Lindenhurst High School with a New York State Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors and a Mastery in Mathematics and Science,
they will go on to explore their passions in college. Nicholas will attend the University at Buffalo in September, where he will pursue a major in mathematics through the University at Buffalo Honors College. He hopes to one day utilize his degree toward a career in meteorology. Joseph will attend University of Rochester in September, where he hopes to study neuroscience and volunteer in the Friends of Strong volunteer program at the Strong Memorial Hospital. Joseph hopes to one day be a doctor. The district congratulates Nicholas and Joseph on all of their future endeavors.
