Eastline Theatre Brings Free Shakespeare To Parks Across Long Island With Romeo & Juliet EastLine Theatre will present their rollicking take on Shakespeare’s classic romance under the summer sun at locations across Long Island. Romeo & Juliet will feature original live music in a family-friendly production. This is EastLine’s first foray into touring after losing their Wantagh home in March of last year. Looking for a remedy to a year without theatre, EastLine hit on Romeo & Juliet, “After spending a year apart and inside, we wanted something that would bring people together under the sky,” says director Danny Higgins, “it had to be something accessible and it had to address the grief we have all just experienced; that after such a monumental separation, even a simple touch feels like a gift.” Scheduled performances are: 6/26 - Gerry Park, Roslyn - 2PM 7/11 - The Harry Chapin Rainbow Stage at Heckscher Park, Huntington - 6PM 7/16 - N. This closure prioritizes patron and staff safety while maximizing constructino progress and cost savings. The building will reopen in September, utilizing the existing children’s department as “express library” space while work continues in the building. The express library will have computers for public use, fax/scanner and copy machines, as well as a circulating collection of materials. Staff will be working this summer at pop-up library events, and off-site locations such as the Moose Lodge, adn the Rainbow Center. Staff will also be working at the Kellum building and the Suffolk Cooperative Library System to re-catalog and tag over 125,000 physical items with radio frequency indentification tags (RFID). We will have procedures in place to still loan out WiFi hotspots, Chromebooks and Museum Passes throughout the summer to patrons. Kiwanis Club Awards Scholarships
KIWANIS CLUB AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS - The Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst is proud to announce its five scholarship winners from the class of 2021 of Lindenhurst High School. National Art Honor Society. His major area of interest is technology, specifically cyber security. Christopher will attend SUNY Polytechnic to study computer and network security. The winners of the LazioTroiano awards are: Leanna Birsner has been vice president of Build for Robotics, club officer of the American Sign Language club and a member of the National Honor Society. Leanna is an altar server at Our Lady of Grace R.C. Church. She has studied dance and worked as a dance teacher. She has been an asset to her family in assisting with her mother’s health care needs, inspiring her to pursue a career as a doctor, studying brain and cognitive sciences. Leanna wants to ensure that patients receive the best care both medically and ethically based upon her experiences of watching how doctors have worked with her mother. Leanna will attend the University of Rochester. Kevin Herbst is a member of the National Honor Society. Beginning in his freshman year, he played volleyball and views his participation in the sport as giving his life direction. Kevin plans to attend Stevens Institute of Technology to study quantitative finance. While at Stevens, he hopes to participate in its Division Three volleyball team. Aliya John is the
valedictorian of the graduating class at Lindenhurst High School. She has been vice president of the Key Club, secretary of the Tri-M music honor society, a member of the National Honor Society, secretary of the Research Competitions Club. She has volunteered at Good Samaritan Hospital and sings in the Youth choir at Our Lady of Grace R.C. Church. She is interested in medical research having already participated in projects at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Marine Studies Enrichment Program at Western Suffolk BOCES, and presented her original research to the Long Island Science Congress. Aliya plans to study medicine at SUNY at Stony Brook and one day hopes to work at the United Nations. For over 50 years the Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst has focused its fundraising efforts largely on building its scholarship fund in order to grant students awards over the four years of their college studies. Up to and including the Class of 2021, it has awarded over $470,00 to 279 recipients. The Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst is part of an international global organization dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time. The Charity of the Month for June is
Bethel Hobbs Community Farm can assist with, such as planting, weeding, harvesting, working in the greenhouse and property maintenance. Individuals and groups are able to volunteer at the farm and community service hours can be given. If you are interested in volunteering, please visit their website and fill out their Volunteer Waiver Form and the contact the farm directly at 631.774.1556 to find out when you can start! Due to the pandemic, volunteers must bring a pair of gloves. It it suggested that volunteers bring sunscreen and any food or drink they may need. Lastly, the farm is in need of some repairs; they need a new roof on their barn, plumbing assistance and fountain repair. If you or someone you know would be willing to donate their time and skills to assist in any of these projects, it would be such a blessing to their farm. Please contact Annie at 631.774.1556 if you believe you can be of help. The farm would like to give a huge shout out and thanks to Parkline Asphalt for donating their time and skills to lay out a nice smooth roadway from their parking lot to their wheelchair garden for those in wheelchairs or unsteady on their feet!

Bethel Hobbs Community Farm is a non-profit organization with a rich history. It is an 11 acre farm, located at 178 Oxhead Road in Centereach, and is ran entirely by volunteers. This community farm grows and harvests an average of over 50,000 pounds of fresh, organic produce, which then gets donated to over 11 food pantries / soup kitchens. They also offer CSA Memberships, educational programs, they host community events and they have a seasonal farm stand! If you live nearby the farm and would like to sign up for their Summer and or Fall CSA program, you can. Their crop shares are an easy way to guarantee farm fresh veggies for you and your family all season long. By joining their CSA program you will gain a connection to their farm and know exactly where your vegetables are coming from. You will receive a weekly share of nutritionally dense produce grown right in Centereach, while supporting your own neighbors. Their organically grown vegetables are harvested and packed the same day you receive them, cutting time and travel dramatically from field to fork. Members of their Summer CSA can expect to receive a wide variety of summer vegetables, including but not limited to, summer squashes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers and a diverse array of greens. Members of their Fall CSA can expect to receive an assortment of winter squashes, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, carrots, beets, as well as an assortment of greens. Additionally, anyone is welcome to stop by and shop at their farm stand every Saturday from 10 AM - 3 PM, which started on June 12th and runs through October 10th. You will find organically grown produce and every purchase made will support the farm and their mission. Looking to show your support in another way? Volunteers are needed!
