Of Energy and Evolution “The energy of the mind is the essence of life.” ~ Aristotle They say that what you put out into the universe in the form of energy, you receive back tenfold. In some manner, at some point in time, life cycles back around to pay us the karma we are supposedly owed. Most often, this is associated with the negative end of the spectrum; rarely are the positive applications of this theory every truly recognized and appreciated. I have often looked to those who seem the most consistently content and have wondered what it is that makes them able to sustain such a healthy sense of optimism and an inner peace that radiates outwardly into the universe. Simply put, they are

genuinely happy. They savor those aspects of life which many of us often take for granted. They make it a point to appreciate each and every moment, and to pay it forward in the manner in which they interact with others. To me, these are the types of individuals we should all strive to surround ourselves with, each and every day. Any opportunity to associate with a positive, breath of fresh air-type persona should be welcomed with open arms; there is no such thing as too much sunshine. In the end, it makes the inevitable storm clouds which manifest along the way that much more tolerable. Of course, this concept is not so simple as mere happiness by association. True bliss comes from within, as

who we are and who we desire to become slowly transition toward being one and the same. They say people don’t change, but I wholeheartedly disagree with that sentiment. We each possess a unique capacity to peel back the layers en route to uncovering infinite unknown qualities and characteristics as we continue to evolve over time. And change we do, each and every day, as our interactions with others, the circumstances we are faced with and our growth as human beings develop. There is no end to this evolution. We are a species built on progress. Why not begin with our own respective psyches? With a bit a time and effort, perhaps we, too, can one day be worthy of this admiration once only reserved for others.

The Association for Mental Health and Wellness (MHAW) is a non-profit behavioral healthcare organization that serves more than 3,000 people each year among 33 diverse communities throughout Suffolk County at four sites. Two of these sites are based in Ronkonkoma, one is based in Riverhead and the last is based in Yaphank, where its Suffolk County United Veterans project is based. The organization was formed in 2014 with the merger of three successful organizations in Suffolk County; the Mental Health Association in Suffolk County, Clubhouse of Suffolk and Suffolk County United Veterans. Services include a comprehensive range of personcentered recovery and wellness-driven programming for youth and adults who are affected by psychiatric disabilities, trauma and complex health conditions, providing people, along with our U.S. Veterans, with opportunities to heal and work toward their recovery. Four goals from Nick Berneri made the difference as the Lindenhurst Bulldogs of the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) shut out New York Surf Long Island of the Westchester Youth Soccer District (WYSD), 4-0. This Boys-Under-14 State Open Cup final for the Howard Rubenstein Cup was played on June 2nd at Stringham Park in LaGrange. Now living in Kentucky, Mr. Rubenstein was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the LIJSL. Joey Blackton and Matt Star are Lindenhurst’s captains and Sean Ronessi got the shutout in goal. Lindenhurst coach Jason Garguilo explained, “We started to trust one another and move the ball and that led us to the championship.”

Lindenhurst High School Student James E. Moller has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at his Court of Honor on June 2nd, 2018 held at the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge # 1421 of Lindenhurst. James is the son of Erik and Robin Moller and the brother of Analiese. James started out in West Gates Avenue Pack 348, and is grateful for all the support he recieved there, and continued his journey in Pack and Troop # 1421. To earn the highest rank

of Eagle, a Scout must earn 21 merit badges and organize an Eagle Scout project where they can demonstrate the skills of leadership and community service to an organization other than Boy Scouts. In his journey to Eagle, James achieved 32 merit badges and earned the Gold and Bronze Eagle Palm awards, he served as Den Chief for other Scouts and Patrol Leader in his own Troop. He had his Ordeal and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow

Lindenhurst students participated in the Nassau County Victory Challenge Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged, held recently at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale. Athletes and student buddies participated in a series of activities and races including the 100-meter race and the discus throw. Faculty, parents, aides and administrators cheered the athletes as they worked

to achieve their goals. The student-athletes, who wore tie-dyed green T-shirts to showcase their pride in the district, joined in the spirited competition against each other and other schools from across Long Island. The games were coordinated for Lindenhurst by teacher Karen Parpounas and Courtney Whalley, chairperson for the Elementary Committee on Special Education.
