While flowers certainly add beauty and a wonderful aroma to wedding ceremonies and receptions, there are other reasons behind their inclusion in such festivities. In ancient Rome, brides carried or wore flower garlands because the Romans believed flowers signified hope, fertility and new beginnings. In the Middle Ages, brides did not carry flowers, but rather strong-smelling spices and herbs. The rationale was that the herbs and spices would drive away bad luck and evil spirits. Flowers also served another practical purpose. In eras when bathing was a luxury, different flowers and herbs helped mask body odors. It wasn't until the Victorian era, when flowers were used to symbolize romantic love, that they became part of wedding ceremonies, according to Modern Weddings magazine.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 4 OF 2020 DECLARATION OF EMERGENCY IN THE VILLAGE OF LINDENHURST WHEREAS, on or about December 31, 2019, the first reported case of severe phenomena was reported in China, and by January 7, 2020, the virus was identified as a new coronavirus, COVID-19; and WHEREAS, the COVID-19 pandemic is in many ways a completely unprecedented situation, and as such, is an imminent threat to public health; and WHEREAS, on March 7, 2020 the State ofNew York declared a State of Emergency to allow New York’s government to respond faster by lifting regulations, as the number of coronavirus cases in New York rises; and WHEREAS, on March 12, 2020 the County of Suffolk declared a State of Emergency, which lifts some restrictions and provides powers including bypassing purchasing regulations, thus allowing the county to act more quickly; and WHEREAS, this event has caused hospitals to be overburdened; sickness to the population; the disruption of local supplies, and may result in personal hardships, selfquarantine and mandatory quarantine of infected people, and continues to pose a threat to the public health and safety; and WHEREAS, on March 13, 2020, two residents of the Town of Babylon tested positive for COVID-19; and as a result, on March 15, 2020, the Town of Babylon also declared a State of Emergency; and WHEREAS, on April 2, 2020, the Village Administration decided that the number of Village Vehicles, Machinery Equipment and Supplies, could not provide for the current threat upon public highways, streets and pubic areas within the Village proper, in the time necessary to provide for the health, safety and welfare of the public; and WHEREAS, on April 2, 2020, the Village Administration
WHEREAS, on April 2, 2020, the Village Administration declared that the number of employees within the Village proper is insufficient to meet this threat in the time necessary to provide for the health, safety and welfare of the public, without the use of outside contractors, seasonal employees and the implementation of emergency procedures; and WHEREAS, there exists a current danger to the health, safety and welfare of the public in the Town of Babylon and the Village of Lindenhurst due to COVID-19 and the lack of adequate emergency personnel, equipment and supplies to meet this threat within the municipality; and WHEREAS, as Mayor of the Village of Lindenhurst, I desire to declare a state emergency to ensure we have the tools to respond to COVID-19 and the Village’s needs more quickly and effectively; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the powers of local government, the Mayor of a Village within the State of New York is empowered to act in a situation such as this, in the best interest of the public and to provide for the·health, safety and welfare of the public, and; WHEREAS, New York State Executive Law, Section 24, Article 2-B, authorizes Mayor of a Village within the State of New York to act in a situation such as this, in the best interest of the public and to provide for the health, safety and welfare of the public, and; WHEREAS, New York State Executive Law, Section 24, Article 2-B, authorizes Mayor of a Village within the State of New York to act in situations such as that aforementioned and in accord therewith, to declare a Local State of Emergency.

Essential Staff Providing Care For Animals On Campus Amid Coronavirus (Covid19) Pandemic North Shore Animal League America’s Adoption Center is currently conducting adoption by appointment only. Our Adoption Team is contacting pre-approved adopters with a scheduled day and time to complete their adoption. The health and wellbeing of NSALA staff, volunteers, adopters, and the community remains our priority at this time. We currently have over 40 dogs of various ages and sizes on campus, as well as more than 100 felines, from kittens to older cats, all looking for loving homes. As always, the animals on the NSALA Port Washington campus are being well-cared for by our devoted staff. In addition to finding homes for more than 110 canines, some of whom were from our recent Mill Dog rescue (we saved 100 dogs and puppies from deplorable

How Does The New Coronavirus Affect You And Your Pets?
Pet owners can rest easy that there is no reason to believe that dogs or cats in the United States might be a source of infection for the new coronavirus disease — COVID-19 — or cause its spread according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. And so far, according to the CDC, there have been no reports of pets becoming sick with COVID-19. This coronavirus appears to be primarily transmitted from human to human. As a pet owner, you may have heard of canine coronavirus, an intestinal infection in dogs, especially puppies, and feline coronavirus, which can cause feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). These types of coronaviruses have been around for quite some time and are not associated with the current outbreak. To protect yourself, your family, and possibly even
your pets, from this new coronavirus, you should follow these precautions: • Frequently wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water (use hand sanitizer with more than 60 percent alcohol if you can’t wash) • Avoid close contact with people who are sick—stay at least three feet away • Cover your mouth/ nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw away the used tissues and wash your hands • Stay at home if you are sick • Sanitize often-used surfaces in your home and office If you do become sick with COVID-19, how then should you care for your pet? The CDC recommends that you restrict contact with pets and other animals just as you would with people. Ask another member of your
household to care for your pets while you are sick. If you must do it yourself, wash your hands before and after you interact and wear a facemask. Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Telehealth Is Available Through Metro Physical & Aquatic Therapy Telehealth is a new resource available through Metro Physical & Aquatic Therapy for anyone that needs therapy and wishes to receive the treatment in the comfort and safety of their own home. How To Clean When Faced With A Shortage Of Supplies In light of concerns about COVID-19, various health organizations have issued specific instructions on how to maintain personal safety and cleanliness. These recommendations involve using common household products to sanitize homes, offices and public spaces. As people take such precautions, many are stocking up on extra essentials - resulting in shortages. Everything from hand sanitizers to paper towels may be hard to find on grocery store shelves, leaving some to wonder what they can do to remain safe without sanitizers? The Environmental Protection Agency states that coronaviruses are some of the easiest types of viruses to kill because they have an envelope around them that enables them to merge with other cells and infect them. If that protective coating
can be disrupted, the virus can’t do its job. For those having trouble finding well-known cleaning agents, these alternatives may suffice. Hot Water And Soap The reason handwashing is at the top of the list of sanitizing methods is because it is so effective at washing away viruses and bacteria. Friction from scrubbing with soap and water can help break the protective envelope, states the EPA. Soap and water can clean all surfaces in a home, especially when applying a little extra elbow grease. Hydrogen Peroxide As people clear isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) off the shelves, do not discount hydrogen peroxide. The CDC says household hydrogen peroxide at 3 percent concentration can deactivate rhinovirus, the virus that causes the common cold, within six to eight minutes of
contact. Coronavirus is easier to destroy than rhinovirus, so hydrogen peroxide may be effective at combatting that virus as well. Natural items can be used for general cleaning, but have not been endorsed for use on COVID-19 disinfection. In lieu of shortages, white vinegar, baking soda pastes and citrus oils and juices could fill the void of chemicallybased cleansers for other home tasks.

Your Pre-Need Funeral Experts Fully Provisioned for the Handicapped Cremation is permitted by the Catholic Church. Many people choose to be cremated nowadays because of personal preference, or because it is less expensive, or for other personal or family reasons. These are all acceptable reasons, and the only reason cremation would not be permissible for a Catholic would be if it were being done as a way of making a public statement about not believing in the resurrection of the body, which is one of the tenets of our faith. Although cremation is permitted, the Church does have the clear preference that, whenever possible, cremation should take place after the Funeral Mass, so that the body of the deceased can be at the Mass. This is important because a human being is a body-soul unity, and therefore the body is an integral part of our personhood. It is the physical body that encounters grace through the physical signs of the sacraments: the body that was washed in Baptism, anointed in Confirmation, and nourished in the Eucharist should be present for the Funeral Mass. Nevertheless, if for some reason cremation does occur before the Funeral Mass, it is permissible to bring the cremated remains into church and have them at the Mass. Notice the term that is used: “cremated remains.” The Church asks that we use this term instead of the term “cremains”, as the Church feels that “cremated remains” is more dignified as a reference to the mortal remains of the Christian body. An aspect of cremation that is often misunderstood is that the final disposition of the cremated remains must be exactly the same as for a body. Cremated remains must be buried in the ground in a cemetery, be entombed in a niche in a mausoleum or some other appropriate structure in a cemetery, or be buried at sea. It is not permissible for Catholics to keep the cremated remains at home, nor is it permissible to sprinkle the ashes (in the ocean or over a field, for example), nor may the ashes be divided up and placed into jewelry (I’m not kidding about that... it’s actually an option in the funeral industry). The Catholic Church teaches that the same reverence and dignity that is given to a dead body must also be given to the cremated remains. Thus, just as one would not keep a body at home, nor divide up a body into pieces, so too with the cremated remains in an urn - there must be a proper final disposition for those remains. Please keep this teaching of the Church in mind if you are considering cremation for yourself or for loved ones, and please feel free to contact one of the priests if you have further questions about it.
