Maintenance dredge the area up to ten feet seaward of the bulkhead to a maximum depth of-4 MLW. Dredged spoil will be placed behind the new bulkhead. Establish a 690 square foot vegetated buffer that will be planted only with native species. Add a four foot by thirty foot gravel path with stepping stones through the buffer. The project is located at 839 Ocean Street (formerly 843 Ocean Street), Village of Lindenhurst, Suffolk County. SCTM# 1 03-253-100.05 (formerly 103-25-3-96). Why does NY State have such restrictive guidelines for animal hospitals?

We enjoy having you there too.

The NY State government has put detailed guidelines in place for all businesses, not just veterinarians. For example, medical facilities are required to screen patients before admitting them into the facility.

However right now we are required to follow guidelines issued by New York State that state “Curbside intake and pickup of animals should be used, wherever practical, to minimize the numbers of clients in waiting areas and exam rooms.”* Although that creates a lot of extra work for our staff, we are committed to complying with the NY State safety guidelines during the COVID-19 crisis, and to protect our client’s health and safety. *Exceptions can be made in situations like euthanasia

Are these still necessary? Restrictions are lifted on other things. By July 2020, restrictions like curbside check-in have helped reduce the number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 in New York State down from over 10,000 a day to below 1,000. At the same time we have seen infections rise dramatically in other states who had fewer restrictions.

Protect Your Pets With FRONTLINE AND HEARTGUARD

The government has lifted restrictions where it is essential to get other parts of the economy restarted, but we don’t expect to see change for a while on safety measures like curbside check-in that have been seen to be effective.

Curbside check-ins is inconvenient for you and creates a lot of extra work for our staff. It’s hard on all of us. We don’t get to see you like we used to.

BABYLON VILLAGE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE’S EASTER EGG HUNT! - On the morning of Saturday, March 27th, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey visited the Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce’s Easter Egg Hunt! The event included more than 30 Babylon Village businesses, who placed activity tables outside their stores and gleefully handed out Easter eggs to hundreds of eager children. The Chamber of Commerce did an excellent job in coordinating the event- complete with maps and volunteers standing ready to help throughout the Village. The pandemic took its toll on CFK, as it did on many, but they stayed aﬂoat and are thankful for the opportunity to continue to make a difference. Since 2005, CFK has given out more than 3 MILLION DOLLARS to help local Long Islanders. Here are some of the areas they’ve helped others ﬁnancially: Rent, Mortgage Payments, Oil Deliveries, Utility Bills, Food, Transportation To & From Hospitals, Co-Payments, Medications & Funeral Expenses. Contractors For Kids (CFK) is a non-profit organization, which was founded for the purpose of providing assistance to families in Long Island communities. Their goal is to assist children and their families overcome obstacles that have unfortunately changed or have impacted their lives through the sickness, injury or death of a child. They are committed to this cause and want to give hope and reassurance for the futures of Long Islanders. CFK was founded in 2005 by Kevin Harney and Alan Nahmias of Stalco Construction. Kevin and Alan, both long-time philanthropists, saw the growing need for financial assistance in our communities and knew that something more needed to be done. Through random acts of kindness, they were slowly changing the lives of others, however they thirsted to make more change so they decided to form this non-profit, Contractors For Kids. The Board of Directors, members, supporters and volunteers of CFK are all “Contractors For Kids.” They are all helping others and building futures for children and their families in need. Their organization runs on donations only and is volunteer based, they have no employees. One family at a time, they make sure that the financial hardship brought on by sickness, injury or death does not destroy an already hurting family. Whether it is to pay a phone bill or a mortgage payment, they want to be there to help. So how do you qualify to get help? It’s quite simple. If you can prove that you are struggling financially because of the sickness, injury or death of a child, you live on Long Island (in Nassau or Suffolk County), and you have filled out their Application For Assistance, they will get in touch with you to see how they can be of help! Legislative Intent. The Board of Trustees has determined that it is necessary to regulate the distribution and sale of food vendors who operate on a temporary basis at a fixed location that are not otherwise regulated by Chapter 129. Issuance of a permit for persons or organizations engaged in the above-mentioned activities is required for the protection and maintenance of the health, safety and welfare of the inhabitants of the Village. The Board of Trustees finds that this new section is reasonably aimed at achieving this goal and that the governance of the Village will be enhanced by enactment of the regulations set forth in this section. §174-2. Definitions. When used in this Article, the following shall mean: EVENT

OPERATOR The permittee or person who owns, operates, manages, controls or is otherwise in charge of a temporary food service establishment providing food services at an event, and who has been issued a permit by the Village Administrator or his designee. SPONSOR The person or organization that organizes, controls and manages the event at which a temporary food service establishment provides food service. TEMPORARY FOOD SERVICE ESTABLISHMENT An individual food service establishment operating from a booth, stand, vehicle, or cart, in a fixed public or private, indoor or outdoor location, at an event, where foods are stored, prepared or held for service to the public. A temporary food service establishment shall also mean a person who vends, dispenses or distributes pre-packaged or other nonpotentially hazardous foods from a container or other equipment approved by the Village Administrator or his designee that is carried upon his or her person at an event. §174-3. Permit Required. It shall be necessary for any individual or organization that wishes to operate as a temporary food establishment

Every applicant for a permit is required to submit to the Village Administrator or his designee a written application supplying under affidavit the following information at least ten (10) days prior to the time in which they wish to use the permit: that he is a citizen of the United States; that he has never been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor; state in detail the food they plan to serve; state the manner or means of conveyance in which said food shall be prepared; state the locality within which it is desired to carry on or engage in said trade, business or occupation, and the name of the person or persons, firm or corporation applying for such permit, specifying the residence of such person or persons or the residence of the persons composing any such firm or the principal place of business of any such corporation and the name of the officer, in the case of a corporation, upon whom process or other legal notice may be served and also the date(s) of birth of said person(s); and that he is a fit and desirable person and is capable of properly conducting the trade or occupation desired. Any required permits from the Department of Health shall be included as part of the application. §174-5. Standard of Review. On all applications to the Village Administrator for permits in addition to other specific requirements, the Village Administrator or his designee shall consider the health, safety, convenience and general welfare of the Village. The standards to be considered by the Village Administrator or his designee in making its determination of any matter under this chapter are whether the granting of the permit will be in harmony with the general purpose and intent of the chapter, in accordance with the comprehensive plan and design set forth in the chapter, to lessen congestion in the streets, to secure safety from fire, panic and other dangers, circumstances of the applicant to provide adequate light and air, to prevent the overcrowding of land, to avoid undue concentration of population, to facilitate the adequate provision of transportation, water, sewage, off-street parking, parks and other public requirements; and in accordance with reasonable consideration, among other

Any person, association, partnership or corporation violating any provisions of this chapter shall be guilty of a violation and shall be punishable by a fine of not less than $250 and not more than $1,000 for each violation, or by imprisonment not to exceed 15 days or a combination of both. §174-8. If any clause, sentence, paragraph, section or part of this article shall be adjudged by any court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, such judgment shall not affect, impair or invalidate the remainder thereof but shall be confined in its operation to the clause, sentence, paragraph, section or part thereof directly involved in said judgment. Validity. If any section, sentence, clause, or phrase of this law is held to be invalid or unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, then said holding shall in no way affect the validity of the remaining portions of this law. New Study Shows Transcendental Meditation Effective For Reducing Veterans’ Stress Veterans with posttraumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) who practiced the Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique showed significant reductions in symptom severity, according to a new study published in the Journal of Traumatic Stress http://doi.org/10.1002/ jts.22665. The study’s principal investigator was Mayer Bellehsen, PhD, director of the Unified Behavioral Health Center for Military Veterans and their Families in Bay Shore, Long Island and member. “Transcendental Meditation is a non-trauma-focused, easy-to-learn technique that was found in this study to improve PTSD symptoms, likely through the experience of physical rest,” said Dr. Bellehsen. “In contrast to commonly administered therapies for PTSD that are trauma-focused and based on a patient’s recall of past traumatic experiences, this intervention does not require extensive review of traumatic history, which some individuals find difficult to engage in. This intervention may therefore

be more tolerable for some individuals struggling with PTSD.” The randomized controlled trial assigned 40 veterans with documented PTSD to either the TM group or a “treatment as usual” control group. The TM treatment provided 16 sessions over 12 weeks, with twice-a-day daily home practice. PTSD symptom severity was assessed with the Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale for DSM-5, and patient self-report with the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5. The results showed large effect sizes, indicating a strong TM treatment impact in reducing trauma symptoms for both PTSD measures. Other facts associated with trauma, such as depression and anxiety symptoms and sleep problems, also showed a strong impact as a result of TM treatment. “This trial corroborates the findings of a large clinical trial published in The Lancet Psychiatry,” said Sanford Nidich, Ed.D., Director of the Center for Social-Emotional Health at Maharishi

International University Research Institute, and study co-investigator. “The current study further supports the effectiveness of Transcendental Meditation as a first-line treatment for PTSD in veterans. The availability of an additional evidence-based therapy will benefit veterans, both by offering them a greater range of options and by serving as an alternative treatment strategy for those who don’t want to engage in trauma-focused treatment or who aren’t responding to a previous PTSD intervention.” The authors pointed out in their research paper that TM may positively affect trauma symptom severity through the reduction of hyperarousal symptoms. Previous research has shown that the practice of TM decreases physiological responses to stressful stimuli. In addition, recent research indicates that TM may improve resilience and positive coping strategies, providing further benefit to both veterans and active military personnel.
