the Village will be holding a 3:00 p.m. service at the Gazebo in Lindenhurst Village Square Park. I ask all Lindenhurst residents to join me, to pause and say a prayer in memory of lives lost to COVID-19. Special prayers of thanks as well to healthcare workers for their courage in treating patients infected with the virus, and notably, to our Lindenhurst and North Lindenhurst Fire and Rescue Departments, EMTs, and medical technicians for their ongoing, selfless service to our residents. Let us also lift up in gratitude the many essential workers, such as people working in grocery stores, pharmacies, and take-out food establishments, who have kept services going. I also want to thank our essential Lindenhurst Village employees, in
particular our Department of Public Works staff who have diligently picked up our garbage & recyclables, and kept our roads safe throughout these trying times. I would also be remiss if I did not ask for special prayers for the soul of Village employee John Kehoe, who lost his life while serving the people of our Village during the pandemic.

By July 2020, restrictions like curbside check-in have helped reduce the number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 in New York State down from over 10,000 a day to below 1,000. Noelle Stanuch is a Smithtown resident who is fundraising for clean, safe and reliable water in sub-Saharan Africa for the second time through The Water Project, a non-profit organization. This organization provides reliable water projects to communities in sub-Saharan Africa who suffer needlessly from a lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation. For each gift you make to The Water Project, you will eventually receive a report that details the technology used, the location of the effort, the number of people it serves and photographs of the process and completed water project. “Can you imagine not having access to safe drinking water? Not having clean water to shower with? Not knowing if the water you cook with will make you ill? I can’t, but I
don’t take what I have for granted,” Noelle said. “There is a real issue in today’s society. We tend to not think about what we don’t live around or what we don’t see often. There are so many people suffering around the world and we need to help them.” There is a water crisis affecting women, children, families and farmers. Every day in rural communities throughout subSaharan Africa, there are millions of people that suffer from a lack of access to clean, safe water. Women and girls there are spending so much time fetching dirty water, which leads to illness and disease. Globally, 1 in 9 people still have no access to clean water, however, in the communities The Water Project serves, it’s 9 out of 9. “So many of us are fortunate enough that throughout this pandemic we not only
knew that we should wash our hands often, but we had clean water to do so. That is not reality for everyone. God has given me so many ways that I can help others! I want to make a change...I feel called to make a change. I’m excited to see if I can reach my fundraising goal and see where God leads me next. The Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst officially launched it’s 2021 Hometown Heroes Banner Program in partnership with the Town of Babylon offering residents the opportunity to honor service men and women with a commemorative banner to be displayed in the hamlets of North Babylon, West Babylon, Deer Park, Wheatley Heights, North Amityville, Wyandanch and Copiague. First introduced in the Village of Lindenhurst, the program has now expanded throughout Babylon where banners will be displayed on decorative lamp posts from Memorial Day to Veterans Day.
