T h e Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the organization’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,700 wishes throughout our country and multiple wishes have being granted on Long Island recently! These wishes have ranged from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck. Recently, many Long Island residents had their wishes come true. Below is a story about Patricia, who recently had her wish granted. You could be next! Patricia Bachmore is a 75 year old resident of Amityville. She wished for new furniture and thanks to the Long Island chapter of this national nonprofit, her wish was granted! Patricia has fostered and socialized rescue kittens and cats for years. Understandably, that took a toll on her furniture. Although the furniture was old and falling apart, she could not afford to replace it on her own because of her limited income. In December of 2020, The Twilight Wish Foundation granted her with a new sofa and kitchen chairs, which she wished for. In addition to her work with rescue organizations, Patricia is part of the Amityville neighborhood watch program and also works with the Town

Legislators McCaffrey and Donnelly Honor Local Firefighters On Saturday morning, March 13th 2021, Legislator McCaffrey took part in a ceremony at Babylon Town Hall giving thanks to two of Babylon’s bravest. Proclamations for saving life were presented to both ExCaptain Gerald Lucas of the Babylon Fire Department and Lieutenant McGraw of the West Babylon Fire Department for their roles in alerting and evacuating residents from two separate house fires. Ex-Captain Lucas, who has over 30 years of service with the Babylon Fire department, received his proclamation for actions taken on the evening of Thursday, February 25th, 2021. Lucas was out for a walk with his wife Nancy and dog Max when they came across a residential structure fire on Plymouth Street in West Babylon. Without hesitation, Lucas approached the home with a neighbor- where they were informed a person was still inside. He and the neighbor, while battling intense heat and flames, found a way into
the home and pulled the victim from the structure just as the West Babylon Fire Department was arriving on scene. Lieutenant McGraw performed his rescue while on duty with the Nassau County Police Department on the evening of December 18th, 2020. McGraw was on a routine patrol in the Hamlet of New Cassel when he recognized the distinct smell of a structure fire- and upon further investigation observed black smoke coming from a multifamily residence. He too approached the home, and was able to alert the inhabitants on the ground floor to the fire and helped multiple people escape before completing a search of the second floor. Simultaneously, McGraw alerted his fellow officers to the fire so that they may assist in evacuations, as well as alerted the Westbury Fire Department. Both Ex-Captain Lucas and Lieutenant McGraw proved that our volunteers are truly never off-duty. Also presenting proclamations at
the ceremony were Village of Babylon Mayor Mary Adams; Town of Babylon Councilmembers Antonio A. Martinez, Terence McSweeney, and DuWayne Gregory; and New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso. Legislator McCaffrey represents Suffolk County’s 14th Legislative District which encompasses the Village of Lindenhurst, Babylon Village, the hamlets of West Babylon and North Lindenhurst, portions of Copiague, North Babylon and Babylon’s barrier beach communities. Suffolk County Legislator, Tom Donnelly (17th LD), is a life-long resident of the district he represents. He is a 30-year veteran with the City of New York in 2017, serving three years as a NYPD officer in the 83rd Precinct and a decorated Lieutenant in the New York City Fire Department. Tom is still active as a volunteer after three decades of service in the Deer Park Fire Department.

Lola’s Pawfect Treats
Lola Triolo is a 10-yearold elementary school student who started baking and selling homemade peanut butter and apple dog treats last year during the COVID-19 shut down as a way to give back and learn responsibility. She
donates her treats, and a portion of her earnings, to the Islip Animal Shelter. Mayor Michael Lavorata said, “Lola & her Pawfect Treats are shining examples of selflessness and creative ways to give back to the community. Children like

Village Taxes Now Due Mayor Michael Lavorata reminds Village of Lindenhurst property owners that their 2021 Village taxes are now due for payment. Taxes may be paid without penalty up to and including April 1, 2021. Payments received after this date are late and subject to a 5% plus $2.00 penalty. Tax payments are only accepted in full – no partial payments will be accepted. Library Budget Vote and Trustee Election Tuesday, April 6, 2021 from 10:00 am – 8:00 pm at the Lindenhurst Memorial Library Residents of the LUFSD who are registered to vote with the Suffolk County Board of Elections can vote in person at the Library. Absentee ballot applications are available at the Library. Applications must be received by the Library Director at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. All absentee ballots must be received at the Library by 5:00 pm on April 6 to be counted. Persons designated by the Suffolk County Board of Elections as “permanently disabled” following provisions of election law automatically receive an absentee ballot and need not apply. There will be a virtual Budget and Trustee Information Meeting on March 23 at 6:00 pm. For the second year in a row, the proposed operating budget stays flat with a 0% increase. New York Blood Center (NYBC) announces a blood shortage in the region, one year after New York was the epicenter of the pandemic. Before COVID-19, donors could stop by community blood drives at convenient locations like high schools, colleges, and offices. It has been one
year since these groups had to cancel their blood drives due to COVID-19 and few have been able to resume these lifesaving events. NYBC currently has a 4 day supply of blood, which is well below what is needed by area hospitals. New York’s healthcare system requires 1,500
donations each day to treat patients ranging from trauma victims to newborn babies and their mothers to cancer patients. Donors with type O and type B blood are especially needed as NYBC currently has a 1-2 day supply of these blood types. “With thousands of New Yorkers getting
vaccinated each day, we are thrilled to watch our state recover from this catastrophic year,” said Andrea Cefarelli, Senior Executive Director at New York Blood Center. “As New York bounces back in strides this spring, we need everyone to make an appointment and donate blood to help save lives. While the

The Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst officially launched it’s 2021 Hometown Heroes Banner Program in partnership with the Town of Babylon offering residents the opportunity to honor service men and women with a commemorative banner to be displayed in the hamlets of North Babylon, West Babylon, Deer Park, Wheatley Heights, North Amityville, Wyandanch and Copiague. First introduced in the Village of Lindenhurst, the program has now expanded throughout Babylon where banners will be displayed on decorative lamp posts from Memorial Day to Veterans Day. “We are extremely grateful to Babylon Supervisor Rich Shaffer and Beautification Director Viscel Moore for working with us to bring the Hometown Heroes Banner Program to all residents of the Town of Babylon”, said Kiwanis Committee Chair Ralph Somma. “Special thanks to “Navy Moms” Carolyn Mormino and Jeanine Walther for their perseverance in getting the Hometown Heroes program to the Town,” he added. Banners cost $200 and display a picture of the service member along with his or her name, branch and years of service. Participants can choose among one of three veterans’ organizations where a portion of the proceeds will be donated. In addition to the banner, participants will receive a 4x6 print suitable for framing, a digital version for sharing on social media and the opportunity to share their Hometown Heroes’ story to the Lindenhurst Kiwanis website.
