BLOOD DRIVE IN MEMORY OF HELEN LAVORATA - Shahnaz Karim of Lockwood, Kessler, and Bartlett Inc. recently sponsored a blood drive in memory of Lindenhurst Mayor Michael Lavorata’s wife Helen Lavorata. Shahnaz said, “Two years have passed since the world lost this beautiful soul. I felt a blood drive was a wonderful way to remember Helen.” The pandemic has impacted many areas of life, including the availability of blood for emergency life-saving measures. Blood drives, like the one organized in honor of Helen Lavorata, are essential to replenishing the blood inventory. Mayor Lavorata said, “I am honored and so thankful to Shahnaz for sponsoring a blood drive in Helen’s memory. ROTARY CLUB MEETING - At a recent Rotary Club meeting, held at Goccia D’Oro restaurant, Deputy Mayor Maryann Weckerle spoke with Little Flower Shop owners Mary and John Frenna. Mr. Frenna is also a member of the Business Improvement District, the organization, along with the Village, responsible for the improvements to the holiday decorations in the Village. Deputy Mayor Weckerle and the Frennas discussed the success of the new decorations and the ongoing effort to improve the Village’s downtown, especially during the holiday season. Deputy Mayor Weckerle said, “It’s great to see our community enjoying the new decorations during the holiday season! Anna began her career in nursing as a nursing assistant in Central Massachusetts and went on to receive her LPN and RN degrees. Anna and her family moved to New York as an RN Special Project Coordinator working with residents and staff on improving residents’ experience from admission to discharge and working with facility staff and professional team in developing a resident center care environment. With an interest in enhancing her knowledge of long term care management, Anna returned to school Hunter College to earn a BSN. She later received her MSN/MHA from the University of Phoenix, Arizona, and has her BELS Certification. For the past five years, Anna has held the position of Director of Nursing Services at Meadow Park Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Flushing, Queens. The External Diploma Program offers adults 21 and over, the opportunity to receive credit for their life experiences, and earn a high school equivalency diploma without the challenge of taking lengthy timed examinations. EDP, is a competency based
program for students who are unable to attend classes or who prefer to work at home. Successful candidates for EDP include former ESL students, students who have been out of school for prolonged periods of time, or students who fare better without
