In regards to their IRIS program, IRIS stands for Immediate Recognition Increases Safety. This program is free and anyone can register for at www. afyi-iris.org (parents or guardians can register and enroll their child or dependent as a member and those who are over 18 years can register and enroll themselves). The program is dedicated to the safety of those on the Autism Spectrum and those with Neurological or Brain Disorders. This includes those with Alzheimers, MS, Intellectual Development Disabilities, Down’s Syndrome, Brain Injury, PTSD and others. IRIS provides 24 hour access to members emergency information and contacts through their emergency hotline.

Another part of their IRIS program is their communication app, which is available for free in the app stores. This app contains picture language and emojis, so ﬁrst responders can communicate easily with the individual. It also contains their 24hour emergency hotline information and the 5 Keys To De-Escalation. OLPH Knights Of Columbus #794 Raises Over $2,500 At Lindenhurst Christmas Market The Our Lady of Perpetual Help Knights of Columbus Council #794 took part in the Village of Lindenhurst’s KindlMarket Christmas Fair and raised over $2,500 in the span of 5 hours. The Knights raffled off gift certificates from the local restaurants and businesses along with gift baskets assembled by the Ladies Auxiliary to the Council and ran a 50/50. “We are so touched by the generosity of the Lindenhurst community,” said Grand Knight

Stephen Strigaro. “This event totally surpassed our expectations, and it could not have happened at a better time as we roll into the Christmas season for continued support of our charitable mission.” The money earned will be used to fund charitable efforts throughout their Columbian Year. “There is a resurgence of our Council’s community engagement driven by a growth in membership and strong relationships we formed

with the local businesses and associations, most importantly the Chamber of Commerce,” said Chancellor, Patrick Corcoran. “As Lindenhurst continues to mature and expand, we will work alongside everyone involved to support the community, and even add our own virtue to it as it continues!” The Lindenhurst Council is actively recruiting. Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey joined Dave Crowe of the Belfast Gastropub and other officials from the area to announce a new Lindenhurst tradition- a St. Patrick’s Day Parade! The festivities will take place on Saturday, March 26th, 2022. Former United States Congressman Pete

King will serve as the parades Grand Marshal. The push for the parade began with Dave and his team at Belfast, and grew to include a number of community members who connect with the Irish culture, particularly the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Babylon and the Lindenhurst Knights

of Columbus. Further, the Lindenhurst Chamber of Commerce has joined the campaign, as have local officials on all levels of government. Although Lindenhurst, known historically as “Breslau,” has strong German roots, the Village will surely identify as Irish come next March!

A sanitation crew from the Village of Lindenhurst recently met one of their biggest fans, twoyear old Angel. Angel’s grandmother, Melody, had contacted the Village to let them know how much Angel loves trucks, and how he waits eagerly by the window on pick-up days to see the Village garbage truck in action, and to wave at the crew. In response, the Village did what they do best -- go the extra mile! The Mayor & Village Board, Village Administration, and the Department of

Public Works jumped into action and conspired to give Angel a day he would always remember.

A Message From Lindenhurst Mayor Michael Lavorata

A mask mandate for shops and other indoor spaces in New York State took effect on Monday, December 13th to confront a surge in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations. Governor Hochul’s mandate requires masks to be worn in all indoor public buildings, unless the businesses or venues implement a vaccine requirement. The mask mandate will be in effect until January 15, 2022.

At this stage, Lindenhurst residents have no other choice but to comply with the Governor’s mask mandate. I am in favor everyone doing everything possible to keep ourselves and each other healthy. I am very impressed that many of our Lindenhurst residents have already gotten vaccinated and have taken common-sense steps to deal with this never-ending pandemic. Our local businesses, who

have already suffered so much already, are also working to keep the public safe. We are all feeling the effects of “pandemic fatigue”, but with the Delta and Omicron variants still very strong, we must be vigilant. Lindenhurst resident Nicholas Chester and U.S. Navy veteran crossed the finish line in the TCS NYC Marathon and raised over $2,600 for United Way of Long Island’s veterans programs. The nonprofit was named an Official Charity Partner of the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon, which took place on Sunday, November 7, 2021. Theresa A. Regnante, President & CEO of United Way of Long Island said this was the sixth year the notfor profit has been invited to join the race under Team Mission United. “United Way of Long Island is pleased once again to be named an official charity partner of the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon. We cheered on Nicholas and all of the members of Team Mission United on their journey to the iconic finish line as they raised important funds to benefit Long Island veterans.” Nicholas was encouraged to join Team Mission United by his employer and United Way sponsor National Grid. “We are honored to back Nicholas, as well as his team member and fellow employee Bryan Gray, also a U.S. Army veteran, for their tremendous efforts in support of fellow military members who have served
