The Lindenhurst High School National Art Honor Society is raising funds for Wreaths Across America. A wreath can be sponsored for $15 and will be designated to a fallen soldier. All orders can be made through www. WreathsAcrossAmerica.org/ NY0088P. The following ID numbers are required on each order so that the wreaths will be delivered to
the Long Island National Cemetery on Wellwood Avenue. The Location ID number is NYLINC and the Group ID number is NY008P. Orders will be taken until Nov. 15. On Dec. 14, National Wreaths Across America Day, the members of the class will place the sponsored wreaths on the graves of the fallen soldiers, as will numerous volunteers throughout the

The Cemetery of Lost Souls is a grass roots organization that gears up each year to create an elaborate Haunted House on the founder’s property, located at 350 Broadway in Massapequa Park. Every bit of money raised through their annual event (admission, donations, sponsorships, etc.) is given to a chosen charity. They have raised a lot of money over the years in donations alone and have donated to charities such as Autism Speaks, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Long Island Cares. This year they are bringing the community a new interactive experience with the second Lost Souls Walk-Thru haunt, new rooms, new scares and new thrills! Each event has been going great, with up to hundreds of guests each night! The remaining events will run on October 31 and November 1-2 from 7PM-11:30PM. On Halloween, their event will be kid-friendly! There will be no actors and walk through tours of their haunted house will be given. The chosen charity for 2019 is Melissa’s Wish, a nonprofit organization founded with the purpose of providing short term, nonmedical financial aid in the form of a grant to caregivers who are assisting those afflicted with a serious illness, injury or end of life event. In spite of the rainy day, the Lindenhurst Village Annual Halloween Family Fun day was a tremendous success. The Village offered a spook-tastic selection of
things to do -- pony rides, hay rides, music, and all types of games and candy -- there was something fun and freaky for everyone! The children were also
treated to free hot dogs and beverages, along with bagels, muffins, and sandwiches from South Shore Bagels, 322 West Montauk Highway.

Halloween is a favorite day for many children and even a number of adults. Modern classrooms might be technical marvels, but one less flashy learning tool remains as valuable as ever. Newspapers might not be as glamorous as tablets or other gadgets, but they are still an invaluable resource to educators and students. The following are seven ways in which newspapers in the classroom can benefit students. 1. Newspapers build vocabulary. Numerous studies have found that reading can improve youngsters’ vocabulary. Each day, newspapers are filled with fresh stories that can introduce kids to new words, helping them to strengthen their vocabularies and make them more effective communicators. 2.
