Voting is a privilege and a responsibility, so voters should familiarize themselves with the candidates and issues on the ballot in the weeks leading up to Election Day. In addition to national or statewide candidates and issues, voters should learn about local issues that may have a more direct impact on their daily lives. The more voters learn about the candidates and issues in advance, the more quickly they can cast their votes and get to work or return home.
Election Day gives voters throughout the United States a chance to participate in their government. The right to vote is something to cherish, as many people across the globe do not get a chance to elect the officials who govern their countries. While Election Day is an exciting time, voters may find it frustrating if they do not take steps to ensure things go smoothly when they head to the polls. The following tips can help voters prepare for Election Day. Confirm your polling location. Polling locations may have changed since last year, and voters who have moved in the past 12 months may now have to vote in a new location. Voters can contact their local board of elections or visit www.Vote411.org to confirm the correct polling locations for them to cast their votes. Voters should learn the hours when the polls are open so they do not arrive too early or too late to vote. Bring photo identification. Voter identification laws vary by state, but voters who want to avoid hassles or holdups may be able to do so by bringing current photo identification with them to the polling place. While such identification is not necessarily a requirement, voters who bring along a driver’s license or state identification card may get in and out of the polling place more quickly than those who do not.
Voting on Election Day is a privilege that voters should not take lightly. Taking certain steps in the weeks ahead of Election Day can make it easier for voters to cast their ballots.
Confirm registration. Voters can confirm that they have registered to vote by contacting their local board of elections in advance of Election Day. Sometimes voters’ names may not appear on the registration list when they arrive to vote, even if they previously registered. Poll workers can help voters who find themselves in such situations. But voters who want to avoid such hassles on Election Day can confirm their registration beforehand.

The Great Give Back: Lindy Creek Clean Up Lindenhurst Memorial Library is teaming up with local environmental nonprofit, Save The Great South Bay for The Great Give Back Day on Saturday, October 17th from 10 AM - 3 PM to conduct clean ups along the Neguntatogue Creek. Residents can visit the LIndenhurst Library on this day to pick up a set of gloves, bags, and pickers along with a map of an area in need of clean up. To maintain social distancing, all groups will be limited in size and work independently. Masks will be required. According to Library Director Lisa Kropp, “The Neguntatogue Creek is right in our own backyards. This is a great way to give back to our community and help highlight our local ecosystems. We are thrilled to be partnering with a like-minded organization.” Lindenhurst Creek Defender

Their Sustainability Team includes nearly a dozen library employees. Together this team has implemented a number of green initiatives including introducing digital receipts, donating its community garden produce to LI Cares this year during
the pandemic and offering a host of educational sustainability programming, such as the Race to Reduce Waste and the Sustainable Food Movement: a composting workshop. The Great Give Back is a community service initiative created by the Suffolk County Public Library Directors Association and the Suffolk Cooperative Library System, in conjunction with the Nassau Library System. The mission of The Great Give Back is to provide a day of opportunities for the patrons of the Public Libraries of New York State to participate in meaningful, service-oriented experiences. Losing Control
In your everyday life, you are in control of your daily routine, your plans for the future, finances, etc. As I have said in the past, when someone you love dies, not only does your loved one’s life change in the blink of an eye, but so does your life. One of the major changes that many people fail to recognize is the temporary loss of control over their own life. If you lost your spouse, you may lose control of your finances because you unexpectedly suffer a loss of income. You may lose control of your emotions. You temporarily lose control of your plans and goals in your life because you simply cannot imagine life without your partner. You lose control of your ability to sleep through the night. You become so overwhelmed you lose your sense of focus and can only focus on the simplest of deeds and tasks for extremely brief amounts of time. You get bombarded with requests for this paper or that form. Everybody needs something from you now. Your whole life seems to be out of control. And it is. You could not control what happened to your spouse. You cannot control the loss of income. Nor can you control requests from people. But you can control your response to all these problems. Take time. Do not make any hasty decisions. Do not let anyone pressure you into another life changing decision until you regain your sense of control over your life. You should take at least one year to decide to move out of your house. Focus on the small tasks. Get through one day at a time. Accept help from those who sincerely offer you help. When you cannot cope with all the details, sit down, close your eyes and rest. You will regain control of your life, but it will take time and it does become extremely frustrating at times. But little by little, you will regain control of all aspects of your life. Your life will be different but once again, it will be your life. It will probably take at least six to eighteen months for you to feel in full control again, but rest assured it will happen.
