The Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the foundation’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. This organization truly makes a difference in the lives of seniors nationwide. Often the elderly gets overlooked or they simply can’t seem to achieve their goals on their own. This is where Twilight Wish steps in. Judy was a local wish recipient from Kings Park. Her wish was to visit her mother in Rochester and take her to her favorite restaurant. Judy received round-trip plane tickets, a hotel stay, a car rental and a gift certificate to her mother’s favorite restaurant from this foundation! The process of applying to be a wish recipient is fairly simple. You can visit their website at www. twilightwish.org and click on the “Wishes” tab followed by “Request A Twilight Wish”. From here you can start the process. Applications can be submitted for yourself or on behalf of someone else. The foundation has a committee that meets on a monthly basis to review new applications and they determine the eligibility of the applicants and wish requests. If approved, the foundation will grant the wish as funding and resources become available (if they are not already available).

Incoming sixth grade students experienced their first taste of Lindy Pride as they attended orientation at Lindenhurst Middle School held on Aug. 27 and 28. The students and parents were invited to roam the halls so as to familiarize themselves with the layout of their new school. Principal Frank Naccarato gave a presentation in which he reviewed the school’s policies and expectations of the incoming class. Dr. Ailene Cavaliere, coordinator of instructional technology and chief information officer, also joined Mr. Naccarato at the podium and the two explained the details of the district’s 1:1 Chromebook initiative. Upon the conclusion of Mr. Naccarato’s presentation, the students and parents dispersed to enjoy a bagel breakfast provided by the school’s PTA and to participate in guided tours led by members of the school’s National Junior
Honor Society. “I remember what it was like to be in their shoes,” said eighth grader Cecila Sesto.
“We are here to help alleviate some of their fears and offer them support so that they have a successful year.”

Community relations specialist for the Long Island Rail Road, Chrisann Fabio, was recently welcomed to speak to students in grades kindergarten through five at Daniel Street Elementary School in the Lindenhurst Union Free School District. Fabio spoke as a representative of the Operation Lifesaver
program which provides age-appropriate railroad safety education to students across Long Island. During her visit, she shared with younger students the rules of railroad safety with the help of the program’s mascots, Sly Fox and Birdie. Older students explored facts about trains
as well as the dangers of trespassing and track safety. “Our goal is to educate students on how to remain safe around trains,” said Fabio. “It is important that when they see tracks, they think train and exhibit caution. We have seen the movies in which characters are safe
walking down the tracks into the tunnel, or the cartoons where someone is climbing to the top of the train car. As adults, we know that certain behaviors on or near a train are inappropriate and dangerous. It is imperative that young people recognize those behaviors as well and avoid them.”
