Lindenhurst Village Summer Camp The Village is pleased to announce that, with modifications (including a reduction in enrollment by 50%), they will once again be sponsoring the annual Summer Recreation Camp at Village Park. The tentative start date for the camp will be July 6, 2020. The camp is open to Lindenhurst children who are eligible to attend the Lindenhurst School District. The Village plans to offer campers a summer of fun, and are determined

Scanlon’s Traveling Salon

Scanlon’s Traveling Salon is run by Eileen Scanlon, a fellow New Yorker whose mission is to cultivate a community based on kindness, respect and equality. Eileen has been a NYS Licensed Cosmetologist for over 30 years, however she has experience in many other industries as well. She has worked with corporate America, non-profits, academia and local grassroots organizations. She is wellrounded and truly one of the kindest people I have ever met. In 2010, Eileen began volunteering, offering free haircuts to people in need. Eileen felt so overjoyed by helping others look and feel beautiful for free while working within various types of socio economic communities, that she eventually began her very own traveling salon. With its catchy slogan, Where Style Comes To You, Scanlon’s Traveling Salon now serves an abundance of people across Long Island. Some of the communities that Eileen serves are: the home confined and vulnerable, hospice, group homes, sober houses, assisted living communities and those who are differently abled. She always travels to her customers so they can enjoy her services in the comfort of their home or living space. Her goal is to provide each and every one of her clients with a warm, happy, positive and empathetic experience before, during and after each visit. She also incorporates her love of social justice and advocacy into her business practice by using only vegan products. Unlike your average hair salon, Scanlon’s uses fresh new sanitized tools and capes on all her clients. She now also offers one on one personal service with gloves and masks, and will wash and sanitize any area which was touched during the visit. Additionally, if you would like to have your hair service done outside, Scanlon’s will gladly honor that request. “Everyone’s safety and comfort is our primary concern”, says owner Eileen Scanlon. Scanlon’s business model was always unique and special, however with everyone adjusting to the new normal, her services are becoming more and more desired. A young woman who loves Eileens services mentioned, “Being able to call up an experienced local and friendly hair

dresser during times like these where I am not comfortable going to a salon is so comforting. She will come to my house and give me a hair cut outside if I want. It doesn’t get much more refreshing than that.” Mary D. from Massapequa, a long-time client of Eileens also has only good things to share; “I live with a crippling disability and getting out is a challenge for me, especially in inclement weather. I’ve been using Eileen’s service for about 7 years now and I would not go back to a salon anytime soon. If I ever need anything from the store before she arrives I simply call her and she will pick it up for me. I live alone and if a light bulb goes out or I need to reach something in a closet that requires my mini ladder I feel comfortable asking Eileen to reach it for me. She is also looking for a donation of a minibus (which can be used) for the non-profit traveling salon and her outreach work for the homeless. Scanlon’s vehicles are all easily identified because they are decorated with salon decals and sponsorship information from local businesses. The status of existing contracts with vendors also must be considered before business owners can begin new relationships with new vendors. • Safety: The safety of employees and customers is another factor to consider

before reopening. Some staff members who have been laid off or furloughed may not be comfortable coming back to work, while customers also may be hesitant to be out in public. •Post-pandemic consumers: Various economists have noted that the COVID-19 pandemic is likely to change consumer habits. While everyone is itching to get out and about, consumers have been forced to adopt new habits while social distancing, and economists predict many of those new habits will become permanent. Small businesses may have to cater to consumers who now prefer products be shipped to their homes, which may require small business owners to more fully embrace e-commerce. Now is a great time for small business owners to determine if they’re ready to make that transition. If not, delaying reopening until e-commerce capabilities are stronger may be the wisest choice for small business owners. Every small business owner wants the economy to reopen. But each small business owner must consider an assortment of factors before deciding to reopen.
