#READY2GOSAFELY - The Long Island Contruction Industry has been busy during the quarantine. They hammered away at helping, hospitals, first responders and the community. Then they came together, people from all the Long Island construction associations and various groups, to share information and work on gathering supplies and methods for a safe roll out. However, Paws of War will at times arrive at their homes with no warning, knock on their door and tell them that they have some items to drop off for them. “You always see that tear in their eye” says Robert. “That someone actually cares enough to come to their home and bring them something is very special.” A lot of these veterans suffered for many years, all of which now have lifelong disabilities due to their service to our country. Paws of War feels that at the very least they can bring them pet food to give them a helping hand during these tough times. Additionally, Paws of War has partnered with Cambridge Catering, who is providing hot cooked meals free of charge to our veterans. Hank, a Smithtown resident and veteran, was someone that Paws of War helped. When they arrived at his home, they noticed a his two very proud flags were destroyed. They handed off the pet food and trays of hot food that Cambridge Catering has provided, but they didn’t stop there. They then went to the hardware store and purchased everything to fix and replace his flags. Guardians of Rescue and Paws of War can both use your support so they can continue to help others. Guardians of Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Their mission is to facilitate and foster programs and activities that further the unique benefits of interaction between people and animals. We are all aware of the toll that this pandemic is having on people, yet the impacts are being felt beyond humans. Animals are also being impacted in numerous ways by this situation. Guardians of Rescue has been dealing with the Covid Crisis in many different ways, such as helping people feed their pets and taking on the responsibility to care for homeless animals. They have even stepped out of their realm of helping animals to assist seniors during these trying times. They are overwhelmed by the amount of assistance needed and their phones are ringing non-stop. So many people have had their employment impacted by the virus, therefore donations have been down. This makes it difficult for them to continue feeding the animals, building doghouses, taking in new rescues and trying to cover all their expenses. “The pandemic has created a host of problem for the animals,” says Robert Misseri, President of this organization. “I hope that we can make it through this difficult time, so that we can continue to help the animals in need.” Robert is also the President of Paws of War, another non-profit right here on Long Island. This organization trains and places shelter dogs to serve and provide independence to our U.S. military veterans that suffer from the emotional effects of war. In turn, each veteran can experience the therapeutic and unconditional love only a companion animal can bring. Throughout this pandemic, they have been tending to the most at risk veterans. They find that their older senior veterans typically are very prideful and refuse to ask for any handouts. Many live alone and will still go out and put themselves at risk

Antonio Bastos is a Long Island resident that served 12 years in the Marine Corps. He had always loved the uniform and had a strong love for our country. After his active duty service he then stayed in the Reserves, as well as being a Civilian Contractor. He currently resides in Mineola and works at Window World of LI in Farmingdale as a Sales Manager. His photo is promoted on a street sign in the Village of Lindenhurst amongst many others as part of their Hometown Heroes promotion, which honors local residents who served our nation. To some parents it is worse than the discussion about the “birds and the bees” they had with their children 40 years ago. An open discussion with our children about your wishes after you pass away is a tremendous benefit to you and your children. A family discussion will avert the tragic situation that happened when Ted Williams died several months ago. My philosophy has always been, the funeral is more for the survivors than for the deceased. I recently spoke with a woman who did not want her children to be bothered when she died. She wanted to pay for a direct cremation without any services or viewing and she did not want to discuss it with her children. She wanted to make sure that she would be cremated before her children could get here from out of state. I suggested she first discuss this matter with her children. She said it was only her decision. I then asked her what she would do if, heaven forbid, one of her children died and they were cremated before she could say goodbye. She simply said she would never talk to her daughters or son-in-laws again. She then looked at me picked up the papers put them in her pocketbook and said I will be back after I discuss this matter with all my children. Some people do not ever wish to see the person after they die. They want to remember the person alive. Some people need the opportunity for closure and need to view their loved one before interment or cremation. Whatever your wishes are, I simply ask you discuss the matter with those who will suffer most after you are gone. Remember the funeral is more for them than it is for you. National Grid Warns Customers Of Latest Payment Phone Scam Imposters call customers, demand immediate payment, threaten to shut off service National Grid is warning customers to beware of a new phone scam where imposters are demanding immediate bill payment and threatening service disconnection. This latest scam, which is targeting customers already facing hardships due to COVID-19, involves callers who pretend to be National Grid representatives. They tell customers that unless payment is made within 30 minutes, their power will be shut off. The customer is then directed

to call “the direct billing department to make a payment and avoid power disconnection.” The scammers use sophisticated phone systems that display National Grid on the customer’s caller ID. Additionally, the phone number customers are instructed to call closely resembles the company’s recorded messaging and phone prompt directions. These elements make it difficult to differentiate an actual National Grid call from an imposter’s
